Community Announcements (CA2)

-- The Character Contest 2008 is underway. The contest is currently still in the light division, first round with Ntharcan being the first winner so far. The Fartriloquist versus Clarisse match is still underway.

-- The forum has had a layout overhaul. Community boards such as Other Discussion, Debates, Forum Games, and Advertising are now gone. The WIP board has been split into Zelda/Other distinctions, the Discussion boards have been merged, etc.

-- If you have a team or community project that you want to launch, you will now be able to have it have its own board! Specifications for having such a project may be stated at a later date.

-- "Discuss" topics and unexplained negative opinions are no longer allowed as such things are considered trolling. If either is posted, the user posting will receive a temporary ban.

I'm going through some documents and working up a proposal for what I want to do with the future of this section. Please stand by for more news, and use this topic to discuss any ideas, thoughts, and opinions.

Frequently Asked, or Good Questions
-) So this ZFGC uni is for Zelda fan game creation related stuff only?
No, it is not. Although Zelda games are going to be the primary theme of this idea, should it come to fruition, I believe that we are first and foremost a development community, with a focus on Zelda. Therefore, instructors who wish to teach things that are not directly Zelda-related are welcomed, if, in the worst case, only for the fact that it can possibly be applied to Zelda in some way.

OH HELLO HAVE YOU BEEN MISSING ME

YOU BEST HAVE

On to the topic. Is any of you guys actually feeling happy and christmas-ish? I know I don't. It's been less and less every year but suddenly, I totally feel no cheerful spirit at all.

Somewhat good, too. If you don't have your hopes up, they can't fall much.

Also I'm leaving ZFGC.

Hey I'm back now, ZFGC. Missed me?

Bah Humbug.

God dam charities.

Was having a nice shower, door bell rings, jump out and put boxers on. Turns out it was a bunch of dam elve's / santa's collecting for charity. I thought my amazon parcels had finally arrived u_u. Least half nakedness gets rid of charity people fast XD.

Anyone got any intresting memories of charity people turning up at your door?

Also, bbl, goner go find and punch one of the elves now.

Tutorial of the Week
Minalien's HUD Component Tutorial

Quote from: Minalien
Target
This tutorial targets those working on a two-dimensional game, though three-dimensional games rendering their heads-up display as two-dimensional sprites will work fine with this tutorial. It assumes basic knowledge of C# and XNA.

Covers
Heart-on, Heart-off health system. This system uses a health system that goes with a heart-per-hit-point approach.
Mana Bar magic system. This system creates a "magic bar" of specified dimensions to show a player's remaining percentage of magic.
Wallet system. This has a wallet system that uses an image for a wallet and a sprite font to display the number of coins in the player's wallet.
Buttons system. This shows action buttons, with associated action, weapon, or item.

Some might recognize this. I know it's a bit messy sounding at the moment, but C+C please :)!

Big Question (BQ2)

Last week's question: If they were real and you were really hungry, could/would you eat an Octorok?
Summary of answers: Vegans wouldn't, but others would lightly depending on the type or if there was a useful item inside. Who knows what surprises an Octorok can hide?  Yummy Hyrule chocolate with candy treats inside.

This week's question: Over holiday breaks, are you more inclined to make or to play a Zelda game?

I was kind of sad no one has commented on my Santa edit for the icon, I thought it was nifty. The length of this Weekly as compared with other recent ones is substantially longer.
