Title: New Moderators
Post by: Infinitus on April 14, 2008, 06:36:43 pm
Lately we've been changing the moderation staff for a variety of reasons, some are new and some will be going. To cut to the chase, we now have three new mods, say hi to; Bert, Domo and Theforeshadower. Hopefully they should do a good job ;).

I don't agree with one of them.

Who is bert? And I don't know if I agree with Domo or not. I'll have to look him up more. Congrat Fourshadower.

Bertfallen and Domo definetly deserved it.

Tough luck. Its not your choice, its the head moderators.

Who is bert?
Bertfallen (http://www.zfgc.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=335), sorry I usually shorten his name.

theforeshadower, imo, is that last person deserving of modship even Sora deserves it more than him.

Well put it this way, if he missbehaves now there are bigger consequences.

I think it's unfair to single him out. You should say "If any of them misbehaves, there are now bigger consequences."

Users unfortunately don't get the option of agreeing or disagreeing with who moderators are.

This topic is NOT for flaming new ZFGC staff members, I expect more out of you guys, if I see anything further on it, I'll come out of my resigned-shell and kick some ass. Because your comments are 100% uncalled for and will come with consequences.

Good choices, I suppose.

I don't know Bertfallen or Theforeshadower that well, but Domo is a great choice.

Oh, by the way.. The chances of me becoming a moderator are slimmer than twiggy, but in case that time ever comes.. Don't pick me. I never want to be a mod.

Mod's are asked before they're picked. Thanks for the information though. :)

I recommended Domo strongly, >.<. He does make a lot of reports and beyond that he seems like he will be a team player.  I have no opinion on the other two really, but I think that if someone else believes in them that should be enough.  bertfallen exemplifies an aspect of intelligent and caution while Theforeshadower is at least enthusiastic and active.

I disagree with this. First off, if we weren't suppose to voice our opinion than the topic should be locked. I agree that flaming is wrong, but even though it doesn't matter we are still allowed to say whether we disagree or not. I don't think anything I said would count as a flame. I don't know Bert, so I didn't say congratulations. I don't know Domo too well, so I said I would look at his post history (which I probably won't), and because I don't know him I don't know if it's a good choice or not. I congratulated Foreshadower because I know him and think he'll do a good job.

I think as long as this topic remains unlocked we should be allowed to voice our opinion as long as we don't break any rules.

Yeah, although I disagree with what you said, I don't believe that simply disagreeing with the choices made is a flame.

Hmm, since I recognize your name I looked at your post history. Well, I don't know. from what I can tell I've seen you call a lot of people an idiot just for disagreeing with you, and some other bad stuff, but I've also seen you be mature. I mean, not as mature as me when I'm not being lazy, but mature enough where I could see you as a mod.

I could see you going both ways with the mod thing, but since being a mod means you have to have pride in yourself and behave I think you'll do at least a good job. I look forward to seeing how this effects you, and how you will effect ZFGC as a mod.

To note on a few things:
1) I didn't count anything I saw in spam.
2) I don't mean this as disrespect. I am giving you a complement. It's not a perfect "OMG YOU"LL be a greaT MOD!!" complement, but it is a "I think you'll do a good job, I am 75% sure."

Sora, you try too hard to be anti.

Anti? Is that a member? Or are you saying I am pessimistic? The latter is true, but this is not the topic for that.

I'm a bit of a hypocrite when it comes to opinions but thats because I keep on changing mine with my mood. And I try to keep my immaturity to when I'm with my mates, its just how they know me to be honest.

But yeah I see where you're coming from and no offense or disrespect taken.

Also even if you did count things in Spam doubt it'd of changed anything I barely post in there. And even when I do its not really spammish things anyway :P

From the perspective of someone who has risen from the bottom all the way to the top and then took a step down, moderation may not be rewarded, but it is where all of the work gets done.  The lack of sunshine though because I sit in front of a computer a lot, that is one of the many drawbacks.  That and sores.  I need more cushions for my seats.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you guys getting a little defensive over some dude on the internet saying he doesn't agree with your choice? Administration isn't necessarily smarter than members just because they're administration. People will disagree with you. It's just a fact.

Congratulations to the new mods, sorry to old mods who are gone, and above all, remember not to let power go to your head.

One other thing

Quote
Being a moderator really, really isn't that great. Now, administrating.. That's where it's at.

Moderators have the power to enforce rules through persuasion, and the power to manipulate posts on the forum. Administrators have the power to enforce rules in general. There's nothing really glamorous about either of them.

Being an admin and or a mod, depending on the type of community, can pretty much be the most unglamorous thing ever. It can suck you dry and make things very unfun, it also makes things get very serious. Depends on the person as well and how well they can balance themselves as a community member and a staff member, if you can do that well, you'll do fine.

I'm getting defensive because I find it very disrespectful for someone to tout someone else's abilities, when they've yet to give them a chance. I think its rude and uncalled for. Its no different than flaming in my book, I really don't think we should be disrespecting each other at that level.. at least not where people can see it. What you do on your own time is your own thing.

Well, if you want to be technical, when I was choosing new moderators a long while back, that was an application topic, and all of those picked now did apply through that.  If anything, all of them then were viewed as good but were picked over at the time, but in this time, they have learned a bit more since then.

It's kinda of hard to compare the three of us to the other mods after just two days.  We've haven't even had enough time to really do much of anything, while the other mods have been here and doing well for some time.  I think I can speak for all three of us when I say that we are all still just learning.  It's much too early to say whether or not we'll end up doing well.

...Foreshadower i'm good with you being a mod...i just wasn't in that good of a mood when i said that.
4shad is actually one of the best mods here.

Yeah, I guess you have a point there. At least no one is doing badly.
