2016 UPDATE:

Hey guys, I know this topic is old, but I made some updates to the game so I figure it's worth a bump.

http://dayjo.org/uncannyvisions/hotd.html

That site has some background information and the new download link.

For anyone already familiar with the game, it was finished a long time ago... 2007 I think. Anyway, I was bored one day and decided to make some tweaks.

The game now plays in full screen, the "extra pearl" has been removed (now there are 100 to find as intended, instead of 101), certain areas have been simplified (less enemies mainly), and I've greatly reduced the number of hits the later bosses take.

The game still has glitches, but it's a much smoother experience than it was before. This is probably the last update... unless I think of something to fix another 8 years from now. :p

2020 NEWS UPDATE:

A cool Youtuber made a (mostly) complete walkthrough. Refer to this video if you get stuck.

ORIGINAL POST:

I was an active member here like, iunno, 4 or 5 years ago... haha. Let me start by saying how great it is to see that ZFGC is still thriving!

Anyway, I've moved away from fan game design and into filmmaking (http://uncanny-visions.com  .../shameless plug) , but the other day I was searching through my hard drive and I found my completed Zelda adventure, Hall of the Dead!

I know there's a topic around here somewhere, but I figure it's way old, so why not make a fresh one?

LOZ: HotD isn't a masterpiece of game design, but it is DONE. It has 5 dungeons and a fair sized overworld. It shouldn't take anyone too long to beat, as long as they can figure out my devious puzzles mwa haha. Some older members might remember where to go.  :P

Download link is here: (Let me know if it doesn't work)

Entertainment / Teaser for my movie
« on: June 17, 2008, 08:06:41 pm »
This is the teaser for a feature movie I filmed and am currently editing. Despite what you might think from watching this, it's actually a comedy and drama more than it is a horror, but it's always fun to mix up genres to keep things secretive.

I think there's another topic somewhere, but that was months ago, maybe even a year. Anyway, I decided to once again share my opus. I'll be filming a new movie pretty soon, but I'm still really proud of this and think that you guys will enjoy it if you just give it a watch.

A throwback to the old sci-fi monster movies of the 50's complete with every cliche in the book.

I appear as the scientist. Also, the film has cameo from a local director (Gavin Booth, YouTube him) in the opening scene and also the radio announcer is one of the founders of the B-Movie Message Board, so pretty cool stuff.

Please comment here and let me know what you think.

Entertainment / I am Legend
« on: December 15, 2007, 06:11:05 am »
Just got back from seeing I am Legend and I must say, it was a very frustrating experience. I have not read the original novel, but I love both previous adaptations and am a fan of end of the world-type films as well as zombie flicks.

Overall, I liked a lot in this remake. Will Smith was better than I expected and I really liked the dog mechanic. His daily routine was interesting and I really loved the CGI work used to make New York look abandoned. However, these same effects did not carry.

It kills me to say this, but the monsters, may they be zombies or vampires are simply terrible. Instead of hiring extras and taking the time to apply makeup, these creatures are 100% CGI and look goofy as hell. On top of it, nothing regarding their purpose is made clear. We don't know their motivations, how smart they are, how they are able to be so nimble, or what kind of society they have (one is the leader so clearly they have some structure). To top it off, in a lot of scenes, they end up more funny than scary, especially one involving infected dogs, dear lord.

I guess I'd give it a 6.5/10, but I was disappointed, not on the whole, but by the parts that tarnished the otherwise good movie.

Heya. Some may know that I did a YouTube series called the Nerds way back...and those that heard of it, probably know how sub par it was. Well, now my friend and I have returned with a new series, and hopefully this one catches on a bit better.

From the pilot, you'll immediately recognize how reliant the show will be on dialogue. In fact, every episode will pretty much be a different debate sparkled with absurd comments and pop culture references. Somewhat inspired by the works of Kevin Smith and the Mystery Science Theater 3000 gang.

Anyway, here's a link to the video (comments would be nice)

And here's the website in case you want to keep up to date. If there is enough interest, I will update this topic too.

Entertainment / The Wicker Man Remake
« on: November 30, 2007, 12:46:50 am »
I have yet to see the original, but I heard it was a masterpiece. However, I finally did get around to seeing the remake, and my God. I really cannot decide if this is the best movie ever or one of the worst. I mean, from "killing me won't bring back your God Damn honey!" to Nicholas Cage dressed as a bear punching women out, I literally could not stop laughing.

Then I couldn't resist watching key parts of the director's commentary afterwards, and it became even funnier. Nicholas Cage was the one that changed large parts of the movie, for example "step away from the bicycle" *holds out gun*

It's like he was on a mission to sabotage the whole thing.

So yeah, I've seen worse films than this, but not since Manos: The Hands of Fate has there been so much genius in incompetence. This is truly a must see...for all the wrong reasons.

Okay this has made my week.

Basically, I'm a huge fan of Godzilla. I've seen almost all of the 28 movies and was kinda sad that "Final Wars" put the series on hiatus. But now, 3 years later we finally see something...not quite a real movie, but it's a glimpse of stuff to come.

Basically, a sequel to some kind of drama or something is being released, but early in the film there is a dream sequence featuring a beautiful CGI Godzilla. I'm not talking the American crap one either, this is the real deal, and as much as I hate CGI, this is done right and looks bloody amazing.

http://www.scifijapan.com/articles/2007/11/12/always-sunset-on-third-street-2/

Anybody who has ever liked the real Godzilla will probably be blown away by how brilliant this looks. Now if only they'd make a whole movie using the same style and technique.

Still preparing the next project, but in the meantime, I figured it'd be fun to repost all the old videos I've made. Per usual, I'd love to hear what you guys think.

Oh, and the videos are listed from oldest to newest. I feel the newer stuff is more worth your time, though it may be of interest to view the slow transition from incompetent, to slightly less incompetent filmmaking.

Entertainment / AVP 2 looks...good? The hell?
« on: August 25, 2007, 03:17:18 am »
I don't know how many of you agree, but Alien Vs. Predator was a huge let down with only fleeting minutes of coolness.

Today, I watched the trailer for the sequel (on IGN for anybody curious to see it) and somehow I'm pumped. The midwestern small town is a bad idea for the setting, but this baby is rated R, just like the first movie should have been. Not only that, the CGI seems very limited and the Predators appear to be far more powerful this time around (I'm an alien fan and I still thought the Predators got the short end of the stick in the first one).

Above all else, the aliens make the same animal-like screeches they did from the second movie, a huge plus in my book.

Here's hoping the movie is as good as the trailer.

Just watched this, enjoyed it a lot.

Basically it's Little Miss Sunshine...with a flesh-eating, people-spewing, amphibian monster.

I know it's from Korea and stuff, but aside from a few overly cheesy scenes, it's really amazing. Real characters, lots of panic, drama, comedy, violence, action, gore. The effects are pretty good too, I mean, it's still obviously CGI, but done well.

« on: June 28, 2007, 08:30:44 pm »
I'm making a feature independent film in a few weeks and will be looking for music to go with it. This will be shipped to festivals should it turn out and anybody willing to give me permission to use tracks will probably get some decent exposure. The genre is film noir/mystery, but I'm more than happy to listen to any type of music. It's always best to have a wide collection to pick and choose from.

I can't offer any money in return, but as I said, it's a good plug.

Also, I wasn't sure if this was meant for the recruiting board (if we still have one), so feel free to talk about your bands and make a conversation out of it. :p

By the way, hoping ZonZon replies, in love with the two tracks on your myspace.

After months of work, I'm finally done my next big film project. Curse of the Blood Creature is an epic 27 minute homage to cheesy 1950's monster-on-the-loose flicks. I know people are skeptic about watching other's films, but invest some time and check this out, we put a lot of effort in and I think it shows.

(YouTube not only raped the video quality but forced me to split it into 3 bits)

Zelda Projects / [Completed] Loz: Hall of the Dead
« on: April 22, 2007, 08:24:18 pm »
The day has finally come, I'm finished my second, and probably last Zelda fan game. I've been working on this for well over a year, and am quite proud of it, unfortunately I probably don't have the time for such things anymore, so I decided to finish this up and go out with a bang.

Anyway, the game completely dwarfs my previous effort, Darkness Uprising, but seeing as I'm not strong at either coding or graphics, it's probably not up to the standard of some of the stuff in the WIP forum, yet again this is done, with an overworld, bosses, dungeons, and A LOT of stuff to find. I reckon it'll take a good player 3 or 4 hours to find everything (that's 100 pearls and 17 heart containers). Takes me about 2, and I know it like the back of my hand.

I'm aware of a few small glitches, but they're very rare, such as getting stuck in walls, and to me, unavoidable. Also, I know that sometimes an enemy will pin you against a wall and do some hefty damage, but again, it's a step up from the enemies that stand there and drain your life as seen in DU.

As you can tell, the goal here was not perfection, or to make an epic masterpiece. This was simply a practical step up from what I've done, and on that front I do believe it turned out well. Having said that, feel free to pm me with glitches and typos, I'm only one man, and though I've done a lot of beta testing, I likely missed a few things, and would love to one day release a fixed version 2.

So yeah, that's pretty much the end of the rant. Feel free to add this to your Zelda sites, or whatever sites you might have. Shop it around forums, I don't care. Though I'd prefer if I got credited (if not, I'm splashed over the end credits anyway).

Since everybody else is posting their little comedy sketches and such, I figured I may as well get in the act too and repost my best stuff for those who have yet to see any of it.

Jay Vs. Pepsi Man - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pRvKuXEuQU
The ultimate battle between man and beverage. Look for me as the ring announcer.

Billy the Body - http://youtube.com/watch?v=xKe4uQgU_tM
A completely original, dark-type arthouse parody. I'm both the narrator and the corpse.

Uh Oh! Superstar - http://youtube.com/watch?v=TIfTaaCIL0Q
We discovered our friend Yuri had been on a real gameshow, so we decided to make an extremely cheesy movie about his struggle with fame. Watch for me as a party guest.

Uh Oh! Superstar (Part II) - http://youtube.com/watch?v=oSzI6f5Jesg
The thrilling conclusion.

Romero and Juliet - http://youtube.com/watch?v=42CkgFlXg1U
A trailer for a fake horror movie. I play zombie Romeo. Guy Simmonds (Pyru) does the narration.

Kyle in My Way - http://youtube.com/watch?v=Q8MmN7mahN8
A music video I did as a response to Klope's song about Sol and I.

The Nerds - http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=TheNerds
Our 13 episode YouTube sitcom.

This is the poster for our next project. A parody of 1950's monster on the loose films. We've spent over $100 on props and countless hours preparing, it should blow all of the above films out of the water. It'll probably be done around July or August.

Just got back from Grindhouse and wow, simply amazing. I'd say that it's a must see, but I know some people will miss the point completely and say it's stupid or overly cheesy. Anyway I'm gonna write a full FW review in a bit, but I just want to say that it's entirely worth seeing. Gore, comedy, drama, action, nudity, this movie (or should I say "these movies?") literally has (have?) it all.

The Nicholas Cage cameo may be one of the funniest things I've seen in years.

EDIT: Aforementioned FW review is up now if you're still not convinced to go see it: http://friderwaves.com/permalink/grindhouse/

From Yahoo News...I couldn't make this up if I tried.

Michael Jackson is in discussions about creating a 50-foot robotic replica of himself to roam the Las Vegas desert, according to reports.

The pop legend is currently understood to be living in the city, as he considers making a comeback after 2004's turbulent child sex case.

It has now been claimed that his plans include an elaborate show in Vegas, which would feature the giant Jacko striding around the desert, firing laser beams.

If built, the metal monster would apparently be visible to aircraft as they come in to land in the casino capital.

It is the centerpiece of an elaborate Jackson-inspired show in Vegas, according to Andre Van Pier, the robot's designer.

Luckman Van Pier, his partner at the company behind the proposal, claims blueprints have been drawn up for the show and seen by the star.

"Michael's looked at the sketches and likes them," he told the New York Daily News.

On the subject of the robot, he continued: "It would be in the desert sands. Laser beams would shoot out of it so it would be the first thing people flying in would see."

Anybody catch this on NBC last night?

I was actually really impressed. The idea of hallucinating the victims really gave them character and the mystery was top notch. I also thought that Goldblum did a good job as the lead, deadpan, but not boring and eccentric, but not insane.

I just hope they can keep up this quality...and that it doesn't get cancelled. Knowing shows I like though, it'll probably be canned sooner than later.

My other topic is buried, messy, and locked...hopefully that warrants a new one. Anyway, I've been working on this, but kind of kept it hush-hush til I had a lot more to show. That time is now. I'm roughly 80% done the game with only two dungeons left to go. I'm hoping to finish the game in a month or two max, but that depends on glitches and motivation (or lack therof). Should have a demo for Z3, if not the whole thing. Hehehe.
