Discussion / Zelda 1 - MC Style (concept/idea)
« on: November 17, 2011, 05:37:48 am »
Haven't posted here in awhile o_O, sorry about that. Life & work & other things got in the way. I remember I wanted to make another game here awhile ago, if anyone cares about what happened there, I had a good portion of the engine ready for the game itself, but I had to do a computer format, lost the engine, lost any work I had done, didn't backup anything, so I got frustrated & stopped. =/

Anyway, I've been getting back in a Zelda mood lately with Skyward Sword on the way. Then I thought, hey, this could be a good idea granted we do it right.

Im talking a full blown remake, same secrets, same areas, but better graphics and more..... unique dungeons, new weapons, maybe some extra goodies, while keeping the spirit of the original as much as possible.

I'm not 100% sure if I want to attempt it so i figured I'd ask you guys.
I haven't attempted anything Zelda related as far as game design goes in a long time, hell i haven't made anything in awhile. But I think this would be a good project that wouldn't be too hard to pull off with a solid team

Also, I'm not talking about a remake in something like, say, Zelda classic. I'm talking a re-imagining of sorts.

As far as tools go, I'd most likely use a Game Maker engine by I believe it was DLbrooks...something. I lost it awhile ago but I'm sure I can find it again. But I may attempt to make one completely from scratch, but that'd take a lot longer, as I've been outta the game awhile.

Alright, thanks a lot! I'm gonna try to start learning a bit of coding over the summer before I go to college, I'm getting more into filmmaking but also taking some game design classes on the side, I figure one could help the other whichever way I decide on.

But right now I'm going to work on making the dungeon actually somewhat... challenging... lol. That I can do on my own, basically the first dungeon is going to use a combination of the boomerang, arrows, and bombs for any puzzles it has. Those are all simple enough for even me to do right.

I have done absolutely nothing to the engine to change it for the bosses, I'm not good at coding as I said so I've been focusing more on other things right now. I just want a boss good to run by z3, I'll send you the GMK file in a PM, but don't expect much from the simple dungeon I have whipped up, its something I made in about 10 minutes just to have something at least for now, the actual dungeon is almost complete on paper but I haven't really started it yet due to pure laziness.

But to answer your questions, no the bosses room will not be bigger then 160x144, I have the bosses sprites & spritesheet in, but haven't done much with it, and i basically just want ganon to teleport around and do a different attack each time, like a slash for one, fireballs for another, ect.

It actually doesn't sound too difficult, but my limited GML skills make it much more annoying then it should be.

4Sword, I'm looking to make a boss similar to the Oracle of Ages/Seasons Ganon, maybe not exactly the same but Ganon is the 3rd dungeon boss in my game, which is the one I plan to include in my z3 demo, since by then the player would have most of the weapons & would be the best way to showcase it. I need help with all my bosses but this is one that for now I really want ready.
But enemy AI is something I have never known how to do. I'm using DLbrooks33's GBC Zelda engine if it helps you out.
My game is going pretty smoothly other then the boss A.I. Right now they just run around aimlessly or follow extremely simple GM paths, which I do not want to do.

I haven't been updating this topic, but believe it or not I have been working on the game. Before z3 I plan to do a huge update, don't feel like it now. But heres basically what I've gotten done since then.

The entire overworld, the whole thing is practically done, just waiting on a request i put in the gfx section.
Town 1
Hyrule Castle
Hyrule Castle Town
The "Lost Woods" (I'm actually not sure I like what I did with these so it may change though.)
Dungeon 1 is all but done, I'm terrible with AI so the boss is an idiot right now, but I'll have that changed as soon as i learn how to.
I'm also throwing around an idea to use the very beginning part of the story as a prologue before the game even begins.

I actually plan to have the entire game finished by the time Z3 starts in order to work on an original project with a few friends. But not sure if I'll make it.
The quality of this game is not real zelda quality, as in people can tell its a fan game. But heres what counts, its playable, it has a decent story, and its helping me get a bit better with gamemaker in general, which is always good.

Edit-7/18
Got everything done from the prologue up until a "mock dungeon", which will be dungeon 1, but for now its not at all how i want it to be. SO this mock dungeon will be included in the z3 demo most likely, but it is not in any way the final thing.

I have not noticed anybody actually replied to this topic, school !@#$% me over so I had to do alot of work in order to get out without summer school or even worse a second year. Either way I got my free time back so I'm gonna start up on this game again. So I'll try to get some work done sometime soon.

But Degoza is actually not bad. You may have something there.
And whoever asked about the personality of said "evil god" he's a cunning !@#$%, smart and generally knows what he's going to do up until the very end.

Info about the game itself is here http://www.zfgc.com/forum/index.php?topic=36452.0.

What I mainly need help with are bosses & unique enemies such as minibosses. I have the basic engine but I really don't know what I'm doing when it comes to enemy AI, I'm sure I could figure it out eventually but I'm pretty much clueless on that right now. Making regular run of the mill enemies like octorocks & moblins I could do thats pretty simple, but for boss battles I want anyone who plays my game to experience something awesome, and I simply don't have the skill with GML to produce that.

I'm also looking for concept artists & spriters for the bosses, each boss is directly a guardian of the Triforce (in my game atleast) so I'm kind of looking for something to reflect that, as well as a design for the main antagonist, who is pretty much a bigger, armored fierce deity link.

Anyone who wants to help out in any other way can also do that if they want, I mostly have the story done, but it is a bit simple so some help there would be nice too.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OoA/S & LA / [Solved] GBC Fierce Deity Ganondorf.
« on: May 10, 2010, 01:16:39 am »
I'm really gettin some use out of this topic eh?
For the game I'm making I need someone to make me what they think Ganondorf would look like with the fierce deity mask on, its pretty essential so any help would be gladly appreciated.

Or if someone can find me a normal GBC styled ganondorf, I could atleast use that as a placeholder until I find what I'm looking for.

The Legend of Zelda: Fierce Diety Origins

Link awakes to the sound of a goddess screaming for him to save her, he sets out to the tower of the gods where he is told in his dream she is. There an evil god, the original Fierce Diety, is saying the goddesses have weakened him and he needs a new body. He battles link, possesses his body afterwards. Din, the goddess of power casts a spell on Link to keep the Fierce Diety sealed inside Link. She then tells him to search for the triforce, which contains the true power of the gods, in order to free the evil Fierce Diety from him and destroy him once and for all.

There are going to be 3 major dungeons. A Prologue & Epilogue. The final part of the game will be a series of several boss fights.

Progress.
Prologue 100%
Overworld Tiling 100%
Overworld Population (Treasures, NPCS, etc.) 25%
Dungeon 1 100% But most likely will see major overhaul before release
Lost Woods 100% But most likely will see major overhaul
Hyrule Castle, Hyrule Castle Town, Dungeons 2 & 3, Epilogue, Boss A.I. All anywhere between 0-20%

Simple update, mostly progress. Still not planning to show alot until z3 or when the game is completely finished. Whichever comes first.

I agree with DJ. The story is really nice. Reminds me a bit of Kamen Rider Decade, but it is a very good story nonetheless. I do have some questions.

From your description I can make up that it is an adventure?

Is there a linear progression in your story, or do you allow some deviation from the main path? Can the player revisit already explored areas/worlds and/or take sneak peaks in not yet fully explored areas/worlds.

The final question: I see that with Marvel you have Wolverine and Spider-Man in the cast. But why not the most brilliant Marvel character: Deadpool? Or do you think it is to difficult to make some funny dialogue for the guy?

Yeah the player can revisit previously beaten areas, in fact i plan to have  every area visited storywise-line twice, and a few getting a third visit. And Deadpool is awesome, i was going to make him a mini-boss, i chose wolverine and spider-man because they're the most recognized marvel characters.
And also i WANT to have it so you can do each area in any order, but i don't know if that would be possible, but if i CAN do it, i will.
One more thing, the gameplay will be entirely turn based rpg style, but i'll cut down on random battles, because i know how annoying they can be, i'll also make it so grinding isn't really necessary. Thanks for the responses.

wow... i posted this up on The Spriters Resource, and everyone there seems like a total !@#$%, i mean what the hell is wrong with those !@#$%. Sorry no real update yet other than that link is almost fully done, i'll have him, along with the 2 custom main characters done by Saturday. And i'll post up a very brief gameplay vid of them all fighting something, still early stages but just so i can officially feel like i can put this in the WiP section.

I've been screwing around in my head for an idea for a game I've been wanting to make since i was about 10 years old, now that i have atleast enough skill in RPG Maker 2003 and GameMaker, I think i can bring my little childhood dream to life.

See this game is a Kingdom Hearts-esque game, except with characters from all over, as in Video Games, Movies, Anime, Comics even.

I want to have a system similar to the dualtechs in Chrono Trigger where the main character can do special, incredibly powerful moves depending on who's in the party.

The story is in Pre-Dev. stages but it goes like One evil monster is trying to merge all the universes together and then destroy them, or something like that. For now its not all important, i just want to see what you guys think of my idea.

Now for the characters i want to include, that list is quite massive and i KNOW to ever finish this game i can't include them all, the first 10 are the ones that WILL be in the game, no questions asked.

Zelda
Halo
Metroid
Super Mario
Final Fantasy Dissidia (To combine the FFs into one)
Metal Gear
Marvel
DC Comics
Dragonball Z
Devil May Cry

These 10 franchises i feel truly deserve to be in my game, and i'll be focusing on them the most. Everything else i'll try but depending on whether or not anyone else wants in we'll see.

Chrono Trigger
Gears of War
God of War
Breath of Fire
Street Fighter
inFAMOUS
Soul Caliber
Ninja Gaiden
Castlevania

There are others but these are all the ones i want in my game the most.

Now i want to make this game in RPG Maker 2003, as it would be easiest to make the kind of battle system i would want. I'm also considering making it a FFVI Rom heck

Quote

Main Chars
Italia ( I'm Italian so this fits )
Cero

Zelda
Y-Link(w/ masks) (this fits better into the story   masks = own, adult link comes on 2nd visit)

Halo
Master Chief

Metroid
Samus

Super Mario
Mario, Luigi

Final Fantasy Dissidia (To combine the FFs into one)
Cloud, Squall, Terra (3 characters here simply because of the AWESOMEness of Final Fantasy)

Metal Gear
Solid Snake

Marvel
Wolverine, Spider-man

DC Comics
Batman, Superman

Dragonball Z
Goku, Vegeta (Both will have Super Saiyan, no SSJ2,3,4 because they would be crazy overpowered then)

Devil May Cry
Dante, Nero (Both will have Devil Trigger

Now for a more clear view on the story.
Quote from: The Story
The main villain for a time IS actually a character which we'll call the Fallen Angel for now, yes this character is greatly inspired by Sephiroth. He was once a guardian of the worlds ( Think Keyblade Masters in KH ), as a guardian of the world he had more power than anyone in the worlds he ruled over can ever hope to gain. He went mad with his great power and completely broke the rules of his position by attacking one of the worlds (the main characters') and ruling it for himself. He was the most powerful of the guardians and as others went to stop him, he began draining their power with a magic forbidden by the guardians, eventually he became stronger than the original guardians and killed them, leaving him as the strongest in The Multiverse.

Thats the basic prologue, not using enough big words and such but thats the basic idea, I'm not good with names so if anyone can think of any names for any original character please feel free to tell, also i don't want generic names i want something epic sounding, yet not fruity at all.

I also don't want to write the area-specific stories her for spoiler reasons

Heh, until i actually start work on the game its pretty much a fanfic. And once i actually write the full overview of the game anybody that wants to read it can pm me for a quick, yet spoiler filled summary of the main story (excluding universe-specific stories)

Since we're in a Zelda forum i thought it'd be nice to start it off with a small preview of my Link sprite, i'm going FFVI style considering i STILL might make it a rom heck after all.

If anyone wants to help me out in any way reply here, pm me, or E-mail me at TomMyG17@live.com
TY
