Feedback / Disabling ZFGC News Emails?
« on: November 25, 2012, 02:36:07 am »
Sooo, I still lurk around ZFGC every few months or so, but I don't really care to receive an email update everytime the forums go down, pop back up, crash, come back, die, get revived, ect.

In the news emails, it states that I can pop into my profile settings and turn off news/admin emails, but I see this option nowhere. The only thing regarding emails that I can find is:

"Email Address: ________________
(This must be a valid email address)
Allow users to email me [ ]"

And somewhere else it lets me turn off email notifications for PMs.
Nowhere does it allow me to turn of news announcement emails, as far as I can see.

I don't believe I've posted this here before, but anyway I've been into knife throwing as a hobby for almost a year now. I have a few videos of it up that I wanted to share. Just put a new one up yesterday also.

Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFcLT-gFInk

At the end of the video you can click on links to my other montages and vids.

Does anyone else here throw knives or axes? lol It's fun stuff. It's like the extreme version of darts.

Graphics / Creative way to display health in a HUD...?
« on: April 27, 2012, 07:33:54 pm »
I've started working again on my untitled 3D Zombie Survival game, most of you won't remember it there never was a public demo. Right now I'm stuck on a creative way to display the health in the HUD.

Originally I just had it like a lot of modern FPSs with auto-regen health, where no health is displayed and the screen just gets more red with damage taken. But I recently switched it from auto-regen to healthpacks to heal, and now I need a cool way to display the player's health.

I was thinking along the lines of displaying a human heart, beating, and have it beat faster and get darker/almost black as the health gets low. But now I don't like the idea as much, and want to go with something else.

Screenshot: (note that all HUD elements are just visual placeholders atm, & 599 is the zombie count)

Any ideas guys and gals?

My gf and I just recently setup a new server, we can both connect fine in-house but want to make sure others can get in fine also as port-forwarding with this new modem/router combo is a pain.

If you have Minecraft and are willing to try connecting for us, just leave a reply here or add me on MSN/LIVE Messenger.

Thanks. :D

EDIT: No longer needed, sever's up in running. If anyone wants to join anyway let me know.

Entertainment / What's some good online PC games my gf and I can play?
« on: April 03, 2011, 02:20:51 pm »
Preferably free, but if not oh well still let me know.

The type of games we like playing together:
 - Animal Crossing. (only have a GameCube, got bored of it after a year)
 - The Sims: Bustin Out (Played on GameCube also, was fun but splitscreen sucks)
 - Call of Duty (Played the !@#$% out of MW1, MW2, and BO. Bored with it)
 - Minecraft. (Played our own server as-well as a public one, got bored eventually)
 - Mission Against Terror (Decent free online FPS, but the good weapons cost money and only last a few days)

So does anyone know of any other games similar to any of these that are on PC?

Other Projects / [Trailer] 3d Zombie Survival Horror
« on: December 27, 2009, 12:33:11 am »
I posted some pics of this project awhile ago back in the "Post pics of your current project" thread, and decided I might as well make a topic and vid about it now. Though it's still nameless. :P

I'm not going to say much about it yet other than it's a "pseudo-3D" top-down zombie survival horror title that takes place in a local mall in a small town.
(the mall is actually being rendered/modeled after a local mall near me)

I've pretty much been working on this whenever I've had the spare time and interest lately.

Recruitment / Need someone to make a 5 minute Java "program".
« on: November 23, 2009, 12:26:40 am »
I just need a quick Java program made for a cell phone that'll basically be nothing but a code input screen with a timer that causes a cell phone vibration when it's counted down to 0.

If you'd like to help, let me know. I'm making a mockup in Game Maker so you can see what I mean easier.

Recruitment / [Recruiting] Spriters and Artists; Harvest Moon type game
« on: August 31, 2009, 01:39:01 am »
So I've got the idea in my head now, I can't not do it. lol
I'm starting work on a 2D top-down viewed(maybe isometric) game similar in style to Harvest Moon, but with added elements and different play-styles of course. :)

I don't know if anyone remembers, but waaaay back in the day I was working on "Zelda: A Time of Harvest" and it received a lot of good feedback, even though my skills are 1,000x better now. lol The only reason I stopped that project was because my editable got corrupted and I wasn't smart enough to save backups back then. :P

For those who aren't familiar, my portfolio:
  - - -
Completed(and worth mentioning only)
  - - -
Works in progress
  - - -

I'm looking for a spriter who's a good team player and can carry their weight. Someone who will communicate freely and not take 2 weeks to respond to an urgent project email. They should be confident in their work, and not afraid to try new things.

And I'm looking for an artist who can help touch-up my concept art and also create fresh concept art from ideas.

I'm starting on concept art myself now, and I'll post a few as they're put together.
Please reply or PM me if you're interested in being a part of this project.

Thanks. :)

Other Projects / [Completed] Experimental
« on: August 30, 2009, 04:30:43 pm »
I got bored, and had this weird idea for a game.
So I put this together over a few days, about a total of 10 hours spent on it's development.

It's a point-and-click type game where all you do is try to figure out how to advance and what not to do. (lol, this game will end up pissing you off unless you're really good at these types of games) So just click things and look for hints.

Screenshot:

(runs on Vista/XP or older)

Make sure your speakers are on so you can hear the cool music and whatnot! haha
Let me know what you think of the game, and tell me if you actually beat it or not.

Coding / [GM6] Looking for some help/tutorials for online coding
« on: July 07, 2009, 10:53:37 am »
I've recently decided that I really have got to finally learn how to setup online engines(in GameMaker) since I've been putting it off for years.

What made me really want to do it is the fact that I want to take my project One Occurrence online and have a two player co-op type game where you have to survive the zombie waves like in the solo Survival mode already featured in the game.

I've looked at a couple online engines and examples, but what I've gathered from it seems not to work right when put into practice. For example:
Player 1 sees player 2's bullets facing the correct direction, but with a speed of 0 and not moving.
Player 2 sees player 1's bullets facing the wrong direction, but with correct speed and moving. It's weird...
I blame it mostly on the poor documentation in the examples I looked at. lol

But yeah, if anyone knows any good online tutorials or examples I can look at, or are willing to help me out first hand, that'd be great. =)
I'll start from scratch and re-code the whole game engine if I have to just to get online working in my game.

One Occurrence

--------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE: May.8th/09
--------------------------------------------------------
As many of you have asked for, I've finally got around to redoing all of One Occurrence's original controls to a more suitable A/S/D/W movement + Mouse aiming system. (similar to that seen in Action Shooter)
Menus are now navigated with mouse clicks, and player movement is now absolute meaning you press up, you go up. Press left, you go left. Ect... No more pressing up to move towards the direction you're facing/aiming. This allows for much more free movement, and quicker and more accurate aiming.
--------------------------------------------------------

One Occurrence is an adventure/survival horror game set in a small town during a cold winter when a mysterious zombie outbreak occurs. The townsfolk of this peaceful rural area band together to try and figure out what's going on as they slowly discover that what they thought was a riot late one night is actually an army of undead. You control Danny Gravis, who ventures off to to the middle of nowhere to inspect and sign for his newly acquired house that his grandmother had left him in her will. Being such a long drive from home, Danny decides to stay the night there instead of taking the long trip home again that night. That night, he's awaken to a loud pounding at his door...

In this demo, play through a small sample of story mode, or put your survival skills to the test in survival mode! Compare your "sur-viv-al-bility" with other players as you compete for top ranks on online high score tables!

Features:
  • Fully functional menus
  • Weapons inventory screen (see screenies)
  • Over 10 weapons, including 4  different grenade types!
  • Variety of zombie types (small in demo)
  • Plus tons more!

Debates / US army are pussies.
« on: August 18, 2008, 07:55:47 pm »
They are becoming the laughing stalk of the world.

Pull your army out of Iraq and go fight Russia. Oh that's right, Bush won't because he knows Russia's army is just as big, if not bigger and better. The only reason they evaded Iraq is because they knew they're nothing but a bunch of towel heads with rusted AKs, and no real training whatsoever.
It's like the big cocky !@#$% who only fights wimps or drunks at parties, cuz they know they'll win.

Plus the US is loosing what little respect(and I do mean LITTLE) they had with the rest of the world because they won't back up someone in their alliance like they're supposed to.

EDIT: And of course I don't mean all of the troops and soldiers of the US army themselves, they're not the pussies. I mean the leaders and people telling them what to do.

ACTION SHOOTER
by Drewdelz

What is Action Shooter? Action Shooter is a platform shooter from REBirth Gaming that pokes fun at popular shooters of that very genre. The game holds just as much action as jokes, though! Although since this is a very early beta, not much script writing has been done yet, thus cutscenes are missing/auto-skipped.
There's still a lot of things missing/unpolished, but it's still very detailed and layed out well for being so early in developement.

CUTSCENES AND MENU DESIGN ARE COMPLETELY TEMPORARY,
AND SHOULD NOT BE VIEWED AS THE FINAL PRODUCT.

Screenies:

Features:
  • 360 aiming (Mouse controlled)
  • Ragdoll Physics
  • Detailed worlds
  • Ledge grabbing
  • Slo'-mo' adrenaline control
  • Vista compatible
  • Point-precision damage *
  • More, of course

* What I mean by "point-recision" damage is, shoot enimies in the head, it's a headshot. Shoot them in legs, they fall to their knees. Body shoots push back more.

Just a side note.
I'm looking for voice actors and comedic writers who know modern shooter games well, and can write jokes that players of those games and non-players alike would get. Voice actors must have a decent mic also. PM me if you're dedicated and interested.
