I'll be seeing the movie this Friday, but I won't be going with some high expectations. The special effects and CG might be good, but I know the story will be bad, because the sixth book is actually bad. But hey, maybe they know how to get rid of the bad stuff in a nice an coherent manner.

Ok, just went and saw it. !@#$% hell it was awful. I don't even know where to begin, long, boring, cheesy, pointless scenes added, crucial scenes cut. Eh, don't waste your money.

I went to go see the midnight show last night. It was a really good movie, but it wasn't true to the book. They added Ginny in a lot of scenes so they could stress her and Harry's relationship and created a completely new scene that wasn't in the book that took place of one of my favorite ones.

They also left out probably one of the most endearing side stories. When Harry returns to the Burrow for Christmas break, he's supposed to meet the Minister of Magic and ultimately defend Dumbledore during their conversation. He assures the minister that he's "Dumbledore's man through and through." Later on in the book, Harry tells Dumbledore what had happen and he begins to cry while thanking him. It was probably one of my favorite parts and made something else up instead. :/ I won't say what. I think that little conversation, though, made Dumbledore's death all that much sadder and showed the true relationship between him and Harry.. so it was a shame to see they chose to exclude it from the film.

Otherwise, it was really nicely done. This film didn't really capture the darkness of the book like the previous movie had and in turn, chose to make it lighter with more humor and a strong focus on relationships. This movie is also the most stylized out of any of them we've seen so far. Other than cutting scenes a little shorter than they should have been, it's a really nice rendition.

Overall, it was really enjoyable if you weren't hoping for a live action adaptation of the book.

It was the best harry potter movie to date, but most of them haven't been that good, so it isn't saying much.

They changed bits here and there, took parts out, as they always do, but the pacing was much better in this movie than the others.

Dumbledore's death scene was kinda shitty.

I went to the midnight showing and felt that I was thoroughly ripped off. In the same fashion as Order of the Phoenix, they skipped half the book in the first ten minutes, and spent so much time on burgeoning relationships between the characters that there really wasn't enough room for the important stuff. And did anyone else find Dumbledore's death and Snape's big reveal as the Half Blood Prince to be a little, you know, anticlimactic? I mean, !@#$%, those were important as all hell. It should have been better.

The effects were top notch, though, and I do love me some special effects. Still, I stand by what I said after Prisoner of Azkaban came out: all of the magic disappeared after the second film.

To me the fifth film was the pinnacle of the series. Whereas many of the other films captured the events of the book but not the spirit, the fifth succeeded on its own as a movie, independent of the novel, by capturing a somber, brooding, and melancholy atmosphere that was present in the book. It was beautiful and very well-acted, I loved it.

I saw Bruno last night instead (tickets were sold out here for the midnight showings), though I'm not sure how excited I am about this one. The sixth novel was a crushing disappointment for me, as I felt the Harry-Ginny relationship was contrived and Rowling's prose worsened in quality with it. However, the book's ending did make up for many of those missteps, and it may be interesting to see on film.

Personally loved the movie, and was not at all disappointed. The first portion of the book was basically fudge resigning, which the 5th movie portrayed near the end, so skipping it was no big deal imo. Dumbledore's death scene was very anti-climactic though, I have to say, but of course I saw it coming from 3 years away ;)

Dantz, how did you like Bruno!?

It's HILARIOUS, but also extremely disgusting, to the point where even I was grossed out a bit at some points. Also, the genuine satirical edge that Borat had is a bit less in this one, it seems Cohen was just going for pure laughs instead of laughs with thought behind them.
