I have noticed a lot of things I like are described as having a "cult following" but I admit I try and keep an eye on the indie scene and stumble across old games etc. quite a bit ^^

For example, Princess Maker 2 is an old DOS game I stumbled across. It's by Gainax (they made Neon Genesis Evangelion) and it shows, but that makes it even more awesome ^^

Not sure about "cult" following, but I only know two other people (IRL) that have even heard of the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series. Something gains a "cult following" when it doesn't generally perform well in main stream media, but holds a reputation as being something that has gained an underground audience. The idea is that the people who like said cult hit "found it first" and everyone else are posers >;o
