Title: LoZ: Twin Moons (R-I-P)
Post by: DeathTailsz on July 13, 2008, 08:14:20 am
LEGEND OF ZELDA

Storyline:
When Link was a baby, he lived in Hyrule Town, but, on that one day, a war broke out with Hyrule Town, and lesser  Hyrule Town. (Which is home to the finest bombs)  The Women and children fled from Hyrule Castle gates, Link's Mother was heavily wounded on her leg, as she rode her husbands (May he Rest in Piece, since he died) horse to the east, over the long bridge the bordered Kakariko, and Hyrule Town, (Sorta like Twilight Princess.) once they made it into the village, the horse stepped slowly to the Inn, (Like the Kakariko in LTTP, just different) as she walked in, the Inn keeper saw her wounded on her right leg, and helped her to her room, free of charge.
Link's Mom was bedded for awhile, the Inn Keeper would check up on her frequently, to help her out with Baby Link.  Weeks later passed by, months flew in the wind, and years hastened since that unfaithful day.
Taking place years later in Kakariko Village, Link walks around town, looking for stuff to do while his Mother prepares something for his 14th birthday, when suddenly, Link was jacked from his Rupee's, that he got from the Inn Keeper's wife for his birthday, without thinking, Link made quick and fast pace, and chased after the fleeing thief.

Controlls:
Right, Left, Up, Down: Moves Link.
Z: Sword
Enter: Action Button
Space: Speeds/Exits/Continues text.
X: Item. (When equipt)
C: Nothing Yet.

Demo (V.0.3): (Currently dead, may be resumed sometime.)

Vista User notice:
Since YoYogames is being stupid and not excepting my serial number for my GM6, i'm forced to stick with it, other then that, I will convert the game to make it Vista compatible.  So, no need to go all :( or something.

You really need that sword, do yeah, Link?  Uh oh, spelling error!  Gottah fix it!

I think that's obvious, due to the broken stairs to the right of you...

Omg, he stole my Rupee's!  RAID!

Bump of Updatation!

I got the text boxes to work, yay me! (Thanks to Mitxela's tutorial.)
Use of GoodNights walking engine, probably no modifications til later.
Controll Scheme change, instead using the normal Zelda Formula.
Tileset: ZFGC Style, (Stylish, indeed.)
Link: A more... Darkened version of Link. (Attached to this post.)

Tidbit:
Instead of using a Menu Screen, you can switch out your weapons by pressing 1-0 on the Numeric Buttons. (No, not the Numpad.)

Update 2:
Ability to pick up pots is now done!
Screenshots in-game are now avalible.
Game looks mighty better in Full screen, then windowed.

Soon, I will conquer the World with this Fangame! Mua-  I mean, I'm almost ready to release a test demo, with the two cutscenes, controlls, using Wooden sword, and Hearts to be added.

Edit: May a mod or someone move this topic to the WIP section?  Please, and thank you!

Edit 2: Thanks Domo.

It happens to the best of us, I guess.

But anyways, don't wanna let this post go blank, so i'll add a small update:
Title screen!  In it's glory!
And a Zelda not-so-Registration.

Looking good so far, it's a shame people haven't been helping with zfgc style coz it looks so nice
and make sure to look through the ZFGC style thread, there's tons of stuff not in the first post, eg:

Looking forward to more, good luck  :)

Seems interesting enough. The story actually seems partially original, just make sure to not have the exact same setting as every other Zelda game, and you might make it.

I personally think that Link should not talk...

I think there should be some sort of quest companion (midna, navi, tatl, ezlo (elzo? dont remember) etc.) to tell him things like "We need to get a sword" or "HEY @$%#'IN LISTEN!"

It is up to you to decide whether it is a spoon or a fork.... (or something else)

I agree, ZFGC Style looked so great, but, it has fallen, just like the lady from Fatal Frame 2, from the 2nd floor. xD
Thanks for the monster sheet, it looks nice, and hopefully, I finish it.  (Reminder: I actually "Write" the storyline out before I start working on it. xD)
The sprites will come in handy. :)

Why, thanks.  I don't wanna make it based off OoT, LTTP, AW, and so on, and I like the fact that Link can Talk, it gives out more character, I will edit the main Storyline as I go along, but, I won't post Spoilers of whats to come.

That's what I want to seperate between the actual game, and my fan game, I like the fact that Link can talk, gives him more Character Development, and people (Well, the NPC's) just don't go, "Oh, your name is Link?" and blah blah blah.

So, yes, i'm keeping Link's ability to talk to other people, and the fact that he can think for himself. :P

That's a lot of updates though, you seem to be truckin through this game. I just hope the lack of available sprites won't hinder your progress.

Looks pretty good, although perhaps a little graphically bland.

And by bland I mean there looks like a lot of "open space".

...Good work so far, though.

Here's the list:

I swear, 95% of this topic is going to be me updating, to the point it's not even funny.
(Sorry for the triple post, but, I wanted to add alot of updates.)
Additional Updates:
wanna say that this stuff is more of the EXCLUSIVE items and such to my Fan Game.

First with the non Exclusives:
Bushes now drop Rupee's and Hearts.
You can now get hurt from enemies.
You can now DIE from enemies
I created Keese, that fly around the place. (Goes in no specific order in which they fly in.)

Now with the Exclusives.  (Note: These aren't programmed in yet, they're more like suggestions for the game, that I want everyones opiniun on..)
And that's all I have planned, the Sword Coding will be EASY, Bonus Games will be down on the bottom of my Prior list.

Probably add a Item Dictonary, so people can get the items they need for Upgrading...

So, here's the Prior list, top being top priority, bottom being least:

Of course!  I think Link would get more Character development, then if he didn't.

(And that the NPC's didn't stand there for 5 seconds and say Link's name. XDDD)

In the history of Zelda games, Link only had story development, like that he's the Hero of Time, and such.  But, lacks his Character Development, people overlook this fact easily, but, oh well, doesn't make Legend of Zelda bad. xD

Thanks, I can't wait to post the demo.  After I finish this:  Link get's his rupee's stolen cinematic.  Then you can get your hands on some sweet pwnage.  Of killing Keese. (Registration Screen won't be used until Demo 2.)  Teketies are going t be abit hard to program, but, I have a general idea of what to do. =D

But yes, you start off with a

Diffirent from all Zelda games.

Storyline so far:
After that, Link leaves to go to Helen, to take advanced Sword Lessons, but someone pickpockets Link, and heads to Death Mountian.

Some of the foreground-BG's need some work. When going to the upper right house on the map,
the hud gets behind the house  :o Also, sometimes you can see Links feet stick out of some foreground-Backgrounds.

Nice demo though, the style is very smooth and the MC-Style Link fits good with custom ZFGC style.

Edit: Also LOL at Link swearing  XD

Good luck with it  ;)

I thoroughly enjoyed this, the engine was smooth and it looked lovely. Just a few things...
1) The HUD disappeared behind some things
2) Links green seems a bit sharp compared to the ZFGC style.
3) Things like the stairs and the doorways inside the house don't look finished, they just look cut out.

But those are all aesthetic, the game itself was really good.

Lawl, if you've played Silent Hill 2, you'll get what I meant by "Wooden Plank"
Good luck with it  ;)
(Red parts are by me.)
Anyways, yeah, there are a few, "Depth" problems with the game, mainly the HUD, how I can fix the hud is beyond my control, unless someone can help me with it.

1) I don't know how to exactly fix the depth problem.
2) I don't see to much, it's probably due to my edit, although, i'm going to change Link back to his original colours.
3)I still haven't finished it, but, i'll get cracking on it.

Thanks, the game is also featured on the Games>WIP area, that's where i'll put the download to the game from now on, my website is for an alternate way to download it, but, I don't think we'll be needing it.

EDIT: Zelda API may be added to the game, maybe

*Alarm goes off* "Ugn... What?  Summer time already and I have to atleast start a decent game project cause I sorta died sometime this year?  Awesz..."

Anyways, I've actually been working on this game. (Oh noez, progress, also, I got an Xbox 360...  If that's news to anyone. v_v)

Anyways, I've been changing Links sprites and sorta been trying to make the land less blander and doing a lot of... stuff...?

So, only two updates right now...

I just found the GMD, so I could start working on it...

I also got GM7, so I can take the GM Converter off of my game in the hub...

Umm, Huzzah?

Some new things to add to the table that spins right round,
- Text Engine (Finally, made my own, changes it's color)
- Link's sprites have been changed again, this time to PureMinish, instead of darkened one. (Goes best with the ZFGC tiles)
Also, one glitch that was fixed:
- HUD has it's own object, to avoid depth problems with it. (Thanks to Ploupa and SlimmyG for finding this)

I have a question, since no one has commented on how the HUD looks, what do you think of the Item Holder and the Text Box?  I made them from scratch, so I'd really appreciate the feed back.

(Edit: Feel free to download them, I'm placing them in the resources area anyways, please do not claim as your own, credit is not need, but would be nice.)

I ran your demo and it looks really good, but I found two glitches, besides the earlier mentioned glitch of the HUD.

- 1.png shows Link partially over above the wall. Something went wrong with the door I think.
- 2.png shows Link standing on a house. Also a collision detection error.

About the HUD. It would have been nice if you added a preview or mock-up. The message box boundary looks good, but as 3.png shows the text is difficult visible, due to the game shining through. The text box needs a monocolor (semitransparent) background. In this case black or dark grey would be the best.

Also the item of the sword looks really strange in the upper right corner and is difficult to see. If you lay a button that shows which key to press behind the sword it would be better. Any other buttons used would also be nice to show.

The itembox I don't know. I need to see an item in it.

Oh, thanks for finding these. o.o
1. I've noticed this a few times, I'll try and fix it.
2. Oh, wow, I didn't realize this one, either.
3. I'll try and create a semitrans box, but, for now it will be a solid black colour.

Oh, that was a test for the menu system for your items... (Although, there was no background for it yet, since most of the HUD is green, I'm currently sketching out the menu for your main items, equipment and so on.)

Anyways, the maps are sorta being redesigned, so the current village will be remodeled.

Small update folks.
Since I have .wav files and .mid/i files, I want to use both of them, but I don't want to incress the game.exe file size. (Dear god that'd be terrible if it got over 20mbs due to music and the loading times were about 4mins)

So, here's the update:
- .mid and .wav files are external, the game is automatically set to .mid music, but, you can change the music score to .wav, or to none (Yay, I can listen to different music, sweet!)
- Story change, I'm currently making the dream area (OMG, foreshadowing for a future dungeon!)
which involves Link going through part of it, with a sword and stuff, and (Spoilers alert, please do not spoil it for yourself if your looking for a "Plot twist.")
Show content
touches one of the Moon Shards and is engulfed by darkness.

I should have screenshots later tonight, if not, afternoon tomorrow.

Edit: No absolute paths, since I know how to set short paths. (Usually uses the .\ stuff, so it finds the music file under where the game is, then goes into the file music, then plays the file.)
