Anyone else seen this?
It's the first movie, I've not understood a single part of, but still loved it to pieces :3

That is a great movie, and portrays the book quite well. If you didn't know, the character Johnny Depp plays is actually Hunter S. Thompson, the author of the book it's based on. And it's basically a classic at my brother's house.actually saved him while he was shroomin' once

The real Hunter S. had a cameo in the film.

Details. Partly because I'm curious, and partly because I want to show my bro something he didn't know about one of his favorite movies (hopefully he doesn't already know this).

You can see the real Hunter S. Thompson in the flashback scene [1965 San Francisco] where Duke is in the crowd at a Jefferson Airplane show and he utters the words "I recall one night in a place called the Matrix. There I was - Mother of God! There I am." The old man sitting down with the lighter in his hand that Duke [Johnny Depp] looks over at is Hunter.

I love this movie! I own the Criterion Collection version (I highly recommend it.) Ahhh, the memories!

I actually just watched this movie for the first time about a week ago at my brothers recommendation, except he kinda just said "we are watching this now" after seeing it at my friends place. I wasn't expecting it to be as funny as it was, for some reason I figured it would be a bit more serious.

One of my favorite parts was the part you just mentioned shanech:
Quote from: Raoul Duke
"I recall one night in a place called the Matrix. There I was... Mother of God! There I am."
that and
Quote from: Raoul Duke
"What? No. We can't stop here. This is bat country. "

I thought it was pretty cool seeing Penn and Teller make an appearance too.

I think I might go watch it again later now.

Apparently I'm a complete idiot, because when I brought up Hunter S. Thompson's cameo, he basically told me, "Duh!" so yeah. Still, a great movie.
