I was browsing Jayisgames.com and they had a link to a game called Bonesaw. It's really fun.

It reminds me of the Kirby games (not sure, maybe it's the enemies and color choice) and megaman games (to a lesser extent).

Anyway I'm having a lot of fun playing it. Here's the link: http://kyle.nfshost.com/view.php?id=12

Also this game has got me thinkin' I wanna make a platformer. Play the game and if anyone feels inspired to make a platformer PM me or post here.

Here is the trailer for the game:

So what! I wanna get out! 'Cos there's so much out there! So many different people, living different lives! Incredibly good guys, bad guys... Folks completely different from us! It's one huge melting pot! See, it's not about success, dying in the streets, who's better, who's not! I just want to be a part of it! I realized that even if I've no connections, no talent, even if I'm one big loser, I want to use my hands and feet to think and move, to shape my own life! We can just die here or we can try, see what we've got!

Pretty fun so far.  The music is freaking amazing!  I like the beat-um-up aspect, though it can be frustrating when you do a combo resulting in both you and the enemy against the wall, (when you have to step back to do any damage), if that makes any sense...

Yeah that can get annoying, but you get used to it, but the the enemies get much stronger and you basically always get hit once per enemy (unless you avoid them or use the (spoiler) holy boomerang hockey stick.

Can't believe anyone noticed (except RP)... this is a rip-off of Kirby.

It does look awesome though.

Calling it an outright rip-off is far too harsh. It does share some basic similarities on the surface, but it plays very differently.

I'm in the area after the lava area, I still can't beat either of the two bonus levels I've unlocked.

I don't see how this is a rip-off of Kirby in any way, it's pretty fun too.

Considering the graphics and HUD are from Kirby... It almost looks like a rom heck of Kirby's Dreamland 3 from that vid.

While it has certain similarities to Kirby, it is not even the same thing. This is one of the many reasons I am in love with Indie games.

Considering the graphics and HUD are from Kirby... It almost looks like a rom heck of Kirby's Dreamland 3 from that vid.

the hud shares similarities with a number of game. Many fighting games of the nes and snes eras had huds like that. The graphics are not copies of kirby graphics, while there are similarities, the styles are ultimately different.

Also play the game, it plays very differently that kirby's dreamland 3.

It certainly is inspired by the kirby games, but stop saying that it is the same, if you actually go and compare the graphics they are strikingly different.

What does everyone think about the difficulty of the game? I find that most parts are very easy (still really fun) and then there are parts that come out of the blue that are crazy hard (anything to do with switches and speed) until you get it down and then they are easy.

I feel like the bonus levels (I think the upgrade you a little if you beat them) are Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay harder than the normal levels. I can't beat the first part of the first bonus level and I only beat a four parts of the second.

Anyway how is everyone else finding it?

Yeah, if you checked the blog or website for this game, you'd know it is inspired from kirby.
Seriously, that is fine for an indie game to grab inspiration from a franchise, especially when it's just a few aspects like the bomb blocks etc.
Especially since it's such a good game too

yeah I'd say it is fairly polished and feels very professional, but there are points that seem less polished.

For instance: most of the button timing on later levels is too short, buttons are not incredibly fun to practice over and over till they are easy.

I must say the bosses are very hard without the BONESAW, but with it they are too easy. It would have been nice to level that out just a little.

but bonesaw is an absolutely amazing first release.

Ah, sorry I didn't really mean it to be harsh.

I haven't played it, I'm just meaning to say it's really similar, from the video at least.

The powers.
The HUD (Kind of)
Some of the tiles look familiar (like the explosion block thing)
The way the block explodes and stuff.
Etc.

Oh well, it's all good, I love Kirby, so this should be awesome!

I'm not really too found of the sprites, but the gameplay looks really good ;O. The name was kind of ingenious, too.. haha.
