Entertainment / Any Poker Pro's around here?
« on: September 02, 2009, 09:03:45 pm »
Here's the deal. I've become pretty obsessed with poker over the last week and me and a buncha friends are having a poker night this friday. :D No money involved though :( *sighs*
The only experience in poker I have to this day is playing on facebook xD I often really don't understand why somebody with the same hand as me wins the entire pot and I don't get a penny!
Or why sometimes I have a 'Straight to A' and get beat by a mere pair of Q's and a 10 kicker or whatever. (What the hell is a kicker btw?)

So my question is: how can you tell who wins in a round of poker? And if somebody knows I'd like him to explain to me what a 'kicker' is.

Thanks guys. :]

Everyone stop posting all together, if your opinion isn't positive its WRONG.
QFMotherfuckingT.

Plus since when do you get warnings for !@#$% like that? ^^^^ Everyone does it once in a while. >_> Want me to dig up a few recent ones for you?
Whatever.

I'm not gonna lie, I don't care he died. Not anymore than those 5-6 people that die every minute of our lives. I don't see you talking about them.
If he wanted to fake his death I don't see why you should give a !@#$%. Let him do whatever the !@#$% he wants. Jesus, why do people care so much about celebrities anyways?

It's possible to code an entire game in ASM, indeed they are many indie games out there which are just that. They can even be better than games done in C++.

Is there a reason for that other than being able to say, "I wrote this game in ASM, respect, son!"?
Here's a wild guess: the challenge?
Not worth it.

I don't know what the hell you guys are talking about.

Woh woah woah man calm down. >_< You're talking about going online, all by yourself? I think you should stick to a nice little story and keep it personal. This is 3D. :O

Looking pretty sweet though. The environmental stuff looks pretty neat.

Man just buy a damn console and stick to whatever it's got to offer. That said, my Wii's been collecting dust for months now. It's only fun if people come over to play along. >_<

Zelda Projects / Re: The Legend of Zelda : Skulltula's Amulet

Je crois que j'ai déjà vu ce projet quelque part. :)
(no worries everybody didn't insult anyone :p)

The only thing that's attractive to me about this project is the graphics. Very original for a fangame.
Actually I had made a few rendered tilesets a while ago, too. I love how it looks, specially with the textures you applied to them. I love the Link sprite. :D

I think you shouldn't use tiles from the Minish Cap though. Keep it original.

The thing is that the environments set in the games aren't really realistic, it's always got that fantasy feeling to it, you see? You could hardly capture that in real life.

No offence, but I felt like a real nerd watching the trailer.
The idea of making a movie out of a game like Zelda might sound good to some, but in reality, it's just a fanboy's dream. In the games, Link doesn't even talk, so giving him a specific personality in the movie just feels strange and doesn't fit.
The acting didn't look very good either... :P

Feedback / Re: Next Contest
« on: August 14, 2009, 09:18:08 pm »
I think it's a good idea. A few years ago we did a writing comp and it worked pretty well.
Says the future... journalist is it?

Custom items wouldn't be directly added into the engine, so the fact that people code differently wouldn't matter. It's a difference between one engine integrating the different coding styles of many people, and how it would actually be just many people adapting and using one engine code.
Well I guess we could try, but people would just recycle items from other Zelda games. Everytime there's coding involved not many people join. >_< Graphic contests seem to have much more success.

While a story writing contest may have its merits, running it right after a contest that also did not require much skill and didn't have that good of a turnout would probably be a bad idea. I was thinking of having a contest that were a participant would program a custom item/ability for Link in the GM Minish Cap Engine. It'd help get some creative ideas out that people could use in their games before the NCFC and it would get some interest in the Community Project.
Nah man people's codes would never fit together. Nobody codes exactly the same way.

I think it doesn't sound too bad, but right now we should be focusing on Zelda game developpment, since that is what we're all about, after all. :P
It's maybe a bit early though, considering the dungeon contest ended what, 2 days ago?

Just my opinion. That said, I would maybe join. :]

...Who's spamming? O_o  I see nothing but discussion regarding criticism going on in here.  That looks fine to me.
Sorry, you're right, it wasn't spam, but it was off-topic. This isn't a discussion about how people should give criticism, it's about the game.

That said, I'm playing through it right now.

38
Exactly, thus why my criticism is harsh. Many of you just say "yeah it's nice I like this I liked that". Well I'm here to say what's wrong with it so he can make something better next time.

It balances out. :P

But let's stop spamming. >_<

I can't remember the name FF. >_< I did have the problem all over the game though.

My criticism is from the player point of view. Since we're all developpers here, we might be impressed by what others do and sometimes you may like the way he did something and discard the fact that it isn't working properly because you know how hard making things work is.
But the ones who actually are going to play the thing don't have that mentality. :P People are extremely harsh and picky when it comes to controls. There's always something to nag about, and I prefer telling you blunty that this is wrong, this too, etc.

But it could be my computer that's really messed up. :P I redownloaded the game and am going to check it out once more tomorrow.
