Rome wasn't built in a day, but they didn't waste time by sitting around doing nothing either!

Yeah, here's those tiles when they got further:

Link in case that's obnoxiously big

Also, some additions I've made to that tileset can be found here:

I added some stuff boards and stuff for the poor section and some building stuff for the rich section. It's scaled twice as big though.

Don't know about using that map, Max. Should've just linked them a tileset(if we had any). If not, looks like we're gonna have to produce sets.

EDIT: I just wanted to point that out, btw. Not saying you were encouraging it, I just wanted to voice my opinion about that map since we're discussing it and its tiles. xD

Oh, yeah. Since this is a tiles thread, I mean, just take the tiles from it, like I did in the second link. I just didn't take all the tiles from that map in the image I linked to second, just a lot of them.

With that said, though, I think these tiles need a lot more before we can accept them as Hyrule Town. BUT, we'll need a more solid concept of the town before we can know what more we'll need. For example, if we decide that there is a church in the middle of the market, and the roof has a bell tower, we'd prolly need to sprite that before we finalize the tileset.

Yes exactly.  Whoever's working on this, and whoever wants to jump on board for it, could you sketch up some concepts?

I'll sketch up some more concepts. I've posted a couple just for looks/style of the area, but do you mean more concrete sketches of the area's layout?

Also, idea bounce for the slums:
Hyrule Town had a really large moat around it. After Ganon was banished, there was a lot of prosperity/peace, so the moat wasn't necessary for defense. So when the population of Hyrule Town increased, they drained the moat to make room for more housing, which was quickly erected and where the poorest people moved.
The thing is, this would kinda make a limit on how wide the slums could reasonably be before the player was like, okay, a moat this wide? Really? But I think having the main entrance to town being a bridge that ran right into the rich market would make sense, rather than having to go through the slums to get in.

Yea, a concrete layout would be needed.

Also, if you REALLY want to get creative with that drained moat, you could put some poor folk living in there if it's deep enough.

I've got a pretty concrete layout of a couple areas in my head, I'll get them here soon.

And yeah, that's what I was talking about, the slums could be an old drained moat. Which could also give them logical access to the sewer system and be a good reason the rich people don't notice them. Thing is, it would be a HUGE moat, if we went with this... I don't actually know how big moats were in the days of old :p

Or we could do a drained moat for the poorest of the poor, and a slightly less poor section on one end of the town. Something like that. I'll come up with a few drafts when I doodle 'em.

I'm gonna move this over to the Concept art section and mark it revise since this is more about the layout.  This board shouldn't really even have anything in it yet.
