Title: Zelda sprites
Post by: OpenCoconut25 on April 11, 2011, 12:48:36 am
I saw an awesome skull kid cosplay on the internet, and it inspired me to make this:
its still will need some polishing up, especially for the side view and the hat thing.

Post by: OpenCoconut25 on April 12, 2011, 07:02:46 am

i'll try making a kinda 'hat' from the first hat mixed with the random head thingies in the second

Here we go:
it is hard thught to get a decent hat without making it look like a redish blur on his head!
like usual, any more advice will be appreciated

I liked the mask that you drew, but I think the colors are not very good. The blue mingles with the red. I think we lack a whiter shade too ... or some similar color.

I found example on the sprite -resource, to you look at the colors.

About the hat, here, some exemples.

look at the witch and the farmers.

Nice try, Moffett1990. I just change the colors.

Post by: OpenCoconut25 on April 13, 2011, 01:27:52 am
Ok guys, thanks for the advice.
i made one more skull kid and compared it with the previous (and Moffet1990's(sorry!))
tell me which you like best. i want to achieve something in between 2 and 3.
also 2 has a different mask which i was experimenting with!

EDIT: I fixed the credit to Moffet1990. he did number 3. sorry
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: Moffett1990 on April 13, 2011, 02:08:54 am
In the pic  it says i made number 2 I did numb 3 lol
Title: Re: Zelda sprites

sorry. i'll fix
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: OpenCoconut25 on April 13, 2011, 07:35:44 am
Well i think i did a decent job of mixing 2 and 3.(example 7 )
i made the arms a bit longer to give him that lanky look he has.
i really liked moffet1990's sprite, but i feel the longer arms were a good addition
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: Leduardo on April 13, 2011, 02:54:49 pm
I liked the number two,
just change the colors and maybe change few things on hat.

i like it ... the only reason i did it the colors i did is because of the pic u posted above in it he is n those colors
i tried the skullkids face [imgzoom]http://i449.photobucket.com/albums/qq211/moffett1990/skullkid-1.png[/imgzoom]and i put leduardos mask on him because i liked the colors
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: OpenCoconut25 on April 14, 2011, 01:54:49 am
wow nice work.
a had a few goes at the face( no where near as good as yours.)
also, Leduardo, i really like your mask. the purple is a perfect shade and really makes the red stand out!

Post by: OpenCoconut25 on April 18, 2011, 08:20:56 am
sorry to keep you waiting, but here, i bit of new stuff (alot of old)
Mask 1 and skull kid 8 are Leduadro's and skull kid 3 is Moffet1990's.
so far mask 1 or 2 is my favourite (2 is just a slightly modified version of Leduardo's mask)
tell me what you think, or maybe best body, hat and mask combos XD
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: Leduardo on April 19, 2011, 04:30:33 am
I liked the hat i did.
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: OpenCoconut25 on April 19, 2011, 11:23:54 pm
Me too. it was probably the best one!
so in saying that, i made two, both with my body and the originals arms, your mask, but with variations (in the palette ) of your hat
do the colours work? give me your opinion.
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: Darklink45 on April 20, 2011, 05:29:25 am
It looks awesome, you should add the spikes at the bottom of the mask.
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: Sinkin on April 20, 2011, 09:12:40 am
Didn't liked the mask so I had a try at it. Maybe a bit big but it's decent.
Title: MAJORA'S MASK
Post by: Leduardo on April 20, 2011, 05:44:19 pm
I liked the Sinkin Devil mask, but i thought it is too big for the skull kid sprite.
I did some changes on the last mask i edited, inspiring on SinkinDevil's mask.
The result was this:

I think its better. Hope you like it.
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: Sinkin on April 20, 2011, 09:11:07 pm
I don't know about shrinking the mask, it looks to compressed. So, I made a decent version of Skull Kid with my version of the mask. Please bare with me with Skull Kid, I made it on my laptop with the mousepad so it's not the best. I hope it gets you guys on track at least.
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: Darklink45 on April 20, 2011, 09:42:08 pm
My mask wasn't really made for MC, FSA was bigger in comparison,
also my mask was a little too big, but if you think about it MC and FSA using the WW link (witch has a large head)
and most of the other NPCs, MM is more realistic, so maybe it could translate well having a big mask (or head).
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: Moffett1990 on April 20, 2011, 11:24:55 pm
Awsome if u make the hat bigger it will be perfect
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: OpenCoconut25 on April 23, 2011, 07:33:14 am
thanks for the suggestions
the problem with a larger skull kid is the size dosent fit to MC style, and so shrinking it will, like SinkinDevil said will only make it look compressed. its why i think sticking with Leduardo's mask is the way to go. designing a body to match it would be best.
heres some of my latest ideas:(i like the red underlined one)
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: Leduardo on April 23, 2011, 08:13:52 pm
I liked the red one too, but uses the newest mask i did. It is the same size and looks better than the old one.

thanks for the suggestions
the problem with a larger skull kid is the size dosent fit to MC style,
That's what i said, i made the Skull kid for FSA witch has larger NPC's or enemies.

I liked the red one too, but uses the newest mask i did. It is the same size and looks better than the old one.
isnt that the newest one, anyway i'll change it

as for darklink45, i really like your FSA style sprite, but like i said, i am trying to achieve a MC style skull kid, but great work none the less ;)

With skull kid petty much out of the way, i made these.
there mean't to be the green moblin crossing the rope in the SS trailer.
the hammer is from melari, and the body shape from the pokemon trainers black/white
enjoy, and tell me if anythings wrong XD
EDIT: how do you change the description on the topic?(stupid question)

If they are suppost to be the bokoblins of skyward sword then they need lots of work but u have a good base
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: OpenCoconut25 on May 01, 2011, 03:56:34 am
Yes, i agree, the sprites need heaps of work, but i just wanted to get a basic idea of the movement on a wobbly rope!
as for skull kid what needs changing? i dont really know what to do.

Did u pick a final sprite for him ?
i Did this one the other day ! I even tried other directions .....
I was going to do a whole sheet but I didnt want to because i remembered u were doing yours

thats really good Moffet1990. i love the hat, especially from the back. the side is a bit wierd, but i really think its good.
also, i dont mind if you do yours; 1) its your design and 2) this is a place where we share ideas anyway. great job XD
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: OpenCoconut25 on May 02, 2011, 07:30:43 am
well of all the designs, I think ill stick to the latest one of mine. i think by using link's body, with lanky arms,i can get the look fairly close.
To see, i made a mockup of what a real game might look like. do you think it fits?
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: Eleo on May 02, 2011, 12:08:34 pm
When placed in a "MC-version of the intro" mockup, it look stunning. Perspectivewise with comparing Link and Skull Kid, it looks spot-on. Great job!

well with skull kid out of the way (seriously now) I made these in my spare time

Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: Leduardo on May 04, 2011, 02:38:14 pm
OpenCoconit25.
I liked the head you did. Too nice.

A long time ago I did a version of Anouki studing the moviments of the Anouki from the game. I made the sprite, but i postponed editing it.
I made some changes by adding yours and mine Anouk.
(The first version is in the original colors of ripping)

What do you think?

thanks Leudardo

I gave the returning part a go were it tilts and clings back to links arm.
I think hurt colour then an transition screen returning to link would complete the effect

What do you think?
Just needs to be improved Link's rotation.

Title: Re: Zelda sprites

ok, here goes:
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: Leduardo on June 24, 2011, 03:28:27 pm
ok,
I just change the beetle coming sprite, when Link take it with his hand. The beetle grab his hand on the oposite site.

I think that beetle should be grabbing when Link is on side view, because the beetle rotate only 90º and not 180º like you propose.

To finish all the movement, you need to do Link taking the beetle of his magic bag.
(I ripped that movement - with the bottle - when I did the WerewolfLink)
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: . on June 24, 2011, 06:13:00 pm
If the beetle is grabbed in Link's left hand, he should spin in that direction, which is counter-clockwise. You have him spinning clockwise.
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: Miles07 on June 28, 2011, 07:18:43 am
PLUS, you should have poses where Link is spinning 360*, since you can't say he's only going to shoot his beetle out when he's facing up. So there needs to be at least 8 poses for when Link's whipping out/retrieving his beetle (up,down, left, right, diagonal).
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: OpenCoconut25 on July 15, 2011, 09:45:41 am
okay
-jimn346, yes he should spin that way, so i fixed it
-Miles07, i know what you mean, and all you have to do is start and stop the animation earlier to change the side he shoots, but ok.
-Leduardo, i see what u mean by the turn, and i did the magic bag.

so>magic bag >shooting>(flying)>returning(spinning animation)>shooting/exit

also, is a slightly updated version of the ss bokoblins

you could do link on a rope with a "fall meter" where the player hast do use the left and right button so that link doesnt fall off
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: OpenCoconut25 on August 12, 2011, 06:55:10 am
ok, im working on a meter, but the one i really wnated some crits and advice was the girahim, any ideas, he doesnt look quite right
Title: Re: Zelda sprites
Post by: Sinkin on August 12, 2011, 12:25:22 pm
The reason why Girahim looks weird is cause you made him based of Link. Make a sprite from scratch instead, so you are not limited with Link's size.

And also his hair. That kind of hair doesn't work all that well with minish cap style, in my opinion. Maybe take some reference from vaati or maybe swiftblade? I didn't think giagahnim or what's his name's hair was that crazy.

As a moderator I have to ask that you stop gravedigging. This is not the first time I have seen you do it. Please do not post in old inactive topics without relevant new resources. On the same note, please refrain from double posting on the forum. Edit your last post instead.

I'm sorry, but what was wrong about his dig here? He gave actually gave a relevant thought on the sprite that nobody else really pointed out? I mean, yeah, people noted the hair was odd, but arrowriver noted how to get it right. And wouldn't have it been better to PM him instead of posting in a topic? :S

Common sense also has a play in it, however. The last activity in the thread was about seven months ago, so it's reasonable to say that the OP has moved on and left this in the past.

Although it's both points are true, we generally don't look down on gravedigging here unless it's a 100% pointless post.

Ahhhh... yeah, yeah. Point taken. The OP did indeed leave the thread. I was just driven by the idea that discussion could've continued on. But I guess if OP is MiA.. hm.

EDIT: That topic title threw me off, man. O___o

I do not look down upon gravedigging too much, but this topic has been inactive for quit some time and I'm not sure he noticed. Combined with double posting and being rather new, I decided to kindly point out the general guidelines. No PM was send because I felt it better to talk openly about such things.
