and, if anyone wants to continue SOD, Im sorry but I cannot be bothered to make any more graphics, I do have the story dascu and I wrote if anyone wants it

.TaKaM, those are quite possibly the most amazing sprite sheets and maps made for any fan game ever.  I love the ALTTP/MC Mix Link too. ;D I could only wish that you'd keep working on these, but it's your choice. :)

Post by: .TakaM on October 02, 2006, 03:00:52 pm
well, dascu and I were going to make it, but we put it on hold to make a different game, wasnt meant to take too long but he kept running into problems with it, and I kept making it more ambitious.

then he could no longer open gamemaker, making this new project and SOD impossible.

so I found a new coder for the new project and dropped SOD, by this time we both didnt care much about it anymore anyways.

Great graphics overall. Love the hearts, but I don't like the button part of the HUD. Those npc are perfect though. The one girl in what looks like a "white mage" outfit in final fantasy games, is exactly the way I think people should look in games tailored more to the lttp style. Ive always disliked the people graphics in lttp, mostly because of the eyes. If they all looked like that girl did it would be great.

A while ago i was making an entire 2d oot sheet, not really for any reason other then fun. I was trying to keep everything sort of looking lttp style (overworld speaking) but with a larger pallet, and give npc's that short fat look they were lacking, and smaller, more realistic eyes, and again, a bigger pallet. I nearly finished an entire adult link sheet, I was so proud of it, because it was so different from all the other ones, but still followed the lttp style and fit into the backgrounds perfectly. I also did all masks, and had them all fitted to his face when you used them..  and all the items, menus~ Sadly I lost interest in spriting for a while, and deleted it. My only copy for in my secondary photobucket account, and that was deleted for a breech of the terms..

Anyways, These kind of inspire me to work on the sheet all over again (mostly that one npc you drew) But I don't have tons of time lately. We will see though.

I hope that anybody who uses this stuff will be able to at least get close to matching Takam's quality. Iunno, it's just going to look weird if I'm playing a game with mediocre tiling then suddenly something like this pops up.

Also...it'll be sort of strange if mutliple games end up featuring these same maps.

Either way, great stuff. I especially like the Indiana Jones-esque boulder...that's what it was inspired by right?

.TaKam, I always thought you were ZFGC's best spriter. And these sprites prove it without a doubt. I'll definitely be using some of these, especially the outsides of hosues, and maybe the tree. BUt either way, credit is definitely deserved on your part.

@takam: as always a great work... i really hope that noone here uses is without credit, because the thing that you post it here shows your trusting into the members after a long time...

a question: what happend to your "boktai link" did you finish it? it looked like it is used for sod

anyway good look to that other project... it looked amazing ( the rpg like one ), even when i dont know that character...

*dislocated jaw*

Dude, I'm remembering my respect for you all over again ^^
its not very nice way of respect if you only have it by looking "for use sprites"

@others: you guys only spit high tones when you get gifts right? i hope you really give him credit when you use it...

Basically, me and Taka postponed it to work on a different game. It was going OK, although I was having some coding issues and I wasn't that motivated to work on it, since it was based on a game I never played. We then decided it'd be if I quit. I'm very glad that Taka managed to find a new (and superior) coder quite soon, so he could continue to work on that project.
As for SoD, for some obscure reason, I can't open GM6 anymore. I'd have to reprogram the entire engine we had so far, and neither of us were very motivated to actually continue on SoD anyway.

Summary, I quit because lacking motivation/GM problems, and Taka moved on to better and greater things. :P

PS: Now go ahead and use these graphics for all your walking demos.

Hey, .TakeM, I'd like to use your work in my game, the Triforce Trials.

Maybe you could tell me where I could find some custom tilesets for overworld maps (I'm going to use a customized light and dark world tileset from LttP.  I also think I might have one more from Parallel Worlds.  That's 3.  I'd like to find about three more if you know where I could go to get them.  They need to be in LttP-style, not in ZC, MC, or GB style.  Once, I saw some great things from your demos of Shrines of Deceit, as well as stuff from when the game was originally called Path of the Sages.  Benito and aab have some great stuff, too, and I have asked both of them for use of their tiles (aab made an awesome tileset of Jabu-Jabu's belly in LttP).

Anyway, do you know where I could get some more LttP-styled tilesets?

Some objects are in completely the wrong perspective, but I do wonder how the game would have played.

Yue, stay on topic?

Taka and me had some nice plans set. Kind of sad it didn't work out. Regardless, I'd say using a Zelda game as a template can be very limiting. This is a tip for all those wannabe gamedesigners out there: create your own world. Zelda fangames limit your creativity.

Looking at those maps makes me want to make a game of my own, but thinking about making a game of my own makes me not want to make one :P.

They're very good. I'm sure people will be happy to use those maps in their games to get some kind of head-start. Oh well.

Oh yeah, and I'm very interested in reading the story you guys had. Can one you send it to me somehow?

I disagree. I think they enhance it. Just as Nintendo has (with the possible exception of TP) continuously managed to be innovative with their Zelda games, (OOT, WW, FSA, MM, and PH are perfect examples) so fans should be taking the Zelda formula and expanding upon it, sometimes breaking down parts of it to replace them with different things. Making Zelda fangames is great for designers, because it forces them to come up with something new, fresh, and interesting, but still limiting them, not allowing them to get too carried away.
