Post your favorite video game soundtrack and song, and why.

Mine is Chrono Trigger, by far.

So what! I wanna get out! 'Cos there's so much out there! So many different people, living different lives! Incredibly good guys, bad guys... Folks completely different from us! It's one huge melting pot! See, it's not about success, dying in the streets, who's better, who's not! I just want to be a part of it! I realized that even if I've no connections, no talent, even if I'm one big loser, I want to use my hands and feet to think and move, to shape my own life! We can just die here or we can try, see what we've got!

Halo. Though, some of Halo 3's songs are growing on me. Especially the beta theme.

Golden sun also had quite a few good songs. Especially the Altin Peak mines.

Atelier Iris... all 3 of those game's soundtracks are absolutely amazing, you would be hard-pressed to find better music in a videogame.

Mega Man 3: A lot of people say MM2's music is better or catchier, but I think 3's is better in production, and I had such a fun time with that game.. it was probably the first game I played with music that would get emotional.

Spider-Man & X-Men in Arcade's Revenge (SNES): If you've ever wondered what does a comic book sound like? then give this a listen. Each song is long, like upwards of 5 minutes, and evolves through different themes, plus it's got some stereo organ and wah-wah guitar effects that I haven't heard before or since on the SNES.

Play with SNESamp. :)

Grim Fandango: I could name a whole bunch of LucasArts adventure games with great soundtracks but this one stands out because it's so unique to have jazz / bebop / big band music in a video game. Plus it's all real, not computer-generated. I play this CD in the car sometimes. :D

I don't think any of those games have my favourite game song, just the soundtracks as a whole.

Animal Crossing for Gamecube. Sounds silly, but I find each of the 24 daily tunes to be really catchy. Unfortunately not so much in the DS incarnation.

Also the Pikmin games sounded great music wise, but you could barely hear it over the cries of pain and death.

Hmm... my favorite soundtracks...

- Final Fantasy X: Just beautiful, amazing, and as someone said Nobuo Uematsu is a god.
- Kingdom Hearts 1/2: Disney meets FF style music, and Utada is pretty amazing.
- Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time: Very beautiful arrangements that add a lot to the game itself.

Easily the Xenosaga Ep. 1 soundtrack. The music was composed by Yasunori Mitsuda, who worked along with Nobuo Uematsu on the Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross soundtracks. The music is very emotional, and sounds excellent because it's all performed by the London Philiharmonic.

The Xenogears soundtrack (also composed by Mitsuda) is a close second.

Street Fighter 2 Turbo (Tribute Album).

Is that the 12-track Japanese CD? I've yet to listen to that.
There are a few other remix albums you might like, one by Alph Lyla (the Capcom band) with I think 8 songs, and a free, fan-made collab called Blood on the Asphalt. It's got some awesome raps for Dee Jay and Vega. ;D

Yes, possibly.

"Guile Stage" by Motoaki Furukawa is absolutely excellent. I've already decided to have that song play at my wedding, birth of children and funeral. >_>

The Burnout 2 soundtrack, hands down.

The music's seems fairly generic rock at the start... and fairly appropriate for driving 100+ mph down the wrong side of the road.

Then you hit boost and WOAH. Every thing steps up a notch, extra instrumentals come in, and you can REALLY feel the surge of power you're given. The soundtrack is such a motivator, too - you WANT to keep on boosting so it'll keep on going. Stop boosting and the still fairly intense rock suddenly seems... bland... compared to the surge of pure energy you've just been subjected to.
