Title: A Call for Progress
Post by: Raen on July 14, 2009, 06:11:21 pm
So, as most of you know, NCFC 2009 is coming up soon.

I was looking at the forums on the website for NCFC (http://www.nintendocfc.com/), and it looks like MFGG (a Mario fan game community, and hosts of this event, I believe) will be releasing a demo of their community project, and it's looking pretty good.

I don't know about you guys, but I think we have some really, really talented people here, and this community project could become something really, really awesome. I think it would be awesome to have something to show with this community project at NCFC, which will be held at the end of October.

So, here's what I'm asking for: We need some organization. We need to do some work, and get this project off the ground.

By October? Hm, originally our CP was Link's Awakening MC. However, the staff has not updated with the engine in a while, probably due to having lives. I myself am a pretty good graphic artist and already have resources for a LTTP styled Link's Awakening. I do use Multimedia Fusion 2, but if it's for a community project that will actually be worked on then I'll haul butt.

Well there was also the request that we rip the resources from MC first, but people seem to like that less and it has stalled there.

I want to try doing SOMETHING. Basically, I want some staff to step up and take charge of a community project that will get finished.

Well you could start ripping tiles. This is what I've done already: http://home.student.utwente.nl/n.j.hoeijmakers/MCMaps/

Like I said, the staff is a bit busy with their own lives. Hence why this hasn't been updated and why the Weekly hasn't been going on. But we don't NEED the staff for this. Here's what we need.

1. Decision on the style. Go with majority, and keep debates short.
2. Planning. We're not making an entire game at first; we're making a demo.
3. Game Maker programmers. Judging by the amount of work needed, just one or two might do.
4. Graphics rip. LttP is abundant in terms of rips. For MC we can use Xfixium and Niek's tiles. It's just a demo.

5. Cooperation. The hardest part is starting. Maintaining is easier but still hard.

My particular specialty is mapping. Once I have proper tiles, I can blaze through the mapping process.

Same with me.

Even though there isn't really a good plan yet, I'll open up the Minish Cap Engine board to regular members so that you can see some of the stuff I was working on and the thought process the team had - some posts might be deleted from the board that were meant to be private.

It's basically an improved Goodnight Link movement engine that evolved from a way to draw Link in pieces to not worrying about it and focusing on ice movement.

I've ripped a whole set of MC woods tiles from niek's maps. I would do the others when I get time.

The reason why this is still at a halt is because the more talented people here, people who can actually get somewhere in a short time, do not use GM, which is what we chose ( D': ).

I would say contact 4Sword and look at this board for details on the engine: http://www.zfgc.com/forum/index.php?board=305.0
