I don't know why you'd want to, but yeah, it's odd how Nintendo never includes useful little functions like disabling features. It's a habit they need to get out of >_>.

I don't really see the problem?... Almost no games use the mic for talking. Plus that it will only be allowed to someone in your friendlist. So if you do not want to talk, then just don't talk?...

Right, but I don't want background noise blaring into the mic when I'm playing a game, like the TV or music or something, and no I'm not turning it off.

Tape over the microphone? Usually seems to work for me at least.

Exactly. I mean I don't want to have to turn off all my background noise and cover the hole and such just for the mic not to work, and yet it's still enabled.

The only game I've ever seen that uses the mic for talking is Metroid, and even then you have to hold down a button to get it to turn on.

Yeah, so it's completely unnecessary to mute the microphone...
