Anybody catch this on NBC last night?

I was actually really impressed. The idea of hallucinating the victims really gave them character and the mystery was top notch. I also thought that Goldblum did a good job as the lead, deadpan, but not boring and eccentric, but not insane.

I just hope they can keep up this quality...and that it doesn't get cancelled. Knowing shows I like though, it'll probably be canned sooner than later.

Basically Raines is a detective who hallucinates the victims of crimes. They only know what he knows, and as he learns things about them, they change. For example in the first episode he figured out that the murdered girl was a prostitute so suddenly she had bad makeup and huge boobs...comically he noticed that he just imagined her into a stereotype and fixed it right away.

A lot of people are comparing it to medium and other supernatural mystery shows, but I think it's a bit unfair since these aren't ghosts, they're just Raines' way of drawing a mental image of the victim.

I've heard that it's a combonation of something like Monk and other detective shows...  Is it really good?  I recorded it, but I haven't watched it yet.  I like monk and psych alright.  It seems a little strange that they launched two new detective shows in one night.

I've never actually seen Monk...though I can tell you that Andy Barker P.I. isn't like Raines at all, so doesn't really matter if they launched both shows in one night. I mean, Raines has some comedy, but it's definately trying to be intelligent and serious as well.

I was watching October Road and Raines at the same time. Raines looked pretty witty, like a more serious Monk that imagines the victims. It is also played by that guy from Jurassic Park, so that's an added bonus.
