Well, there was no interiors, and the Gang needs a place to live, right?

Their home is a house in the poor Hyrule, and has two floors. The first floor is divided in two zones: the kitchen and the hall. The second floor has just a long room, with beds for the children. Farin sleeps in the first floor anyway, in the hall. They have a secret escape below Link's bed. The corridor is in a spiral way, in a long way down (it'd be the 1B).

For a slum house, this seems very rich, with two floors and multiple rooms and even a basement

Well, unless this is made out of crappy wood or something like that, it's way to big.

Indeed it is quite large.  Can you scale this down a bit?  I don't see a kitchen being necessary for one.

True, they'll just steal the food from other people.

As Hyrule was recently divided into rich and poor (at least I understood that from the doc), this house was supposed to be a really luxurious house, but the architects were doing the body of the house with bricks, just that. When Hryule got divided, they left the job, and left what was already built. Farin found it, and thought of a nice place to live. The kitchen is not even a kitche, it's just a place that looks like a kitchen.

So your saying some hyrulian construction workers did a half-ass job on it, then left it unfinished, and Farin happens to find it later.

and the basement could be more of a hide hole that happens to be underground, instead of a fully tiled/furnished room, like think of a mining tunnel reinforced with rotting wood, and bare dirt floor or stone

Actually, Farin made the hole, and also the passage was done by Farin.

I have to agree with the others, making them live in such a big house won't make that "geez, these guys sure have a hard life" feel in my opinion. It'd be a nice concept for another house though - I just don't see this working for a poor gang of thieves.

EDIT: Maybe if you get rid of the beds room, replace the kitchen with the beds room, and make the secret room more smaller, it could work perhaps.
