One that really makes you stop and think...

For me, that song is "Right where it Belongs" by Nine Inch Nails.

Listen to it here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ElrldD02if0

Freebird - Lynyerd Skynyerd (sp?)
Sky is Falling - Blackalicious

Both fantastic songs, both always get me thinking, or inspire me.

The only songs that really get me thinking are "Your Heart is an Empty Room" by Death Cab for Cutie and "Within You Without You" by The Beatles.

But, there are a couple songs that make me feel very emotional, and "touch me deeply".
Two are "Magnolia" by The Hush Sound and "Carnival Barker" by Third Eye Blind.

Killswitch Engage - The End of Heartache
Recently, that was synchronized with myself - considering some events xP

Other than that, songs just touch me deeply in case I'm very vulnerable emotionally. :\

http://youtube.com/watch?v=NSypnaxAlP4  <--- Frank sinatra by cake.  Sad/sweet song.

I can't find a copy of 3030, but if you go to www.pandora.com and type Deltron 3030, or 3030 in, you should be able to either listen to the song or listen to similar songs.  Deltron 3030 songs aren't really emotional, they just kick ass.

Different songs touch me at different times. Depends on what's going on at the time.

I can't remember what the song is called...but I remember once I was driving to school...and I hadn't talked to my dad in a long time (he was going through some bad crap...basically disowned me and my brother for about 6 months) and yeah...I heard this song, about this dad that was always working to support his family and stuff...so the kid runs into his room, breaks his piggy bank, brings back some change to his mom and says "How much time will this buy me?" and it really got to me...cause I missed my dad.

Probably I've Got a Match by They Might Be Giants.  It's terribly sad without being emo.  It really hits home in a lot of ways, and it's REALLY depressing.  It's what you might call a break-up song.  It's so depressing, the band hasn't played it live since 1989.

Here's a link to a live version, which sounds even more depressing than the album version:

Laugh if you will, but I don't listen to much serious music, so when my girl dumped me, this hurt a bit.

Like everyone I don't have just 'one song' that touches me, but there are several. I'm a big.. music.. !@#$%, and I'm very anal about what I listen to, and I like to debate about music. :P Its right up there with politics for me.. best not to ask why, because I'm not sure.

None the less, some of these songs will come off sounding weird, if you know the meaning behind the song you'll understand why they're here.

Pearl Jam - Jeremy  - The song is yes, about a kid who shoots up a school in Texas (yes a real shooting) but stepping away from that context the song is about self-control, not letting other people bother you, it also gives you a look inside of the minds of people you bother, it really for me is one of the more meaningful songs of that time period.  -- http://youtube.com/watch?v=oNO6pAJBCs4 (its the *first* video that was shot, not the *banned* video.)

Leadbelly - Where did you sleep last night?  - We all most likely heard this song for the first time on the Unplugged album of Nirvana's. Though I probably listen to the Nirvana version more than the leadbelly version, its probably one of the more interesting songs I can think of. The song sucks me in whether I listen to Dolly Partons Version, Cobains version, or Leadbellys. Leadbelly was a blues artist from the late 1800s to the early 1900s, who influenced Kurt Cobain quite a bit (hence the song on the unplugged album).  -- http://youtube.com/watch?v=aM1ZVC2Lkjc (Nirvana's) http://youtube.com/watch?v=qzPZ2ONFioY (leadbellys)

Wayne Cochran & the C.C. Riders - Last Kiss -- (Pearl Jam also covered the song in the late 90s). Amazing song, if you haven't heard it I recommend it. http://youtube.com/watch?v=D83fH6BWVGA (all I could find is the pearl jam version)

Boa - Duvet -- The song was on an Anime sound track (something in relation to... Lain.. I don't remember the.. actual.. anime. :p) Anyway,  Boa or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C3%B4a is a British band, not to be confused with the Japanese girl "Boa" who does anime music. Jasime (the lead singer) has one of the most beautiful voices. http://youtube.com/watch?v=oqEeTHlqpXU

Honestly.. anything by Pearl Jam, Matchbox Twenty(Rob Thomas), Dave Mathews, eh My list could go on so much further.. there are so many talented people out there, sometimes their songs are never heard..  Oh.. and I'm bad.. and I don't remember who mentioned.. No Doubt.. Uma maybe? Early No Doubt... She has an amazing voice that also tends to capture me.. anything off of Tragic Kingdom You can't not.. like.. Don't Speak is one of the betters.

Sorry. :( I'm a typing !@#$%.

If a song touched me deeply, I'd sue, like I sued Michael Jackson.

Just kiddin'.

Wow. Uhm. For a year or so, the most touching song for me's been "It's All Gonna Break" by Broken Social Scene.

I could go on FOREVER about why I love this song so much, but to break it down fairly simply... it's just this really sad song about how people !@#$% up, how it's all perfectly natural, and that in the end, everyone dies - and that's the most beautiful thing in the world. It's an incredible song (even if it's 10 minutes long, and the last four minutes are basically just "Why are you always !@#$% ghosts?" over and over again...) and it just always gets me.

"Coffee & TV" by Blur used to be a big one for me. There's so many meanings you can take from the song, but from what I hear, it's about Graham Coxon's alcoholism and how he overcame it for... his girlfriend, I think, by.... drinking coffee and watching TV. Weird, huh? Still, it's basically a song about love and feeling lost in the world, which I think most people can identify with.

"Save Your Day" - Jos?? Gonz??l??z (I hope I spelt that right...) is again, just phenomenal. About standing up for yourself, being strong, but it's never corny.

"Comforting Sounds" by Mew is just... epic, really. It's about being let down by friends, and problems with drugs'n'stuff, but still caring nonetheless. If there's anyone who doesn't find this somehow heroic, I'll be amazed.

Other ones that are important to me, but I can't be bothered to write about:

"Wake Up" - Arcade Fire
"Specialist" - Interpol
"We Used To Vacation" - Cold War Kids

Really, check any of those out. They're all great songs.
