Power went out today (funny story actually, the power line outside my house EXPLODED.  THREE TIMES), so I went to see a movie with a friend.  I had only seen the above trailer, and thought it looked pretty good, but I was surprised, it was REALLY REALLY good.  It was !@#$% hilarious.  Go see it.

Anybody else seen it?

Entertainment / Anybody here watch True Blood?
« on: August 24, 2009, 05:23:12 am »
True blood is a great show-- some of the best writing on tv, period.  The acting (for the most part) is superb, and the pace of the show is fantastic.  The show also isn't afraid of change, and of keeping the plot moving.

Anyways, I ask now, because tonights episode was !@#$% amazing.  The show is really on a whole different level than it was in the first season.

Took me an hour or two-- I haven't made a model in months, so I'm kinda rusty.

Made it somewhat low-poly, then used a little meshsmooth on it.

OLDER

I plan on working on it a big more, then unwrapping + texturing.

Comments and Criticism would be great :)

Entertainment / A real !@#$% sci-fi movie: MOON.
« on: July 29, 2009, 06:06:17 am »
Moon.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIexG8179K8" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIexG8179K8</a>

Directed by Duncan Jones (the son of David Bowie himself), and made on an extremely small budget of $5 million, the movie takes place on the moon, and is pretty much a one-actor movie, starring Sam Rockwell with a brilliant performance, and Kevin Spacey's voice as his robot-helper, Gerty.

I can't really say much about the movie without (sort of) spoiling it...

Basically the premise is...
Show content
While nearing the end of his 3-year job on the moon, sam starts halucinating, then gets in an accident.  He wakes up to find another (totally different) version of himself, leading him to believe he's a clone.  It's !@#$% awesome.

I LOVED the movie-- one of the few films I've seen recently that wasn't predictable-- that wasn't exactly what I expected when I went into the theater.  The special effects are minimal (they use models then touch it up with cgi), the acting and writing is BRILLIANT, and the plot is totally engrossing. EDIT: The soundtrack is also fantastic.

<3 Moon; the perfect example of the type of film I'd love to make one day, and I'd highly suggest go seeing it.

Anybody else seen it?

Entertainment / Best Worst Movie -- Troll 2
« on: June 21, 2009, 04:31:39 am »
So I'm sure several of you guys have heard of Troll 2, the "worst movie ever made," known for it's awful acting, preposterous story, and overall HILARITY.  Filmed in Utah (in a fictional town called nilbog), by an italian director, It is a !@#$% awesome and horrible and great movie.

OH MY GAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWD!
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NMGsRmZTFQ" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NMGsRmZTFQ</a>

Well I just saw the documentary (got in for free yay friends w/ connections) called BEST WORST MOVIE

(I would recommend watching the trailer)
http://bestworstmovie.com/trailer/

It's a documentary made by the (grown up) child star of Troll 2, and it's mostly about the Dentist George Hardy, the GREATEST MAN EVER who played the father in the film, and how he toured the country and how the movie gained an enourmous cult following 17 years after it came out.

It's definitely a worthwile to see Troll 2-- EVERYBODY who can see it should, it's a truly entertaining movie.

The Documentary was great, and afterwards I MET GEORGE HARDY HIMSELF!

So yeah.  If you don't know what Troll 2 is, or don't care to find out, this would be absoloutely meaningless to you-- As a lover of troll 2, it was AMAZING to meet Hardy in person, and believe me, i was in love with the actor/character before, now i'm IN LOVE WITH THE MAN lol.

BY THE WAY, the documentary was FANTASTIC on the whole.  Go see it if it goes to theaters eventually

EDIT: George hardy in all his gloriness, doing his most famous scene

Entertainment / Beyond Good & Evil 2 (fake?) gameplay video
« on: May 09, 2009, 06:42:09 am »
http://kotaku.com/5246177/is-this-new-beyond-good--evil-2-footage

Wow, it looks like 3rd person Mirrors edge, but in a world more like that in BG&E-- there is a distinct lack of animals though (as in, intelligent, human-like ones).  Possibly animal-racism within the BG&E world? The developers talked about topics of fear mongering, etc.

Anyways, the animations are way too smooth and the camera movement is way too snappy and perfect-- there is no way this is gameplay (if it is, I am DAMN impressed.)  It definitely looks like it could be the rendering engine though.

Entertainment / Short or Long games?
« on: April 29, 2009, 10:22:53 pm »
Recently games tend to be shorter, about 2-12 hours to complete main storylines, which is considerably shorter than some of the games of the past few decades (like looooong jrpgs).

How do people feel about this?  I'm actually very pleased-- no game should require over 24 hours of my !@#$% time to complete, ever.  The shorter game-time makes games more comparable to the length of a movie (or miniseries/tv show for episodic gaming), and I think leads to a much better experience for regular people-- people who don't want to spend 6 hours in front of a tv for a week straight.

Portal is the best example of a short game that was !@#$% amazing. I wish more games were like portal (short and sweet).

Of course replayability is even more important with a shorter game-- it better have alternate modes, maybe multiplayer, etc. for the more gamers with more devoted time could play.

Opinions?

Entertainment / Who saw Watchmen yesterday?
« on: March 07, 2009, 05:05:33 pm »
I did-- heres what I thought:

- A lot of the acting and writing, especially dialog was awful
- It looked good visually, even though it was a cgi-fest :P
- Rorshach was pretty good-- he looked right with and without the mask.
- The ending was changed, yes.  It sucks, but it still has the same ramifications (sort of) so it doesn't really !@#$% up the movie.
- In fact, the movie is phenomenally faithful to the book.  they switch up the order of LOTS of scenes, take out my favorite characters (newspaper stand guy D:), but they still contain the whole plot relatively intact.  There is almost no character development though, and some of the editing isn't so great.
- The music?  there are some great parts when they play music of the era, which are perfect, but the score of the movie was really dissapointing overall.  From the first few trailers, I was expecting really stylized music that would sync really well with the film-- there was very little of that.  The part with the koyaanisqatsi music (Phillip glass), was *so* dissapointing, because in the middle of one song, they basically just cut out and changed to the other, right in the middle, and it sounded AWFUL.  HORRIBLE music transition.
- One of my favorite scenes, the one where the comedian is pacing and crying and spilling his guts in moloch's room under the flashing red and blue lights, is done SO badly in the movie.  Ugh.
- Fight scenes.  Lots of them.  With lots of slow-motion.  WHAT THE !@#$% IS THIS !@#$%.

Now, even though I have an endless list of criticisms for the movie, I still enjoyed it, and I'm glad I saw it.

of course it isn't as good as the book.  There's no comparison.  But through the bad acting (espcially the chick who plays jupiter/juspezyck), It still captured the STORY of the comic kind of well, and it was fun to watch.  But really, the atmosphere and character development was just not there.  That sucked. lol

Entertainment / Recommend some music :D
« on: January 23, 2009, 02:11:31 am »
Alright here it is:  I challenge you to find some awesome music that I'll like.  I like everything from rap/hip-hop to electronic to 'indie' to psychadelic music to post-rock.

There are very few kinds of music that I dont like:  I'm not a big fan of country, and there isn't a lot of metal that I like-- but I'm always open.  infact, please TRY to find metal that I might like lol.
NOTE: I also really don't like pop-screamo-rock whatever that genre is called lol, but don't give me any of this please :P

note2: I don't really care about meaning in the lyrics-- just about how the lyrics sound with the song IF there are lyrics.  I love music w/o lyrics.

Long songs are a plus.

WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR: something I haven't heard of before.  I'm looking for 'hidden gems' as of right now.

Edit:
I thought I might want to give a few examples of music that I really like or have been listening to a lot lately, for reference: (favorites bolded)

It's just 2.49 on Steam for a week, so there is no reason not to get it.

For those of you who don't know what it is: It's a Music/Rythm/Racing/Puzzle game, which uses your own music as the game tracks-- It's hard to explain, just go try it out.

I got it yesterday; fuckin' awesome game.

It's not SUPER-scary, but it's got quite a few jumpy moments, and literally every second of the game is tense, like something could happen at any moment; the atmosphere is amazing.

Graphics great
Gameplay great
Story has potential to be great so far

Note:  All but one of these were drawn in a *tiny* 3x5 sketchbook.

(Only one drawn on big paper-- it really shows, the quality is a lot better)

(not finished)

(My favorite-- foot cut off by paper)

As you can see-- I have a lot of trouble sticking to one style <_<

Also!  C+C please!  Seriously, do NOT hold back-- be critical (also a bit nice tho <_<;;)

Debates / McCain vs cakefarts now :)
« on: June 05, 2008, 12:08:46 am »
Now that Hillary is out, it is pretty much cakefarts vs. Mckane.

First of all, !@#$% YEAH cakefarts.

Second of all, McCain's speech recently was *horrible*
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aMDJP4VxY4" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aMDJP4VxY4</a>

But cakefarts's victory speech was !@#$% awesome.  It gave me chills it was so exciting:

That's right, IGN's review for GTAIV is out, and they make quite a bold statement.  10/10. Read it here.

!@#$% yes, this game is going to be !@#$% awesome.  And yes, this post WILL make some of you Nintendo/Zelda fans angry >:D

Entertainment / Metal Gear Online Beta! (play with me lol)
« on: April 25, 2008, 06:15:41 pm »
The MGO Beta *finally* got it's lazy ass started, and it is great-- I'm loving it so far.  Anybody here have it?  I know a few people here have PS3s: Me, Domo... er... Yeah, I guess not that many people here have PS3s <_<  Anyways, it's loads of fun, you guys should try it.  I would have assumed, based on how poorly the launch went, and how Konami's website servers sucked, that the game would have shitty servers, and would lag a lot, and it would be understandable; but it's the opposite, I haven't had *ANY* lag at all!  There are three "lobbies", and I have been playing in Liquid (with 300 something people) as opposed to Solid (with 1000 people), or Raiden.

Anyways, this topic is for discussion of this wonderful game, and for sharing of Game IDs n__N  (or is it Konami ID you need to add friends? Or just your characters name? Or any of them? Goddamnit :P)

Anyways, I think it's character name, but either way, just do Player Search, I'm a Hint of Lime.

I really hope that some more of you guys have this :)

Well I'm writing a paper on it, basically on the views and biases on both sides of the argument, so I thought I'd get a nice range of opinions here :P

So uh... Discuss.
