Feedback / Re: Revamping ZFGC
« on: March 20, 2011, 09:07:08 pm »
Quote
Hate to say it, ZFGC is a one-trick-pony. We've all witnessed the community grow around a singular project twice over. Once with OoT2d (abandonware) and then again with Shadowgazer (abandonware). The in-betweens have never been good. The forum only works when there's a big project for people to gawk at.

As bad as it may sound; fangaming is more of an introductory/hobby thing... Most people who started developing here have moved on to their own IP's. It's a lot more satisfying to make something that's truly your own. It's because of this that I agree with Porkchop on just removing "Zelda" from the equation. Frankly, Zelda has kinda sucked for the past 10 years anyway.

In my completely honest opinion, ZFGC should be done. It's the community that people pine for in these threads, not the subject of the community. We're limiting ourselves by being "Zelda Fan Game Central", and the community just doesn't exist anymore. Make something new. Make something different. Whatever community is still here will obviously be there too, so what's the difference. Right now it's just silly how this forum lingers and lingers when it could just die and have something better come out of it's remains.

I agree with this, a lot.

All of the active users who actually brought something to the community for the most part have got bored with Zelda and moved on. In my opinion, what made the forums great were people actually working on projects, and people actually taking the time to play other people's games and give feedback. Rather than just lurking once in awhile and occasionally posting about how the site is dead now.

Drop the "zelda", go with something else. Something more broad and less restrictive. Make zfgc.com point to the new domain, that way any of the few active members will migrate and anyone coming back from years of absence will know what's up and still be in touch with the community.

This is a serious issue for the community in my opinion, and based on discussion featured here I think it should be brought into a voting phase. No more discussing it for days on end with no end result. Start a poll, see the results, take appropriate actions. Stop being afraid of change, especially when it's for the better. ZFGC's community deserves more.

Couldn't help but notice the texture overlap flickers at parts... Don't really see the overall point to this whole thing, though, either.

Glad you're still going at it. The wrath of this sexy game needs to be released upon the world!

Hmm, not sure why but when I open the game it seems to randomly not have sound 50% of the time.
(I have to exit the game and then re-opening it'll either have sound or none at all again)
Basic PC Info if that helps: Win7 64bit, 6GB RAM

Right off the bat I messed up the controls cuz I'm an idiot... lol Maybe have a button to reset controls to default?

Again I'm probably just being an idiot, but I can't seem to start a game...
Scratch that, found the key... That thing just looked like a mailbox to me. lol Playing now I'll write more when I'm done.

At first I tried standing by the doors and hitting random keys. All I did was restart the game when I "R". lol You should make it so it at least requires "alt+R" to restart, othterwise people could hit the R key itself fairly easily and restart the game. That would suck.

EDIT: Back from playing some more, it's pretty fun and overall well done.
I think you should stick with the 16bit, so the graphics don't seem so blurred and smudged. Looks like low quality .jpg files atm.

Also, did you record the level complete sound directly from a gameboy speaker? haha That's what it sounds like. :P

The intro is nice, why not use that same textbox engine for hint blocks and such?

Love the overworld also. :D But I think the ingame levels should reflect the overworld more. Like when the stage is shown on the beach sand on the overworld, the ingame stage should actually be set on a beach or at least sand.

So got to this level and ended up stumped... How do I even pick this key up in the first place if I can't stand ontop of it? :/

Oh, guess you have to jump and duck just right. Seems more like glitching the engine mixed with luck is needed to achieve it though, rather than skill.

lol Now that you mention that, could have also had one fall into a Tree's mouth from the Living Forest. :P
Oh well, it's more of a comedy edit than a MK fan pleaser I guess.

I dunno, it's obviously low-budge, not funny 100% of the time, but I still think the formula just has that factor that makes it enjoyable(For me at least). And this video is a huge improvement over the last, so I'll say it again, good job. It's like Mega64, but different enough to be it's own thing.

And I've never played Oregon Trail btw, just heard of it.

lol Good job, even more well done than the last one.

Looking for a spriter for an Action RPG that's top-down view.

Will pay $100 to hired team member.
To showcase your skills, we'd like to see both some of your previous work and a basic sprite drawn by a description. (see below)

Email your resumes and work to: ********@gmail.com

Sprite description:
- Around 25 pixels wide, 40 pixels high. (do what's needed to look good based on those numbers)
- Top-down view, similar to the Zelda series or Pokemon where you can see the tops and sides of people/objects.
- Character is a Caucasian prince, long light dirty blonde hair, wearing light under-armor with shoulder pads.
- Facing south
- The rest is up to you and your style.

I watched the first two. Waaay too slow and drawn-out for my taste. That whole thing could have be done in a minute max. What's with all the pauses and slow animations?

« on: December 27, 2009, 12:33:11 am »
I posted some pics of this project awhile ago back in the "Post pics of your current project" thread, and decided I might as well make a topic and vid about it now. Though it's still nameless. :P

I'm not going to say much about it yet other than it's a "pseudo-3D" top-down zombie survival horror title that takes place in a local mall in a small town.
(the mall is actually being rendered/modeled after a local mall near me)

I've pretty much been working on this whenever I've had the spare time and interest lately.

I just need a quick Java program made for a cell phone that'll basically be nothing but a code input screen with a timer that causes a cell phone vibration when it's counted down to 0.

If you'd like to help, let me know. I'm making a mockup in Game Maker so you can see what I mean easier.

What's a good .php uploading script that allows all filetypes and sizes?

I just need something quick and basic, all I can find are things with like a billion options that are flash-based and blah blah blah. lol
