Title: Link's Awakening - MC Style
Post by: Ryuza on April 10, 2009, 06:59:09 pm
Okay, back on this again :). Currently working on recreating Koholint Island in Minish Cap Style. This is mainly just for fun, if any of it ends up getting used in the Community Project then cool, But for now I'm just having some fun :).

Added the Mysterious Forest. I like this one the most out of all the areas I've, I also decided to make it a bit more away from the original but I think it overall is still close to the original, its not done yet but I'll probably finish later tonight or tomorrow.

I had the cliffs below Mabe up before but I'm gonna rework them and post them along with the beach (once that gets finished).

Let me know what you guys think :).

Sounds good, do you know who's in charge of the project?

Well, its the community, but a more specific answer is 4Sword, or Xfixium.

Blue font, eh? You're not Skully are you :P?

The map is nice, you've followed TMC mapping conventions quite closely. Nice job. Though, some areas do seem a tad bare.

The map looks really great. There are a number remarks I want to point out a flaw. It is clear that you've used field cliffs and a field end of the bridge. The grass is still visible at the edges (see attachment). This gives graphical errors when water is put in. You can better use the water versions of cliffs.

On a personal note I think the type of house you've used for the northern house, Madam MeowMeow and the Gameshop are a bit to fancy for a village like Mabe Village. Although for the library it can still fit.

I was kinda just being lazy with the bottom of the cliffs, I don't have too many tiles other then the sheet that I posted on the mapping topic.

I was thinking about the houses when I looked at the town after it was done, I'm gonna go through the town again and see what kinda stuff I can change now that I have a few comments about it.

Speaking of which, thanks for the comments so far :)

The "bridge" part should be fixed, but I'm not so sure the "grass at the bottom of the cliffs" bit should be changed. Mixed with water, it could give a nice effect of riverside or marshy grass. Sounds like a nice possibility, if done right.

Added the area below town and changed a few small things.

At the Toronbo Shores I don't think you should use fences. A more natural form of barrier is better at its place there, like rocks.

Good point, I tried rocks before but they just didn't seem to fit, probably cause I didn't have many different rocks so it was just the same thing over and over. I'll see what I can come up with :)

One thing wrong I can see in the Mysterious Woods: the "lost" parts of the woods. When you get transported to another section of the woods, it was completely identical to the "room" you just came from. Now, the trees in the two "identical" sections don't match up. You'd have a room where there's a lower section of the tree, but no upper part... among other errors. Going through, it'd look like this attachment, which is bad.

Hadn't noticed that part, thanks :) I'll see what I can do to fix it.

Also the top and bottom entrances of those screens have to be of equal width. Because in the beginning of the game when you haven't freed Tarin you can walk up that screen and end up in the same screen again.

Dude,

Was very good.
I believe there are some sprites nonexistent in minish cap, that you could do a revamp to make the transition to be perfect. The work is excellent!
Congratulations!
