Title: Link to the Past DX? I dunno

Reworking lttp into a more up to date style, and something a bit more snazzy. I'm getting there I think. Inspired from Icegoom's SMW redrawn sprites. C+C.

No way in hell I'm doing this all on my own. I'm definately going to recruit people to lend a hand in this. As soon as I make a tutorial for this, that is. I wanted this to have a cartoony and fantasy look to it anyway. :P

Looks nice, what are you planning on making it in?

Wow nice recolor and good to have you back on ZFGC!

Nice, major congatulations on the really good sideview which is pretty easy to screw up. My only real complaint is his hair obscuring the eyes.

Haha, the middle one reminds me of Mario with them blue and red clothes.

These are fully custom. Made completely from scratch. No edits or recolors.

And to answer your questions, resprite everything in LTTP in a new up to date style.

Amazing sprites, I'd love to see how ALttp would look in a similiar style. My only gripe though: Blue Tunic Link looks like he stole Mario's outfit except for that hat XD Good luck with the rest of the project though.

i think it should be darker.
mostly people use lttp sprites because the others are 2 happy

Looks great, but I agree with CA I think you should recolor the arms on the blue and red Link.

Also your just editing a ROM right?  Or else this will never get done.

No. This is all a sprite project to recreate sprites from Lttp in a better up to date look. ROM heck? Maybe. Not sure at this point. I'm enjoying this though. :D

i think the rom heck might have a prob , because some of the sprites like link will be a bit diffrent and in alttp rom i think link split in like 3 pieces.

Heh, you should make it in 3 styles of hair, blonde, dirty blonde/brown, and the LTTP pinkish color. <_<

Pretty damn sweet. An ALttP game with graphics like these would rock all manners of awesome. Just try and make sense of that.

These are the most insane custom Link sprites. Ever. My one gripe is the North-facing view's hat looks a little weird. Stretched tallwise almost.

Post by: Downsider on June 29, 2007, 11:17:19 pm
Nah, whats wrong with the north is that it looks like his hat is drooping- Like its sad
 :'(

Make it a little centered more?
 ;)

By the way, those are the most insane custom Link sprites.  Ever.

I think this would do best in 2.5D with all kinds of lighting effects.

Erm... what the hell are you talking about? there doesn't exist something that's called "2.5D" you've only 2D or 3D nothing between them.
Title: Re: Link to the Past DX? I dunno
Post by: Kame on June 30, 2007, 01:41:10 am
No, there are multiple types of perspective known as 2.5D, Mode 7 for example, or isometric games, or 3D games with two-dimensional gameplay, like sidescrollers.

Ys6 was 2.5D. When something is 2.5D(As kame already is explained), it uses 3D models, but looks 2D. Hence the name 2.5D.

then it's 3D, well, if there can be 2.5D, then it can also be 2.1, 2.2, etc.
I find Ys6 as a 3D game.

Post by: Kame on June 30, 2007, 02:52:27 am
Well, yes, none of the things I listed are actually 2.5D, since, graphically, it doesn't exist. However, they are examples of various display modes referred to as 2.5D

It's not literally 2.5 dimensions -_-

But yes, a 3d game with sprites like this would look pretty sweet.

Exactly. 2.5D is more of a term for it. Its cooler than saying "3D That looks like it was 2D" when you could just say "2 and a half D" or just "2 point 5 D". Plus its easier to type. Well, when your typing "2.5D" that is.
Title: Re: Link to the Past DX? I dunno
Post by: Kame on June 30, 2007, 09:19:52 pm
Or "2D that looks like it was 3D", in the case of isometric projections or Mode 7
Title: Re: Link to the Past DX? I dunno
Post by: Kren on June 30, 2007, 09:41:17 pm
Isometric is just another way of spriting stuff It's 2d..
Title: Re: Link to the Past DX? I dunno
Post by: Kame on June 30, 2007, 11:56:02 pm
Yeh, but it's a way of imitating 3D, in fact, the early isometric games were billed as 3D, so it's another display mode that can be described as being halfway between traditional 2D and traditional 3D, so 2.5D

Ugh. Can you guys please take your argument elsewhere? It's annoying to go through all this to see the updates.

Anyway...

East/west running done. Sorry for the slow update.

That must animate REALLY nicely. Seriously, you could totally use Dlbrook's Lttp engine and make Lttp: Not ugly looking anymore infact, it looks very nice now.

It's looking awesome just as I said before! You really improved the LTTP link sprite, now just improve the animation like you did to the sprite :)

For the running up sprites, I think you should move his arms a little more, and his hat needs to flop around more too.
Other than that, I am loving them :)

I really don't like the hair on the front-facing link.. It looks very fake, and there's something else about it I can't put my finger on.
Title: Re: Link to the Past DX? I dunno
Post by: Faldomar on July 05, 2007, 03:36:18 am
I always didnt like the fact that link's arm was always in shield position, even without a shield in ALTTP. >_>

I agree with Lunar, too, his hair seems too round :\

AH, I figured out why I can't stand the hair.. It blends in with the gold on the hat.
