Title: [Completed] LoZ: The Final Challenge
Post by: Atrius on May 29, 2006, 08:55:42 pm
In July 2005, the old Zelda Fan Game Central offered a competition to create a game in two weeks. Enter Team Kousou, and three weeks later, we came out with this:

In the Legend of Zelda: The Final Challenge, you have a choice of four characters, each with unique puzzles spread out over four seperate dungeons.

Production Team
Atrius - Main Programmer
Master K - Level Design
Mit - Programmer, Level Design, Planning

Video
We got quite a nice reaction to this video when we released it.
Legend of Zelda: The Final Challenge Teaser (http://www.kousougames.co.uk/games/trailers/LoZ_TFC_teaser.zip)

Download it Here (http://www.kousougames.co.uk/data/downloads/counter.php?file=LoZ_TFC)

You have to keep in mind that it was done in quite a small time frame, so its a bit... Unpolished.

Yeah... heh heh, I still remember talking to Mit about how many spikes & fires he put in the levels...  People still say theres a lot but it's probably less than 1/3rd of what was originally there, and somehow there are still some glitches in the game that I remembered fixing >:(

As for the music, probably not, but meh  ::)

Hard to say, its been so long.  I like playing as the Deku because of his abilities, but boss fights are hard because he's so weak, where as the Goron has the strongest attack.

The link is toward the very bottom of the first post in large, bold letters.

And I kinda agree about the Goron sprites, but we didn't really have the time to fix them.

This was for a contest to see who could make the best Zelda fan game in 3 (2 originally) weeks.  This game will remain unchanged from it's original version.

It was definitely one of the greater games of the competition. The ability to change Link's form was excellent, and you did things very well. An awesome job, I must say.

I got an error when I was putting in my name after choosing a character and I had to abort. :(

What was wrong?

Nevermind, all I had to do was press Ignore.

But I'm like, stuck in the second room in that weird temple. o.O I don't know what to do. I must shoot that eye, and there's a block I can move in there too.. Can anyone help? :E

Haha, nevermind again, the guy said "your arrows will bounce on hard stuff" and I tried on the block. :)

What was it?

Sometimes it has trouble creating the save file if you haven't extracted the exe file.

Hey, how did you get there?  Is it the old glitch where if you fall down a pit you sometimes end up outside of the room that I thought I had fixed... twice.

Yeah, it is pretty hard, but believe it or not, there used to be a lot more spikes & flames in the dungeons... a LOT more.

Yep, your right! so, you tried twice to fix it but it just hates you? the spikes keep killing me!! which isn't fun. Any how i still think its a great game!

Heh... I'd say you could yell at the main level designer *cough*Mit*cough*, but just so you know, it's chizzeled in gigantic bold, underlined words "Much Less/No Spikes" on our suggestions/ideas for future games.  Hmm... *Double Underlines it*

As for the error, I think at one point or more we got an older version of the editable mixed up with the new one, so my fix was lost >_<;

Ah, thats something with the save system I think...

If you go into the program folder and delete the file loz_tfc.sav if it exists, it may work...  Of course if you have any saved games thats what you'll be deleting.

XD, yeah, I just beat it again with the goron.  I must say there are so many things in that game that left me thinking "what kind of a dumb idea was that?" Including nearly the entire last dungeon, and boss definitally.  >_< When I did finally beat the boss I could only think "My god, thats all they get for beating him?"... Though the music in the credits definitally made me feel better about it, its a nice choice.  Was it the LA credit music or something like that?

Anyway... replaying it makes me almost reconsider doing a remake of it...  it does beg for a sequal, and could use some fixing up.

Oh well... We've got Just Begining to worry about, so no time for a remake of this.   :'(

If I remember correctly, it was the music to Tal-Tal heights in LA. Great tune, although slightly over-the-top for just a mountain.

Don't forget my complete waste of time on the dark temples! We should release a debug version that lets you get into them, just for a laugh.
