[WIP] The Legend of Zelda: No Name

Hey everyone, me and my Brother (TheBerryster) have been working on a Zelda game together. We currently do not have a name for it, but thought we would post it here to see what people think.

the game is programmed in Game Maker, (Using GML code). I programmed everything from scratch, and my brother (TheBerryster) did all the sprite editing. the original sprites can be found on the Spriters Recource (Although ours have changed alot from the originals, as my brother edited and changed most of them).

the game is in 2D, and the original sprites are from Links Awakening, for the Game Boy Color.

Controls
Arrow Keys: Move Link
Enter: Open Menu (From there, you can turn the music on/off) (Use mouse to go through thebes menu,except in the items page, use the arrow keys)
Z: Swing/Slash sword
Hold Z without moving: Charge Spin Attack After finished charging, release Z and Link will do the Spin Attack)
F4: Full Screen/Not Full Screen
CTRL: Take Screenshot

Known Bugs
  • if Link is hurt, he can get knocked into a bush, and become stuck (Slash the bush to get un-stuck)
  • if you jump of a cliff facing down, you may become stuck at the bottom of the cliff
Please report any other bugs found.

EDIT: OMG!!! THAT IS ONE OF THE BEST ENGINE EVER!!!!! The only problem is Link moved too fast except that and that you need a better GB Link. 99/100

Looking forward to playing this once I can get on the laptop (crappy graphics card down here).

All I can really say right now is that the HUD looks pretty cool, but your grasswork could use some attention. Throw in some tufts of grass here and there (like what you see right next to each flower, but on separate tiles), because otherwise the non-flowered part looks too dull and unnatural.

I might have more to say once I've played. I'm always up for some good gameboyage.

Really neat, but I noticed 3 things:

1) You can't face the direction you have a wall on, if i want to face up, but have a wall there, he won't face that way unless i go down and up again.

2) In the dungeon, you can walk trough a closed door?

3)After falling down a hole, when you get back up again, you still have fall sprite.

Other than that, it looks pretty neat
oh, not so important but: After you go out of house, you start far away from it, and you walk a wee bit too fast.

Okies, played it.

In addition to what other people have already said:

Needs Work
-It's a little awkward how he keeps swinging the sword over and over if you hold the button as you're walking.
-If you jump off a downwards-facing cliff without continuing to hold in that direction, Link will land on the base of the cliff and jump again.
-Some of the holes in the dungeon acted like walls...
-You can still move around (and so can the enemies) when the game is paused.
-Menu takes a little too long to come up/go away. It looks nice, but eventually the player is going to get tired of it, because he/she will want to open the menu, whip out an item, and continue playing. Just speed it up, I guess?

Zomg Amazing
-Water looks flippin' sweet. The transparency could make for some cool puzzles/abilities/whatever.
-Falling into a pit also looks flippin' sweet, besides the previously mentioned problem about the sprite still being there when you get back up.
-I love the speed of the spin attack. Really makes it look more powerful.
-The idea of the transparenty menu coming up is cool; it's just that issue with speed.

Thanks for the comments and Suggestions.

Drazzke has already fixed a few things that you have mentioned, and will be fixed in the next version:
Menu: The whole game now freezes when the menu is opened. It also closes faster.
Holes: They now work better, and none of them should act like walls anymore.
Can go through the door in the dungeon: Fixed!
When exiting the house, you do not apear right in front of the door: Fixed!

As for the "Continued Swinging", Me and Drazzke will look into that.

Also, we have finished a bit of the inventory, and you can now use the bow. The next version will also have a limited amount of arrows.

If me and Drazzke have time, we may be able to add a simple miniboss to the dungeon XD

Note: All of the above features will be in the next version (0.2), they are not in it right now!

Again, thanks for Comments+Suggestions! If you think anything else needs to be changed/added/removed, please say so, and we will take it under consideration! XD

UPDATE! (Fast, eh? XD)

Version 0.2 is released, and it includes:

The Bow! - You can use this item to shoot enemies! (Right now you have unlimited arrows). Use Z/X to use (Depending on what slot you have it equiped to)
Switching items - Z/X (You ca choose what weapon you want equiped to each slot)

Bugs no More! XD
Walking through door - Fixed.
When falling down a pit, your sprite stays as the falling sprite - Fixed.
When Menu is opened, the game does not freeze - Fixed.
Menu opens really slowly - Fixed.
Continued Slashing - Fixed.
Falling into a pit - Works much more nicely.
When Exiting the little house, you are not right in front of the door - Fixed

Thats all I can remember, if anyone notices anything else I forgot to mention, please tell me
