I have no idea what you are supposed to do as I never played Startropics.  In this demo all I can seem to do is walk around.

Yeah, that's all you can do in it. It sucks, I know. But at least I tried!! Heck, I even give myself a 3 on this! Or I would, but that would be arrogant, voting for myself.

Nothing really to see here. It doesn't appear as though any work was put into this. It's merely a walking demo, and not a very good one at that. Especially with a Rapid-Development tool such as Game Maker, you could have made a lot better if you had spent more than 8 minutes on this. Collision is ineffective as well, as I can easily move diagonally to get out and into the water. You didn't even bother putting collision boxes along the other island areas.

What? I didn't even know diagonal movement was possible. I tried. Meh. And a lot more than 8 minutes was put into this! I suck at programming and stuff, so I knew it wouldn't hold its own. I had the title screen, but it took forever to load with that intact. So I removed it. And I know that it is just a walking demo; I refer to it as that. Yeesh. Can you say harsh, or no holds barred?

What good would it do you, in terms of your improvement, if I were to hold back, rather than telling you exactly how I feel about the project?

I see your points, and I know. I'll need them if I'm to improve on it. Thank you for not holding back. It's just the one thing that I didn't like about your review was claiming I spent 8 minutes on it. That stung. Everything else in the comment was reasonable. I would've put Coralcola in if I could've gotten the text to work; and the dungeon if I hadn't been running out of time. Still, I worked hard on this, and am proud of its horrendousness (also, Kylink, you owe me rupees). Thank you for your comments, but please don't assume that because of its quality it was only worked on for a short amount of time. Programming is not exactly my forte. Storywriting is, though.

I'm sorry to say, but I can't even think of this as a walking engine, as it doesn't walk, but rather teleport one tile in the direction i press.

I'll give this a 3 for the try.

I agree. It can only help a project by having criticism, even if its unashamed and not held back.

I must say, I'm sure you put effort in, just ran out of time (and effort) that is certainly what happened to me. Oh well, I give this a 2. I owe you 50 rupees it seems.

Startropics doesn't ring a bell here... And I'm clueless about what to do.
As far as I did see, just walking around. Not bad, it's okay. Maybe a 6.
