Other Discussion / Who here speaks French / German?
« on: July 19, 2008, 07:14:50 pm »
I need someone fluent with the vocab of webdesign etc. I've done a draft copy in French which can do with a proof-read....but I'm sure a native could do a better job.

Get in touch and I'll show you the stuff.

a "video splitter"...

like, something that allows me to split a video-image in half across the screen, then paste another video on the other half of the screen...so as to create something like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyEbVbiSQ34

Thanks.

Debates / Laïcité / separation of state + religion
« on: June 22, 2007, 12:14:24 pm »
What do you guys think of this? It is a very important part of the French way of life, where it is known as la Laïcité, and it's the same in USA right? One form of this principal is no religious symbols are allowed in schools.

In England we've been more tolerant of such things but it seems things are slowly going to change...Do you think the rule of no students being allowed to wear religious symbols on them in state schools is a good one? or what?

some stimulus if you need it:

Other Discussion / French help?
« on: May 04, 2007, 06:58:56 pm »
I'm applying for a job in France, thus I need to submit a French CV. It's a pretty important document, so naturally I'd want it checked and void of errors. Are there any native French-speakers here? Get in touch and I'll send you the CV.

Merci :D

Other Discussion / UrbEx - the latest craze
« on: April 14, 2007, 04:21:35 pm »
I don't know how many of you guys are familiar with this hobby, UrbEx, or Urban Exploration, to give it its full name, but it's seeming to really take off here in the UK, and it's damn fun. If you don't know what it is, it's basically trying to get to places where people would never normally go, that is to say, for example, old-abandoned buildings, or on rooftops. Or as www.28dayslater.co.uk says:

Quote
I personally believe that it is the exploring of abandoned buildings of which the public has forgotten or wish to forget. It also refers to the exploring of the Urban Landscape around you whether it be the Drains below your feet or the Tower Cranes above your head. There is also Infiltration which is the exploring of live or active sites.

What Urban Exploration and Infiltration are all about is learning to appreciate your surroundings and the buildings and structures around you and seeing beauty in places where many people will not. It is also about gaining access to these places in order to document, photograph, film or just explore these places.

Anyway, now you know what it is, I thought I'd show you my first UrbEx venture :P Thursday night we climbed the tallest building in my town, Jumbo Water Tower:

This was our view from the top:

That's what we were looking over, the Highstreet.

It was quite a rush, especially when we heard police sirens half way through haha. I'll be moving on to bigger things soon for sure :D

so does anyone else here do it? dan maybe?

Entertainment / Is it just me or...
« on: January 29, 2007, 04:57:43 pm »
Yeh, TP was probably one of the biggest anti-climaxes ever. For one thing, the game had amazing cinematic potential, but the music ruined it every time. Seriously, the music in this game is utter SHITE. It's circus music, at best - and they put that together with something truly epic. I'm usually one for juxtaposition, but...omg, they seriously ruined some of the best moments that could have ever graced the Zelda series. I'm mainly talking about the bosses here, some great ideas that get totally trampled on by this joke of a soundtrack.

The other thing is that it's way too easy (boss fights, omg), and is over before the story can truly be told. To me it seems like they spent forever introducing the story, then it's as if they got rushed to squash the main plot and conclusion all into an extremely small part of the game.

Games suck these days.

Other Discussion / How lucky am I?! :O
« on: September 20, 2006, 03:54:02 pm »
Yarr, for today when I was on my lunch break, I went for a walk around town, and lo and behold...I spied with my little eye a ??20 (like $37) note on the floor, on top of a drain! There was a slight gust of wind, and I saw it catch the note. It started to move, and it slowly edged towards the gap between the bars of the drain...I exclaimed OMFG and dived towards the drain, and got the ??20 note...Result.

Then, ofcourse, I spent the rest of the day looking for the rightful owner of this large sum of money, hoping to return it to them.

...

Not.

Other Discussion / Should I save the fly?
« on: July 24, 2006, 06:21:48 pm »
Haha this fly just flew into a spiders web in the corner of my window, it's buzzing like crazy as it tries to escape - but to no avail.

The spider keeps hitting it or something with its legs. It's pretty fun to watch haha. don't normally get to see stuff like this.

So what would be the morally right thing to do? :P Free the fly or let it die.
