Buy a book, use internet tutorials and look at other people's code.

I want a book I actually have a C# book. But would I need a Book that centers around Visual C++ or just any recent book?

It depends on if your using .NET or native C++, if your using .NET then I would suggest you read specifically around that as it has quite a few changes from native C++. Otherwise most books should work fine.

Yes.

If you want, I have a book in CHM (Compiled HTML Help file) format that you can have. (focuses on text-based games in C++)

There's such a double standard about religion in the modern world. Catholics can gather, wear white robes, and say "In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti" and be considered normal.

But if my friends and I gather, wear black robes, and say  "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn", we're considered cultists.

Yes.
Thats not always true MiN, there are occassions when C# does have an edge over C++, so its not neccessaraly a better choice, it depends what Torak wants to use it for. Though I agree for general development C++ would be the most appropriate choice.

You'd want to use/learn C++ over C# simply because it's used throughout the industry and is considered a standard staple in game development. You'll find that much more tutorials and books, as well as have a greater chance of finding libraries and code examples.

Yes but one of the things i found (thats rather quite annoying) is that because im using Visual C++ I have to find tutorials a bit more tailored to the program.

Sorry for OT, but am I the only one who is fine with using notepad?

A good way to learn is through gamemaker. It has a language similar to c++.
If you want to have NDS related fun, look up PAlib.

<_<;; Have you ever used C++...? Out of curiosity...

Personally I'd suggest transitioning to C# and then try to go on to C++

Ditto.

Apart from the brace style and some syntax sugar, its a totally different language.

..No >_>  Sure, you'll learn about loops and if statements, but those are global to pretty much all languages.

Thats good. That means you have a globale idea of C. Now grab a book, and read it carefully.

Infini Edit: Theres no e in global. :P

When you start to feel comfortable in C++ and you want to start making the bigger/better stuff, do what I didn't for a long time... learn to use libraries. Don't reinvent the wheel and don't assume that the project you're working on can't be broken down into smaller parts; those libraries can radically reduce how much code you have to write. That way you can skip redundant things and concentrate on content.

It's so tempting to try to start with a blank slate and think that you can pull it all off, it's much more practical(hell, you'll finish more projects) if you take the time to work with OpenGL/Direct X, Raknet(some network library), or STL.

Get comfortable with the concepts(not code, concepts) behind OOP, it's why you'd want to use C++ over C in the first place.
