Graphics / Link Attempt
« on: May 13, 2009, 11:19:01 pm »

I need your thoughts and criticism before I continue on with this.
I'll be sure to share the project with you guys as I go on.

This is my first time really trying to make link/anything zelda related.

I'm actually semi-interested in learning how to do the HD graphics shown in Skulltula Amulet. I'm far from good programming though; I'd really like to do HD graphics in C# or C++ so they can get the programming they deserve.
The graphics look like they were done in flash, or a program much like that.

Bottom Line: Fangames aren't going to have high res graphics <_< Nobody here cares to put that much effort into it. The ones that do are making their own IPs :p
I know a french guy who disagree with you... XD

Anyway clearness, if you care so much, why don't you do something about it...
You know, I'd like to practice programming more so I can do solo projects.  Or find a programmer who'll give out what I give them.

@Jeod XD, I'm hard to please!

I didn't say that.  You pretty much said that we're making games lazily.  So I asked you, have you ever tried programming.  Because I will tell you right now, it is by no means a lazy task.
In the context of this topic, it was directed toward graphics design.  I've already stated I'm not very good at programming, I don't see why its necesary to continue on in that subject.
Original graphics aren't hard to make.

Pretty fun action game with RPG elements, I'm pretty much addicted to it.

Hah...lazily as possible.  That's really funny, have you ever even tried to program?

Also, the last time this forum tried to make an original graphics set, it failed.  See the ZFGC Style thread in the graphics section.
How does programming relate more to the graphics than making the graphics themselves?  Most artists are lazy, I myself, an artist, am lazy.

Hmm... The controls aren't bad at all, I think. There might be a few teeny tiny things that could have better, at times (nothing I can think of off the top of my head right now), but nothing terrible.

I just beat Shadow of the Colossus. Try that out for horrible control/camera experience. Woo.
Oh God, bad memories right there, I couldn't even beat the first boss.  Like once I figured out how to move around on him, I fell off.

I see, but I find making a game as lazily as possible a waste of anyones time.
I've seen some fan games with bigger graphics, its not all that hard.
And even without big graphics, how about some ORIGINAL GFX.

I still have yet to play it, I've never really liked the 3D zelda games, the controls tend to get annoying to me.  But the storylines seemed top notch.
Maybe I'm playing it wrong!

For most programmers placeholders don't cut it, they need visuals to keep them occupied.
Unless the said programmer is a robot and doesn't care about that.

And how would a fan game make money, thats illegal.

Bigger is big enough for me to see, look at how big your screen is, then figure how big the character could be.
and i cant program...i can only make gfx

Most of all fangames that turn up for any genre tend to use the keyboard and super tiny graphics.  I would never buy a comercial game that has a super tiny screen or  some terribly distorted sprites/models.  The keyboard is nice and all, but it just doesn't feel like a controller, and not all fangames have joypad-functional gameplay.  So what do I propose?  Well not all people have a gamepad so why not use just the mouse or even a tablet if the person has one.  Grahpics should also be a lot bigger on a computer screen, theres plenty of room.

It'd be nice to see a zelda game mimic the zelda PH gameplay style with the mouse.  I'm not very creative with storyline ideas and such so I don't bother with that.

I'm sure im pretty late on this idea, but I'd like to see some bigger graphics guys.

Whatever will work for you works for your fanbase in most cases, but I'd imagine it'd take quite a skilled artist to make original and good looking graphics to 1up MC's style.

It froze for me also, so I don't know how the gameplay is, but it looks great.

Legend of Princess feels more like noitu love than zelda, but it's really exciting.
Since there are so many indie games, I'd take it that this list is based on only what you've played.  Can we add to the list?
