A US court has ordered Sony to pay USD 18.5 million in compensation to Agere Systems after being found guilty of wilfully violating copyrighted technology on a number of devices.

The jury found that the mylo personal communicator, the PlayStation Portable and the Network Walkman audio players were making use of Agere's patented "wireless local area network apparatus", according to PSP Fanboy.

While the jury ruled in favour of Agere, it is unclear whether this was the total amount the company had been hoping for, as its original claims demanded compensation not just the profits lost due to Sony's patent infringement but also for damages amounting to three times the lost profits.

So all i have to do is put a few words together, and patent them, then in 10 years i can just sue a company that uses that !@#$%?
