Sadly, we won't get finished until NCFC 2013 in November. I don't think that we will participate this year.
I just can assure you that I would abandon this game. And the reasons for the slow progress have already been written.

Good games need time.

I think you wanted to say that you won't abandon the game. ;)

Are you guys retaining any of the old map concepts from the Zelda Classic version of EoA?

Yeah, kind of. More like the general ideas, though. Little of the actual layout.

Thank you for the overwhelming support, everybody. I am really glad you like our game!

So I suppose most of you would like to try out the game yourselves. We are doing our best to get a demo out as soon as possible, but I am afraid I can not give you a definate date.
I can, however, tell you what the demo would most likely contain! 'Chapter 1: The Sheltering Forest' covers most of the Whispering Woods island which includes the Tidal Forest, the Forgotten Grove and the Skyforst Shrine (first dungeon) among other places. I am not sure whether the 'Prologue: Nightfall' will be featured in the first release of EoA, though. I guess that depends on how soon we want to get the demo out.

On that note, I might as well explain how the plot in EoA progresses. As you can probably tell from the above, we have organized EoA in 'chapters', pretty much. Naturally, you can revisit all the areas of previous chapters at any time. A chapter usually ends with Link learning another part of the Echoes of Aurelia (the song that is played at the very end of the trailer, btw!) and learning his next objective. EoA consits of five chapters and the prologue. I suppose the conclusion will be presented in form of a short Credits cutscene at the end of the game.

The original plan for EoA was to release a new 'demo' of the game each time one chapter is finished. This would mean that you get to play the game while it's being developed more or less. I'm not sure whether that still is the plan, but it seemed like a solid concept to me back when I suggested it.

Edit: I might as well post some screenshots, I suppose. :) The first one shows a part of Reliaton, Aurelia's central village. Do you recongnize the house? It was drawn by some pixel artist (I don't have the name available right now, sorry!) who has kindly given us permission to use his graphics in EoA. The second screen shows Link just having arrived in the Quiet Mists.

Are you going to try NCFC '12 this time around?
Yes, we have been talking about that. ;)

The 'pond' actually is a hole in the ground with the sky beneath. It's easier to 'read' (visually) when the sky backdrop is animated (as in-game).

Another post that's actually lacking any new content: You should try out some of the music InvertedMean composed for this. I'll embed the Title Screen Theme (the forum does support this, right?) and you can click through some of the other songs on yourselves. Enjoy!

Edit: Check out the Credits Theme, too. You can hear an orchastrated version of the Echoes of Aurelia there.

Gonken is doing a wonderful job on the mapping indeed. :) I hope that I'll find some time to learn GM8 mapping and map some parts of the world myself, but we will see.

Meanwhile, I thought I might show you some of the concept art I drew for EoA. Here's two pieces centered around creatures known as "Dreamkeepers". The Dreamkeepers of Aurelia have the task of giving hope and new energy to the dreamers ( - "dreamer" is the Aurelian word for the Hylians).
(Edit: In the terms of Aurelian lore, the Windfish of Koholint would be considered a "Dreamkeeper". One of impressive power though, as he holds control over a whole dream realm on his own. Aurelian Dreamkeepers aren't as powerful on their own.)
Notice the paralells to the Link's Awakening theme of dreaming? They are intended. Aurelia is supposed to be one of many "possible" dreamworlds, much like Koholint. (I was pending whether to give away that Aurelia isn't "real" in the sense that Hyrule is considered real, but I suppose that's clear so early in the game that it's not spoiling the player too much. There's waiting real threaths in Aurelia, though!)

The concepts are in the spoiler tag below. They are kinda big, that's why.

Just wanted to say hello, everybody. On PZC I go under the nick "Yoshimi", over here I'm "Sheik".
I am one of two guys that invented the original Echoes of Aurelia back in 2009 when it was developed as a Zelda Classic fan game. It was discontinued after it nearly reached completetion and a while ago Gonken has brought the idea back to life. Now we are building the game with GameMaker.
What's my part on it? I am very busy with university (I am making my bachelor's degree in psychology at a German university), thus I'm not really working much on the game anymore. However, most of the concepts and the plot are based and build on ideas by me and I've made some of the custom graphics. The real credit belongs to Gonken, though, as he is the mastermind behind the project. Our coders and our music-head also do fantastic work of course.

It makes me happy to see the overhelming postive feedback we are getting! ZFGC has the reputation to be rather elitist and quick to critique the efforts of other's but my impression here is another one: you seem to be a pretty warm and welcoming community. I'm honored to talk about EoA with you guys. If you have any questions regarding the plot or background story of Aurelia (the world EoA takes place in) or any of the characters I'd be happy to answer if that doesn't mean too much of a spoiler.

Nothing worth an update in 2011 yet? I am still looking forward to the promised demo, take your time, though, of course. And yeah, good luck, again.

Just felt like giving some feedback and agreeing with everyone else that this looks pretty and promising. I'm looking forward to play the demo you guys are working on and sure hope that you'll keep working on the game after that.
Also, I wondered wether you'd just stick with the OoT-soundtrack and sfx's or make some that sound more "2D". I'm not sure which I'd prefer. While the original music would create a lot of the OoT-atmosphere by itself and add to the nostalgia-factor, remixes might be nice to listen to, too. I'm sure you'll sort something out.
Good luck, you are creating something remarkable here. Thumbs up.
