Other Discussion / HORRIBLE. DAY.
« on: April 28, 2008, 11:34:25 am »
So earrrrrrrrrrrrrly morning I woke up just to watch a movie on my laptop. Because I can. I watched Forbidden Kingdom and tight butthole it was Okay. Anyway I had college that morning so I went to sleep quickly. It was WINDY AS HELL and COLD so I had terrible sleep. Stupid trees blowing/my dog whining and a mix of other crap.

Anyway I woke up, grabbed my laptop and bagged it, and went off to catch the train to college. I was TIRED. And it was STILL freezing. And my laptop was heavy... I'm used to carrying a few pens and a book.

So whatever got to college, then realised I forgot to put anything on my laptop. I had nothing but some music. How useless.

As I was going to leave, the bag broke. Ooooh yes at that point I was going to snap. I had to put my laptop in a broken bag, and use my jumper to keep it closed. The wind was freezing, but I had to freeze to carry the laptop. Aaaaaaagh my arms ='(.

I get to the train home. I had to stand. On a packed smelly train. With the laptop. My arms wanted to drop the !@#$%.

So I get home late, sit down with my laptop, ready to put some stuff on it finally. Whatever just relax. Ahahaha..... a power blackout. Oh !@#$% great. No power. It was about 2.5 hours of me on my poor laptop. I just played some games that came with the laptop with everything set low to make it last.

I have 2 tests on Friday and 2 assignments due too, then another assignment the week after.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh.

I had basically no money after blowing it all on this laptop, but what the hell I decided to pick up.

Should've waited and spent money on GTAIV.

Worst Mario Kart of all of them IMO. Looks like the same as any mario kart with bikes and some nicer graphics.

Guess the Wii will collect more dust now.

Back to ma xbox.

Other Discussion / New Laptop
« on: April 24, 2008, 01:20:51 am »
Just wanted a new laptop so I got one. It's a Toshiba Satellite P205 but it's got more stuff, like an extra gigabyte of ram (2 to 3) and other stuff. It runs smoother than my PC but it's a fresh install. It was FULL of Toshiba preinstalled !@#$%, and it took an hour to remove it all, but now it's all gone. It's a 17" screen so it's big and sort of heavy. But all I really wanted it for was chatting to people online when I can't get to a PC.

Processor: AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile technology TL-58 1.90ghz
RAM: 2942mb
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium
HDD: 160gb

It looks very pretty, all lights up and yea. Might get pictures later.

Only complaint: Screen is SO BRIGHT X_X

Fixed. 1up yours MS.
Basically, I have two files on my desktop. When I was downloading/deleting/i can't remembering them, I accidentally kicked my computer's reboot button on the tower. So I boot back up to find they're there.

I try to delete them, but it says it can't find them. OK, maybe the desktop didn't update. Try refresh. Nope. Log off. No still there. I can't delete them.

So I wondered what happened when I renamed one. OK, an infinite loop, "The source and destination file names are the same". I click X, Cancel, it won't go away. OK, I'll rename it. Rename... try to apply... oh! Can't find the file again! So it's an infinite loop of fail.

Is there any way of deleting these !@#$% files (or at least their "imaginary icons" according to Windows)?

Edit: and CMD lists them both when I do "dir", so they exist... right? X_X
« on: April 07, 2008, 10:57:59 am »
The North Yungas Road (also Grove's Road, Coroico Road, Camino de las Yungas, El Camino de la Muerte, Road of Death, and Death Road) is a 61 to 69 km road leading from La Paz to Coroico, 56 km (35 miles) northeast of La Paz in the Yungas region of Bolivia. It is legendary for its extreme danger and in 1995 the Inter-American Development Bank christened it as the "world's most dangerous road". One estimate is that 200-300 travellers were killed yearly along the road. The road includes crosses marking many of the spots where such vehicles have fallen. Upon leaving La Paz, the road first ascends up to around 5 km, before descending to 330 m (1079 ft), transiting quickly from cool altiplano terrain to rain forest as it winds through very steep hillsides and atop cliffs.

Other Discussion / Top 10 Reasons to have sex tonight ;)
« on: April 02, 2008, 08:22:29 am »
When you're in the mood, it's a sure bet that the last thing on your mind is boosting your immune system or maintaining a healthy weight. Yet good sex offers those health benefits and more.

That's a surprise to many people, says Joy Davidson, PhD, a New York psychologist and sex therapist. "Of course, sex is everywhere in the media," she says. "But the idea that we are vital, sexual creatures is still looked at in some cases with disgust or in other cases a bit of embarrassment. So to really take a look at how our sexuality adds to our life and enhances our life and our health, both physical and psychological, is eye-opening for many people."

Sex does a body good in a number of ways, according to Davidson and other experts. The benefits aren't just anecdotal or hearsay -- each of these 10 health benefits of sex is backed by scientific scrutiny.

Among the benefits of healthy loving in a relationship:

1. Sex Relieves Stress

A big health benefit of sex is lower blood pressure and overall stress reduction, according to researchers from Scotland who reported their findings in the journal Biological Psychology. They studied 24 women and 22 men who kept records of their sexual activity. Then the researchers subjected them to stressful situations -- such as speaking in public and doing verbal arithmetic -- and noted their blood pressure response to stress.

Those who had intercourse had better responses to stress than those who engaged in other sexual behaviors or abstained.

Another study published in the same journal found that frequent intercourse was associated with lower diastolic blood pressure in cohabiting participants. Yet other research found a link between partner hugs and lower blood pressure in women.

2. Sex Boosts Immunity

Good sexual health may mean better physical health. Having sex once or twice a week has been linked with higher levels of an antibody called immunoglobulin A or IgA, which can protect you from getting colds and other infections. Scientists at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., took samples of saliva, which contain IgA, from 112 college students who reported the frequency of sex they had.

Those in the "frequent" group -- once or twice a week -- had higher
levels of IgA than those in the other three groups -- who reported being abstinent, having sex less than once a week, or having it very often, three or more times weekly.

3. Sex Burns Calories

Thirty minutes of sex burns 85 calories or more. It may not sound like much, but it adds up: 42 half-hour sessions will burn 3,570 calories, more than enough to lose a pound. Doubling up, you could drop that pound in 21 hour-long sessions.

"Sex is a great mode of exercise," says Patti Britton, PhD, a Los Angeles sexologist and president of the American Association of Sexuality Educators and Therapists. It takes work, from both a physical and psychological perspective, to do it well, she says.

4. Sex Improves Cardiovascular Health

While some older folks may worry that the efforts expended during sex could cause a stroke, that's not so, according to researchers from
England. In a study published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, scientists found frequency of sex was not associated with stroke in the 914 men they followed for 20 years.

And the heart health benefits of sex don't end there. The researchers also found that having sex twice or more a week reduced the risk of fatal heart attack by half for the men, compared with those who had sex less than once a month.

5. Sex Boosts Self-Esteem

Boosting self-esteem was one of 237 reasons people have sex, collected by University of Texas researchers and published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior.

That finding makes sense to Gina Ogden, PhD, a sex therapist and marriage and family therapist in Cambridge, Mass., although she finds that those who already have self-esteem say they sometimes have sex to feel even better. "One of the reasons people say they have sex is to feel good about themselves," she tells WebMD. "Great sex begins with self-esteem, and it raises it. If the sex is loving, connected, and what you want, it raises it."

6. Sex Improves Intimacy

Having sex and orgasms increases levels of the hormone oxytocin, the
so-called love hormone, which helps us bond and build trust. Researchers from
the University of Pittsburgh and the University of North Carolina evaluated 59
premenopausal women before and after warm contact with their husbands and partners ending with hugs. Tey found that the more contact, the higher the oxytocin levels.

"Oxytocin allows us to feel the urge to nurture and to bond," Britton says.

Higher oxytocin has also been linked with a feeling of generosity. So if you're feeling suddenly more generous toward your partner than usual, credit the love hormone.

7. Sex Reduces Pain

As the hormone oxytocin surges, endorphins increase, and pain
declines. So if your headache, arthritis pain, or PMS symptoms seem to improve after sex, you can thank those higher oxytocin levels.

In a study published in the Bulletin of Experimental Biology and
Medicine, 48 volunteers who inhaled oxytocin vapor and then had their fingers pricked lowered their pain threshold by more than half.

8. Sex Reduces Prostate Cancer Risk

Frequent ejaculations, especially in 20-something men, may reduce the risk of prostate cancer later in life, Australian researchers reported in the British Journal of Urology International. When they followed men diagnosed with prostate cancer and those without, they found no association of prostate cancer with the number of sexual partners as the men reached their 30s, 40s, and 50s.

But they found men who had five or more ejaculations weekly while in their 20s reduced their risk of getting prostate cancer later by a third.

Another study, reported in the Journal of the American Medical
Association, found that frequent ejaculations, 21 or more a month, were linked to lower prostate cancer risk in older men, as well, compared with less frequent ejaculations of four to seven monthly.

9. Sex Strengthens Pelvic Floor Muscles

For women, doing a few pelvic floor muscle exercises known as Kegels during sex offers a couple of benefits. You will enjoy more pleasure, and you'll also strengthen the area and help to minimize the risk of incontinence later in life.

To do a basic Kegel exercise, tighten the muscles of your pelvic floor, as if you're trying to stop the flow of urine. Count to three, then release.

10. Sex Helps You Sleep Better

The oxytocin released during orgasm also promotes sleep, according to research.

And getting enough sleep has been linked with a host of other good things, such as maintaining a healthy weight and blood pressure. Something to think about, especially if you've been wondering why your guy can be active one minute and snoring the next.

I'm in Ravenhelm (or whatever) in Half Life 2. I have 0 shotgun ammo now because I killed everyone, went to a loading zone, went BACK, and everything respawned. I am screwed.

In Episode One I just got the Gravity gun to change somehow or something, so it's early.

Episode Two I just got the pistol in a mine. So fairly early too.

Now, I have googled and can't find anything, but how many hours does it take to finish the games? I UNFORTUNATELY watched all of the endings except Episode Two's, so I really want to just finish them and get it over with.

And quick question, is Ep One even good? Half Life 2 is great, Ep Two looks and feels great, but Ep One seems to be in such a horrid dead atmosphere that started wrong and is going wrong. Maybe I have to progress further. Oh and which should I finish first? Which is the best? I'm leaning towards Ep Two.

Coding / For each loop...
« on: March 11, 2008, 08:28:07 am »
My college is !@#$% annoying the !@#$% out of me. Every lesson we go on, there is always one question or more for homework that tells us nothing and expects us to do god's work. The answers are there as class files, so I decompile them, and sons of bitches, they cheat! While they expect us to write a 50 line algorithm, they've used one method that comes with a prepackaged java class. How is that legit at all.

Anyway, can somebody please thoroughly explain a for-each loop? Our presentation today told us nothing. They just showed it, with no example, and the teacher says "yea umm I don't know it looks like C#-ish but yea just use the .length property lolz" well haha no !@#$%. Somebody explain please. I've used it once and it has worked once but I'm still lost basically.

Thanks in advance.

The creators of Halo (well some ex-members of Bungie) made a site called Fyreball. They have a 'competition' where a few people, who sign up at least 10 people (who comment on some things and submit feedback) win a shirt. I love this site, and unfortunately all my friends hate it.

Give me your e-mail. I will send you a friend request. You sign up via it, comment on a few things (go to Public, click some random things and submit a MEANINGFUL comment) and submit feedback using the thing at the bottom of a page. Say anything. Say like "Pretty UI =)" or "My pc takes a performance beating from the graphics but it's probably just me". (Examples, please lawd don't copy&paste).

If I get at least 10 people to do this I get a chance at it.

Please god, it takes 20 minutes of your time, please >_<.

Some of you may have read that post I made last week or whatever about the sick sick sick sick 20+ year old dude. It was yea I'm over it.

But anyway, college ended early for me today so I was able to go home. On the train [AGAIN] on the way home, I was blasting Queens of the Stone Age just because I was bored as hell and wanted time to go faster. So anyway... The station before mine... I look outside. I saw some like... 50 year old dude with a shirt with this logo on it:

The shirt was just a standard black T shirt with a white HL2 logo on it.

Now, I mean, what the hell is wrong with the world. This guy was seriously old. I mean like, as old as old gets (but not 80). He must've been playing Half life at 40.

I think I'm going to catch the bus from now on. And stop doing drugs.

So, returning home from the City on a train as usual... Just sitting... thinking about programming and thinking I was probably the biggest nerd on it. But nope.

I lifted my head, and saw a man who looked... 22? He was obviously an adult and a male. He had his legs together, his head down, and a hat on his head hiding himself pretty well. Maybe it was because he had the worst acne ever. So I looked down to see what he was looking at... and he had this stack of what appeared to be well from what I could see from the 99 times I looked were japanese loli (as perverted and pedo as it gets) manga-ishizzle magazines (actually in japanese, and he appeared to be reading it with no trouble). Now, he kept looking up and looking around probably checking if anybody was looking. I looked around and yea, everybody was.

Now, as much as I tried not to, I just burst out laughing. I couldn't believe it. This guy was clearly a virgin and will be for the rest of his life. He was living in his mum's basement probably manga and anime viewing and getting money from the government to do it.

Wow.

Sorry just had to get this out =(.
