Title: Zelda: The Lost Dreams (Put up a test)
Post by: JohnGames on September 29, 2006, 06:44:55 pm
No, this is not going to be a full game! (I get asked that a bit to much)

Here is a nice test file from rotation with mouse (bow and arrow has been removed from this version for a small bug I need to fix)

http://www.johngames.com/games/test0.0.0.6.zip

note: if it is missing a file (which it should not as I tested it) please alert me

extra note: if you see garbage in front of a black blakcground then press enter, I think I forgot to include the font now..

Screen shots are being redone in .png

Today (sunday) I made a small level for a bunch of kids, they enjoyed it but they just liked it for the musac =P and them finding the "pyramid"

I think it's pretty nice, but you should change the movement a bit. Like, when you press right, he moves to right, not rotates.
But so far, it's pretty nice

your absolutly right about rotation, I will attempt to make it more like ww movement (I just realized I forgot the back key XD)

Nice model =) Its nice to see you finally have something new John =)

I cant download the demo today, but I can tomorrow (download limit VERY close - End today).

Edit: Meh, couldnt resist. Nice demo - Camera, Head Movement, all worked like WW's. I also see you use OpenGL - Is it possible to have it run on another OS then?

The model was a steal from windwaker but I improved some aspects of it for computer gaming.

Yes, the engine has pre-built compatibility with apple and Linux if so compiled.  I will, however, be switching to the ogre render engine which will allow directs for windows and openly for other operating systems.

At first I couldn't believe that you're actually using WW-Link as a model! Wow, very nice. I'd love to see more. As for the latest demo, is it possible to do anything for proceeding? (Like, is that a switch back there? That red thing?) - Edit: Nevermind, I figured out to press shift. XD
(Also, the camera is kind of awkward... it should stay behind Link, or at least where it is, and then should be movable by will - with the arrow-keys for example. Maybe this is rather hard to program, but I'd like to see it in the game. :) )

Very nice, my only problem is the camera, the angle gets rather awkward. Maybe you could make it more like the tWW camera?

Nice someone is doing WW style.
Any storyline or lead in( I would prefer a lead in so not to spoil it)

Ah!  I remember this.  I was helping you out, remember? :P

Good luck this time around!  (Although I liked it before it was cel shaded a bit more. ;))

Obsequious Eye and Fox:  I decided to add a post poll for camera movement

Bboy94: A lead in coming soon as devlopment continues
Title: Re: Zelda: The Lost Dreams
Post by: Fox on September 30, 2006, 09:01:07 pm
I can't see the poll, but.. I think you could make it as in GTA, so you move the cam with your mouse (with collision-detection) and also use the mouse-keys for something (e.g. the sword and an item). That'd be sweet.

new test out there for download

edit: ported versions for linux and macosx

First of all, nice choice of music, I like it a lot! :D Second, movement is good, but you shouldn't allow Link to move forward when I'm pressing right or left. Instead, try to make him go to the right direction while playing the forward animation.
It plays well on my Windows XP, not slowdowns whatsoever, good work!

Very nice! I see you have changed the way Link walks, it's now a lot better! Keep it up! You could still work on the camera position, IMO it's too far away from Link, you should place it closer.

Other than that, you should use real Wind Waker textures, I'm in posession of the original textures, but I don't know how to convert them to .png or .tga, I'll just ask cb if he could help with that.

its amazing, the only thing wrong with it is that link is to far away from the camera, other than that, give us a story or somethin, cause this game is lookin good!

All textures are from windwaker since I learned how to "go through" the wind waker game with some success.

linkthemaster:  There is not much of a story.. but I do have a good zelda esque start :-[

Added v 0.0.0.5 WITH arrows ;)

I have tested the game and there is only one bug

When in arrow mode, you can't move down.

Apart from that very good!

I don't like how the walking engine works, because first of all, its a slow walk, and Link should turn around and the camera view swivels back to behind him, more Wind Waker-esque
Title: Re: Zelda: The Lost Dreams (v 5c out!)
Post by: JohnGames on October 04, 2006, 07:48:40 pm
I will consider adapting the camera shortly, this is one of the biggest complaints
Title: Re: Zelda: The Lost Dreams (v 5c out!)
Post by: Uppy on October 04, 2006, 08:03:49 pm
brilliant walking engine, your voice is kinda scary at the end....mainly cos I shot like 20 arrows at the switch and heard cccccccccoooooooonnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaadddd- you get the idea lmfao.
Anyways what program is this being made in. I did notice that some of the walls were slightly away from the terrain, thats my only complaint.
Title: Re: Zelda: The Lost Dreams (v 5c out!)
Post by: JohnGames on October 04, 2006, 08:18:12 pm
ermm, screen shot of away from terrain? If you mean texture flaws then, well you won't notice once the cel shading engine is put in :)

Nice work. I haven't tried the demo yet, but the screenshots look pretty cool. I can't wait to see more. Put in the cel-shading :D!
It's hard to belive you're using those high-poly models in your game... I guess that you've lowered the poly count, though, right?

I'm also making a game using WW models, but I'm using pre-render psuedo-3Dness, and not the high-quality 3D that yours is.

Looks like we'll have a few 3D Zelda fangames at z3 next year... 8).

My name and public address are available due to certain laws....

What bothers me is this is not making alot of sense, there are other topics around that are complete, why not nintendo attack those!  Just becaue I went through resources of wind waker =P

A few wrong things in the email.

The email to you is from the anti piracy department. The anti-piracy department probably only handles things such as rom downloads, etc.

Another thing, it says that you are providing illegal copies of nintendo's games. While you actually are only offering one game. And it's not one Nintendo made.

The email is fake.

No Problem.

This seems a little like it could of easily been made by a game maker who got stuck on his game.

Take at that what you will.

It's far simpler to stop posting and make an alias.

Not really, because then the mods and admins could tell it's your IP.

If you used a proxy, it's usually easy to tell a proxy from an authentic IP.
