Specifically the LA intro to LttP style.

Well the great thing about the LA game is that it is also 2D like the LTTP one. My personal suggestion would be to create a tileset from all of the LA overworld, for every sprite that you can find. I would then proceed to look for the LTTP equivalent ,and lay them out on two separate sheets in the same way so that you can see this.

Then you could clearly see what LTTP is missing, and would know what needs to be created. You also have enough ties from there to then do nearly 80% of the overworld.

I mean the amv that plays at the start of the game. The one where Link is in the storm.

The style isn't really different... It's the same style artwork that's in the instruction booklets for aLttP and LA.

Realistically though; aLttP wouldn't have an intro like that. It would represent those events with sprites.

So I have two opitons. Either I just keep the original intro with no changes, or create the entire thing myself with sprites.

Those are two options, or you could take the intro screens in Paint or something equivalent and paint the complete thing over in ALttP color pallet. Like Mamoruanime said, the style is the same, but you might want to some color.

The intro has over 1000 frames, according to animget. You saying repaint 1000+ frames and then assemble them again?

...

They're not FMV's Jeod... Theres not 1000 frames.

You're relying on a video capture tool to capture something generated in-game using stylized tiles, sprites, and palette changes...

In order to recreate it, you need to treat the intro as if it's no different from a "room" in your game, as apposed to a video.

Assuming you're planning on taking on the task of redesigning LA in LTTP style; I'd suggest taking on a project that requires less mid-skill techniques, and go with something more beginner to get into the game design scene. Theres some fundamental techniques you'll need to grasp before trying to recreate a game. Start small, and study some examples that come with Game Maker, and then read up on some game dev books. It should be a foot in the door at least :P

Um, I'm not using Game Maker.

Irrelevant; the point is there are fundamental things that need to be learned before taking on a task like recreating LA in LTTP style. No matter what you're using for a programming language, theres got to be tutorials or guides for basic game development that could help with this stuff.

I know how to make the game. I've never fiddled with an intro before though. Don't judge my skills based on a part of something that doesn't particuarly matter anyway. I just wanted the intro to make it look nice. I don't need it to make this.

I'll probably just end up doing that.

Jeod, I'll give you an honest answer. Make the intro using LTTP style sprites. It'll be hard work but that's what the style would have.

I have checked the intro of LA. I assume you mean the intro where Link's ship is hit by lightning. All the objects in screen are background images or sprites and I have counted them. Below you will find a list:

  • Single Color Background (2x)
  • Clouds (2x)
  • Rain Foreground
  • Lightning (7x)
  • Link (2x picture, 1x sprite)
  • Seas (3x)
  • Boat silhouette
  • Beach
  • Marin
  • Koholint Island with Windfish Egg
  • Title: Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening (ALttP style)

In total you have to draw over 23 sprites. Some are animated and some are static. After this you just have to animate the sprites. I think your estimate of 1000+ frames is unlikely.

Running VBA with animget had 1000 frames ripped. That list will help though, thanks!

<_< We already covered why that isn't possible... You can't treat game cycles as frames.... It's not an FMV.
