As the title states: What CD release are you most looking forward to this year, and which CD that has already been released this year is your favorite?

I'm most looking forward to Millencolin's "Machine 15" which will be out (in the US) on May 6th, I believe. Also, my favorite release so far this year will have to be Our Last Night's "The Ghosts Among Us." (No, it's not just because their bassist is my cousin... it's actually a great album if you don't mind screamo)

I don't know if this is the right place to put this, or if there's an advertising section, but meh.

I've been writing songs on my own lately, besides my band's stuff. It's more acoustic and alternative rock... you might say otherwise, but that's how I describe it.

MySpace page
PureVolume page

Give it a listen and tell me what you think. :)

EDIT: QK remastered "Come Back Down To Earth" and I uploaded it to my PureVolume page, but not to MySpace just yet. I'll have it on MySpace by later tonight.

Other Discussion / XP or Vista?
« on: November 08, 2007, 10:41:43 pm »
I just felt like seeing what the community thinks...

I like XP Home and Vista Home Premium. Vista really isn't that bad. The only problem I've encountered with it so far is that my trusty TASCAM US-122 won't install on Vista, which means I need to either get my XP laptop fixed (again <_< ), use the hard-drive solution mentioned in an earlier topic, or get a new interface... (but hey, I can get a Firewire one this time XD)

Entertainment / A song of mine...
« on: November 06, 2007, 01:31:32 am »
I think I might have posted this song before, but this version is a lot better. My dad played bass... and made my band's bassist look bad (he's really not though...)

The song's on my band's MySpace page... www.myspace.com/chemicallybound93 (I tried uploading it to a host and it wouldn't work...)

Tell me what you think. :)

Entertainment / Mixfest 2007 in Boston
« on: September 30, 2007, 04:39:11 pm »
For those who don't live in this area, Mixfest is a concert run by a local radio station. There were some awesome artists that played here - three opening ones and two major ones. Anyway, I just wanted to review the concert, because I'm bored. I can tell you right off, though, that I left the concert with a very raspy voice from all the screaming. Heck, my mom didn't even get her voice killed as much as I killed mine xD

Blue October - This band was, in my opinion, the best out of the first three performers. I remember hearing one of their songs on my uncle's MySpace, but I don't remember the name of the song. They have an excellent drummer, excellent guitar players... They even have a violin player which sounded great when all of the other instruments were quieted down.

Colbie Caillat - One of the top listened-to artists on MySpace. The only female performer the whole night, and she was great. I absolutely loved her singing voice, and her accompanying band did an excellent job holding the entire performance together.

Mat Kearney - My first time hearing this artist. He was good, however I didn't quite like his music as much as the others. Another thing, he was louder than the others, especially the vocal.

And then for the performers that everyone went to see:

Daughtry - F*cking AWESOME! If you were here, you would agree with me: They sound a lot better live than they do on their album, which is great by itself. They had to play "What I Want" without Slash on guitar, of course, but they still were probably the best band to play last night.

Matchbox Twenty - I've seen these guys live in the past, at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH. They did just as well this time as they did when I saw them five years ago. This was their first show in a long time, since they split up so Rob Thomas could do his solo record. One thing I noticed, though - and Rob pointed it out as well - their drummer now plays guitar, and they have a new drummer. I think that the ex-drummer does a great job playing guitar. They did a great job playing, and I hope I get to see them live yet again sometime.

Yeah, so every artist rocked out. Some better than others, but so what? If you had gone, it would've been well worth it.

Now for a question similar to those I always add in at the end of most topics: Did anyone else happen to go to this?

Entertainment / My cousin's band just got signed to Epitaph Records...

I was going to the Epitaph page to check out Millencolin's artist page, when I found this...

OUR LAST NIGHT SIGNS WITH EPITAPH RECORDS

Epitaph Records is proud to announce the signing of New Hampshire based rock/hardcore/screamo group Our Last Night. Having just begun to make a name for themselves throughout the east coast, the group is planning to expand their horizons this spring with the release of their debut album on Epitaph.

Inspired by hardcore and metal, Our Last Night delivers an onslaught of taut thrashing riffs and intense hardcore breakdowns that meld got signed to a major record label such as Epitaph.perfectly with lush melodic landscapes and soaring, irresistibly catchy choruses. Sharp technical precision meets raw inspiration on songs like the addictive "Escape" which is currently streaming here.

Our Last Night, which consists of Trevor Wentworth (growls), Matt Wentworth (guitar, melodic vocals), Alex "Woody" Woodrow (bass), Colin Perry (guitar) and Tim Molloy (drums), was formed in 2004 by childhood friends who were fed up with merely jamming and playing cover songs. With only a few live performances under their belt, Our Last Night entered the studio shortly afterwards to record their first EP, We've Been Holding Back. Vigorous live performances helped the band earn respect and fans throughout the New England area and by 2005 they entered the studio to record their next EP, Building Cities From Scratch. In the summer of 2007, after being impressed by their self-made demos, owner and president of Epitaph Records, Brett Gurewitz, came calling and invited the band to join the label.

"From the very first note of the demo I was blown away by the sophistication of their writing and the technical playing which belies their young age," said Gurewitz. "Add to that the control and range of Matt's stellar singing voice and I was sold."

Currently meeting with producers and writing new songs, Our Last Night plans to debut their first full length album in spring of 2008. The group joins Epitaph's impressive roster which includes such hard-hitting bands as Gallows, Vanna, Parkway Drive and Escape The Fate.

Alex Woodrow is my cousin. Looks like I'm not going to see him that much anymore, but hey, he's gonna be famous! I feel like the happiest cousin alive right now ^_^

Anyway, if you're into hardcore/metal, listen to the song they have there ("Escape"). You'll like it for sure. ;)

Entertainment / Do you like to replay a game once beaten?
« on: August 09, 2007, 03:08:27 pm »
Title, I just wanted to know.

I like to replay them, a lot of games have a good replay value. I've beaten Minish Cap at least 6 times, for example.

But the thing is, in OoT, I can remember how to beat every dungeon up until the Water Temple, then I blank out >_<

Entertainment / Which album's release are you looking forward to?
« on: July 15, 2007, 08:44:20 pm »
Title. There seem to be a bunch of albums coming out lately that seem very promising.

The one I'm looking forward to is coming out in two days. Yellowcard - "Paper Walls." I listened to several songs from it that they had on their MySpace, including the first single "Light Up The Sky", and it's definitely going to be the best Yellowcard album ever.

Entertainment / New Guitar!!!
« on: July 09, 2007, 01:18:45 am »
Yep, I got a red Ovation Celebrity CS257 guitar last Monday. Really nice, has a built-in tuner, sounds nice, etc. It's quite an improvement from my Martin Backpacker, the notes don't go sharp or flat as I go up the neck, and it's got mid-shift and pre-shape settings, so the sound is kick@$$. Awesome.

Entertainment / Guitar players, what kind of setup do you use?
« on: July 03, 2007, 02:46:22 am »
Title. Just state what your guitar rig is. (And if this is, for some reason, the wrong section... well, this is music related, so I don't know why this would be the wrong section)

My electric setup is a black Epiphone Les Paul Special II guitar, a Crate GTD15 amplifier, a Boss Metal Zone distortion pedal, a Danelectro FAB flanger pedal, a DigiTech digital delay pedal, a Yamaha Rex50 effects module (which I rarely use), a Fender tuner, and several cables.

My acoustic setup is a red Ovation Celebrity acoustic/electric guitar (that I just got today ^_^), which conveniently has a built in tuner. And if I'm not using that guitar, I have a Martin Backpacker.

Coding / Help in HTML
« on: June 28, 2007, 12:49:02 am »
Okay, I'm actually using Dreamweaver, but since that has an HTML editor as well as a hands-on page editor, you can just tell me how to do it in HTML if you don't know how to just do it in DW, but you may need to be really specific as I'm nowhere near being an expert in HTML.

What I need to know is how to center the layout without the text in each div tag (or Dreamweaver's "layers" - I don't know if they're exactly the same thing) going out of place. Could I put everything in a new layer or do I have to do something more complicated?

Thanks in advance.

Entertainment / Favorite 90's song?
« on: June 23, 2007, 05:34:53 pm »
As the title states, post what your favorite song from the 90's is.

I'm debating between three. Either "If You Could Only See" by Tonic, "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)" by Green Day, or "Bullion" by Millencolin.

Entertainment / Post here if you get a new CD

Title ;) There's something like this on Gaming Central (for new games), so I figured, even though it might not be made sticky, why not start one here just for the heck of it?

To kick it off, I just bought "Come What(ever) May" by Stone Sour.

Coding / For programming a bomb...
« on: March 17, 2007, 11:44:32 pm »
I figured out in two seconds how to do this if it's right, I just need to know if the sequence for this is right. This may not be how you all do it, but I'm lazy, so I'm just looking for a way to do it that will actually work...

I'll use a bomb sprite. Then I'll create a timeline for the bomb, and have the steps include recoloring the sprite flashing red. Then, on the explosion step, I have it destroy the non-exploded bomb, create the exploding bomb object, and have it destroy/harm all enemies nearby, and take off a couple of hearts if Link gets hit.

Is that a correct bomb engine sequence?

Recruitment / Recruiting for TLoZ: The Lost Kingdom
« on: March 17, 2007, 06:43:55 pm »
Yes, here we go again... I now need help for The Legend Of Zelda: The Lost Kingdom. I know I've given it up twice, but I really want to eventually go through with it, whether I take another huge break or not.

I'm doing it in GBC graphics this time, not MC, to reduce complications with spriting, and hopefully programming as well. There will be 5 or 6 dungeons, and not so big an overworld, just one that's of tough-but-fair difficulty and a good size.

Here's what I'll need. Not much, at least one of each of the following:

Programming Assistant (I'm not intending to make you program it all by yourself, although you still can if you want to. I just need someone to turn to if I need help.)

Dungeon Designer (Again, you don't have to do them all. We'll split them, I will do two or three and then you can do the others ;) )

Overworld Designer (I'll probably draw out where I'd like the areas to be, and then we'll split the job of designing the areas)

Although I only need one of each, more help will be gratefully accepted. You can't go wrong with more help, right? ^_^

To all who decide to take these jobs, you do not need to rush into it right away. If I need something, I will let you know.

Thanks in advance.
