Hey all! I know the majority uses GM, but I just wanted to ask for opinions. What would be better for making a Zelda game? (If you have never used MMF2 before, don't say GM ftw. Just say not sure, or what you think are GM's highest pros)

Thanks!

Game Maker's more flexible as it allows an entire game to be built off of script.

MMF2 - I have to say it feels wierd and clunky after GM.
GM - not really that great, but I started with it.

It's probably better to learn a proper language, such as C#/C++ etc, but if like me you just have a lazy attitude to programming and want fast results, you might as well go with GM.

I prefer GM to anything else I've tried(especially since you don't have to buy it to use it at all. The Games Factory's so-called trial doesn't let you do anything >:(). Also, I prefer version 5.3A of GM. XD For one thing, it's compatible with some of my essential game engines, which would be a !@#$% to rewrite(GM6 is backwards compatible, my ass). I've found GM easier to use than anything else, even though getting it to do everything I want is a bit difficult. :D

If you're wondering about the I'm Sorry, that's aimed at TFW2005, for all the good it does.

Collided Worlds on indefinite hiatus due to being in need of heavy rewrites. I am instead working on some smaller crossovers, such as a My Little Pony and Power Rangers crossover.

C# is very much like GML so if you're good at GML you can learn C# without much problems, MFF2 is very weird and point+click is not always a good option while it can make a game it sucks at rpgs.

MFF2 is an excuse for a program.

Of course, I prefer GM. You can pretty much do anything you want in it. It has downsides in two main areas: security and speed. I doubt you'll be creating the next Crysis, though, so for hobbyist Zelda games, I really think GM is the best deal.

... Well it's obvious the person knows the program, though MMF2 seems a good substitute if you know how to use it... it's picky><

MMF2 , in my experiences, is easier to manipulate at the lower stages in your knowledge of it.(ie beginner and intermediate).  If you really want to take it to the next level then you have to do what most advanced MMF2 users do and download the C++ extension for it.

The other cool thing about MMF2 is all the extensions you can get.
~ mode7 , ~online multiplayer are some of the cooler ones(I can't recall all friggin 50 of them at the moment.

Things like alpha channels, transparencies, etc are all changed via the poperties of the objects as well.  You don't have to code them.

MMF2 just is great for beginners that want good eye-candy in like 3 minutes if they have never programmed before.
However, Gamemaker is the better choice since it has GML and is easier to code with.
It also has the better manual as well.  MMF2's manual is like("Your First Game")  breakout.  With the most basic functions...lol and that's all.

C++ with DirectX 10
C# with XNA

I could go on, if you want.

There's such a double standard about religion in the modern world. Catholics can gather, wear white robes, and say "In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti" and be considered normal.

But if my friends and I gather, wear black robes, and say  "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn", we're considered cultists.

You forget to mention that while  MMF2 sticks with Mode 7... GM users can create games with 3d worlds and models.

I could go on, if you want.

If you don''t want to pick a C language, then I would suggest Blitzmax.
