How is rap not music? I understand I said that Soulja Boy isn't music, but that's just because he's a repetitve idiot.
Rap has so much meaning to it... well, good Rap at least. It has much more meaning that "shredding" on guitars and yelling into a microphone.
Most of these dedicated artists sit down, take time, and write lyrics that actually make sense and that a lot of people can relate to.
Example, Tupac, he's a lyrical genius. His lyrics were not only deep, but had great meanings. Sure he had songs that talked about killing cops and so on, but that's his feelings against them, he just doesn't like them.

Personally I don't consider rap to be music because they're not really singing. They're talking, and they somehow seem to have the same generic drum loop. Boring. Not to mention that music is meant to make people want to dance. I view rappers as people without the diligence to actually learn to sing. It's sad really.

Rap is music, there is no room for debate. Music is a clearly defined thing, not "whatever fanu thinks it is".
If anything, you are listening to the wrong rap-- and you clearly are not giving it a fair chance.
