WindowsXP Installer Package error!!!

Ok I'm working on a clients computer for my dad's pc repair business and I have run into a snag.

Has anyone had this error come up while installing third party software:

There is a problem with this windows installation package,
a program that was executed as a part of the package did no
complete as expected. Contact your support personnel or
package vendor. Error Code 1722
I already tried contacting the third party software's company and they said it was a windows error, so I called Microsoft and they told me they could fix it..... for $54.00!

Anyone run into this problem?
If so or if not so could ya help a guy out?

Is the software legal? If not that might be your problem. Also, how is it being installed: via CD or download? If it's by CD, check the CD and see if it's in good condition. If it is, you might want to buy a new CD. If not, buy a new CD, or copy it to another CD. If it's via download, the program is probably corrupt. Try downloading it from another source.

EDIT: Oh, a Windows problem. There's not much you can do, I'm afraid. The only thing you can do is play the $54 and get it fixed.

When I first read it, I read it as an error with Windows XP.

Since its legal, install it on another machine to see if it works elsewhere, if it installs elsewhere its clearly exclusive to that machine. Try running some malware/cleanup programs to be sure all is well with the machine itself.

already tried it, its clean. The is no malware or viruses to be found.

ok turns out I don't need the help. I opted to back up and redo the whole thing which worked! XD
I am, however, going to keep this thread open so if someone knows a fix they can post it.
(or it can rot in the forums, which ever comes first)
