Thanks for your input. :D

I've seen a few Zelda games on the RPG maker forums. Some of them looked really cool too.

But I can understand it's not a very efficient tool for the job, RPG maker has a clear design goal, and that pushes it towards Final Fantasy style games. You really have to work against your tool to make a Zelda style game.

Thanks for the reply!

I had figured that zelda classic was fairly limited, but had also seen screenshots of games that mimicked the colour gameboy games and so thought that perhaps if you could manage the horrid looking UI that it may have been a powerful editor.

From the looks of it, most people here are using some variation of Game Maker.

I've also seen mention of Multimedia Fusion, though I'm unfamiliar with it.

I should note, I'm not really looking for recommendations of which to use, but for peoples opinions on the ones that they have used and the reasons that they prefer or dislike them.

My own project is using C++ and SFML, and has been in casual development for about half a year. I'm not planning to change it, but wanted to know what people where looking for in a game editor and what things they really liked or hated about the tools they've used before.

This'll be my first post here at ZFGC, so first off, Hi everyone!
I've been lurking here for a while as I've been working on a sort-of-zelda-related game project.

My question for you guys, is what kind of tools are you using to create Zelda-like games. And what are the advantages of said tools compared to one another?

I'm not referring to programming languages or libraries for programming languages. Just applications of any nature.

From what i've seen so far, a few of these tools are:
  • Zelda Classic:
  • Game Makers: 5 through 8?
  • A few community made tools designed to work with game maker.
  • ?

And what makes your chosen tool easier to use compared to one another?

What advantages does game maker have over Zelda classic for instance? What drawbacks to all of these tools have. Any features you wished they had?

Thanks for any contributions you can give. :D
