Well is it a useful ability to have or more of an annoyance?

Discuss...

I think its unnecessary, what do you all think?
FYI: In Super Mario World 2, Yoshi's Story, and Yoshi's Island DS you press B Twice while in mid-air to flutter jump.

Edit: You all need to post a response as to why you voted for what you voted for or else I'm going to remove this thread!
And I might re-think to not release the Yoshi Engine I have been working on.

Other Discussion / WindowsXP Installer Package error!!!
« on: July 20, 2007, 04:14:54 am »
Ok I'm working on a clients computer for my dad's pc repair business and I have run into a snag.

Has anyone had this error come up while installing third party software:

Code: [Select]
There is a problem with this windows installation package,
a program that was executed as a part of the package did no
complete as expected. Contact your support personnel or
package vendor. Error Code 1722

I already tried contacting the third party software's company and they said it was a windows error, so I called Microsoft and they told me they could fix it..... for $54.00!

Anyone run into this problem?
If so or if not so could ya help a guy out?

Feedback / Forum Ranking.
« on: July 11, 2007, 07:00:43 pm »
Hi, I used to be at the rank of Zora as a poster a few days ago and now I'm a Deku.
Isn't Deku a step down from Zora?
If you all changed the ranking system could you please post how the new one works.

I wish I was still a Zora!

Discussion / Item Handeling in a Mario Game
« on: July 10, 2007, 07:31:00 pm »
Ok here is the deal, the first demo of this game is nearing completion but now I'm at a fork in the road when it comes to Mario holding on to items.
Currently the controls are like this:
Code: [Select]
Z = Jump
X = Spin Jump
A = Run
S = Shoot Fireball (Hold down to charge up for a Z Blast!) *Fire Mario only!*
Enter = Pause
I am thinking of placing the carrying code on the A key (so you can run with an item, just like in SMW!)
The only problem, there is two ways I can do this.
One, you press and hold A to grap and hold an item and release to let go of it.
Two, you press A once to grap and again to release the item.

My two cents: The second way may be easier becuase the player would not have to hold down the A key to hold.

Graphics / (CLOSED) Rate this Map for "Super Mario's Wacky Worlds"
« on: July 05, 2007, 10:52:02 pm »
Ok. Have a look at the map at the bottom of this post and vote on what you think, please leave comments!
Edit: I fixed a few screw-ups on my part!
Edit2: I made it less "geometrical" thanks go to Chaotic for the tip.
Just a side note: The place where World four is appears to be empty because that World is 100% underwater! (*Spoiler*This means Mario will have a underwater vehicle to use...)
The in-game icons on the map are not shown here, there will be a warp pipe to the right of the World 4 Sign.

Final Edit: This topic and poll is closed do to the overwelming response that my map is of a good quality.
This doesn't mean I'm no longer taking any help with this. If you want to offer any suggestions for improvement, drop me a line @ IronWits@aol.com or pm me with the subject: SMWW Map. Thanks. *locked*

Okay for my Mario game I am going to base my controls on the Nintendo Game Cube (NGC) Controller.
(Of course I'll have keyboard translation (i.e.: A Button = Z key))
Here are the specs for the drawing:
Size: minimum = 48 x 48; maximum = 112 x 112!
Format: bmp or  png
Color Pallete: Super Mario World (Normal, not Special World) Color Pallete

What you get in return:
 XD Credits XD

Also if someone can get or design a startup screen animation that resembles the NGC Startup (in gif format),
I will throw in some cheat codes in addition to the credits! XD
Tip: (For those who want the cheats) the game's screen view will be 275 x 240 and make sure the logo can fit correctly in those dimensions or else I will not use it no matter how awsome it is!
I edited it with the snes pallete.

Audio / Request: Can someone tell me who made these songs? (Resolved)
« on: June 14, 2007, 09:33:16 pm »
The file names are in the image below: (click to resize)

I want to know who made them so I can put him or her in my credits.
As for the content, they appear to be live rock band instrumentals of the SMW music.

The polling system is great but I think it would be more accurate if an option was available to require a voter to post a comment as to why they voted. Of course this would be in the form of a prompted question so the voter still has the option of not posting a comment.
The comment could be placed as a reply or in the polls under the question with the username of the voter displayed with the usernames persmission via prompt, of course. This system would allow the "poll master" to fiqure out why the polls are they way they are wether they are positive to the Poll Master or negative.

Would this be too difficult to implant?

Discussion / MB Size of Game vs. Quality
« on: June 13, 2007, 02:34:43 am »
Well, lets say I release a demo with the first 4 level of the first world working and its a 8MB exe and you would need 35kb for the saved data. The loading system is set up to work as effective as possible (The music files are copied from the game to a temp directory and access via script in-game during loading, which reduces loading strain) Would this be desirable? Or should I abandon the music system I coded and just use midis?

Is size really a problem with you guys?

*Post a comment after you vote, please*

I recommend posting a reply along with your vote.
Edit: 0% of map complete (started over, will update when ready)

Graphics Requests/Archive / [Solved] A Vortex sprite
« on: June 06, 2007, 02:52:10 am »

An animated vortex (look it up if you don't know what one is)
Color = Purple (Or any "evil" looking color)
Size: 32x32
Dimension: 2D (Which means flat)

You will get credit and a copy of the game's source file when its completed if I choose your model.
Note: If you know of a good one that is not yours, post the link and tell me who it belongs to. You and that person will get credit for it as well as you a copy of the game's source file when its completed (The other person will get a copy of the source only if there a member of the ZFGC; otherwise, they will only receive credit)

Debates / Legend of Zelda and religion, did they at one time mix?
« on: June 03, 2007, 05:51:18 pm »
First off, the games am talking about are:
The Legend Of Zelda
The Legend Of Zelda: The Adventures of Link
And a little of Zelda 64.

With that I will begin.
In the First Zelda game, Link's shield has a cross on it.
In the Second Zelda game, Link must find a "cross" in order to see invisible things.
Both two games have the cross in it, but that really doesn't mean anything.
In Zelda 64, the pieces of the triforce were introduced as symbols of three different ideals:
Triforce of Power
Triforce of Courage
Triforce of Wisdom
Although this was originally mentioned in the first Zelda game, the information wasn't forced on the player until Zelda 64 (Before you had to read the story in the game's manual.

So what does this all have to do with anything?

In the Christian Religion, God is seen as three entities. (or persons)
It is possible to find a similarity between God and the triforce:

Triforce of Power =  In the Christian Religion, God is the ultimate source of power.
Triforce of Courage = In the Christian Religion, Jesus was courageous enough to die on the cross for sin.
Triforce of Wisdom = In the Christian Religion, the Holy Spirit is the source of wisdom.

Discuss.

Note: Before you post, my intent of this disscussion was NOT to say or prove any one religion was right.
And before you say it, yes I have a life!

« on: May 29, 2007, 05:44:22 pm »
I'm wondering... has anyone purchased anything thing from ztnetstore.com.
If so... are there any products they sell illegal in the US?

Like Say: Super Retroport?

well the reason I asked is that I know Kamek was Bowser's caretaker when he was a baby and Kammy was his side-kick when he is an adult and don't know if I should use Kammy or Kamek (If I used Kamek I may have to draw him as a really old koopa, older than Kammy!)
Edit: So far the polls are 1  to 1. (A Tie) Could people who voted or will vote next please explain why you voted. Defend your decision! If I decide to use the character you voted for I will give you cheat codes that can be used in the game. (even in the upcoming demo!) I will be keeping track of who has a stronger case on this topic.

So Far its:

Kamek: weak (barely any votes and no defense)
Kammy: weak (a lot of votes but no defense)

Note: Please include your e-mail when you post so I can e-mail you the codes if your character is chosen.
The final decision will be made in two weeks (30 May 2007)

Good Luck, Post Responsibly and don't flame!

Edit: don't be shy please share why you voted!
Edit2: I need to know who is voting for what, I can't award the cheats to if you win if you don't post who you are!

Entertainment / Zelda game quirk
« on: May 10, 2007, 02:47:08 pm »
I've noticed that in each zelda game (zelda3 and zeld64 for example) have an alternating way to heal the player completely.
In zelda3 you have to use potions to heal all hearts and the fairys only heal 8 or so hearts.
Its the opposite in Zelda64, you use fairys to heal you completely and the potions barely help at all.
Then again in Majora's mask its switch back to zelda3 style.

Isn't this a little weird?

Discussion / Simulating Heat and Air
« on: April 20, 2007, 11:10:30 pm »
I know this sounds weird but.... if someone were able to construct a device that could blow cool air or hot depending on what the pc told it to do?
Like for example in a game, your in a hot volcano and the device starts blowing hot air at you!
Same similar result for if you in a cold climate like a snowy area.

Could it be done? Probably.
By anyone here? Probably not.

So, what ya think?

Discussion / POLL: Placing clips into game
« on: April 19, 2007, 12:46:01 am »
Well my question is simple:
I'm making a futurama fan game based on the show and I wanted to know if it would be morally appropriate to place the intro from the show in the introduction of the game.
I'm not a fan of doing that but I just want to see your oppinions
