I'm looking for a custom inventory background to go with Link's Awakening Remastered. Why? Well for one, the original LttP inventory screen is too big. There's empty space after all the items are in it. Two, the original inventory screen sucked and I want to add a little something different to it.

Any takers? The size will be 320x240. That's the window size of the game.

Sorry for the double post, but I just made one using Xfixium's set. I'm not sure if it's too MCish though. I used an animated fog overlay to give it some spice.

Well the style isn't bad, but I think you need to recolor it for LAR

Here's a preview of what's done so far. It shows the animated inventory, among other things completed. I did most of this today. Started with a title screen this morning, lol. Credits to Benito for the debug engine, the name registration, and the file select. (Gave me pointers for how to program them myself) Sprites are from TSR.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCBsrKkeji8" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCBsrKkeji8</a>

Wait a while for it to process...should be done soon.

Hmm, file select and name entry is really Minish Cap and is totally wrong. The inventory does need a bit of recoloring. The rest looks really good.

Actually it's the GBA file select screen for LttP.

Everything looks like it's progressing well from what I see on the vid. I understand that's the name enter graphics from GBA lttp, but it's definitely MC styled. I'd stick with SNES's lttp name enter screen.

You probably already have it, but I provided a link:

http://www.spriters-resource.com/snes/zeldalinkpast/sheet/7649

Also, you do need to use a lttp styled menu. I'm sorry, the current one does not fit well. All I can say about using more space, is maybe combine the main menu with the dungeon map. Also another idea to use up space is maybe have a box that describes each item as you select it. Also, don't make the menu the entire screen size, still show the hud to claim more screen real estate.

Ah, ok. 'll do my best to edit the original menu then.

EDIT: I'm trying to come up with a better background. The fog doesn't exactly fit with the LttP menu, so I found three possibilities.

Possibility 1
Possibility 2
Possibility 3

None of them look too fitting for a background in a video game, but if one of them is suitable, I'll attempt a recolor.

EDIT 2: I'll make a poll for the file select and name registration. I don't see much MC in there, mainly because the colors aren't bright enough and it isn't the right pallette. I'm basing this off the gba version of LttP, even though my concepts topic said SNES. That's only because the style is SNES. The gba version is a remake. Also, IMO, the screens I have now are far better looking than the original bland ones on the SNES.

Yeah, I agree, lttp menus are pretty bland. Those pictures you have look pretty cool though, nice finds. I did make a very simple menu in lttp style, it's an option.

Actually it's the GBA file select screen for LttP.

The file select from the GBA version was stylized in the Four Swords style, the multiplayer addition of ALttP GBA. The Four Swords style is almost the same as Minish Cap, which are based on the Wind Waker.

Yeah, I agree, lttp menus are pretty bland. Those pictures you have look pretty cool though, nice finds. I did make a very simple menu in lttp style, it's an option.

Simple, yet effective. They look good.

Again, I'll make a poll for it. Of course, that will be after I get a technical demo released to see how everyone likes the controls.

Yeah, when I saw the inventory, I did think that it looked somewhat cluttered and didn't seem to fit the style.. Xfixium's inventory menu thing looks really nice though.

Also though in the inventory, are you going to go the LTTP way and have the items/equipment in there be "undetailed" looking like in the actual LTTP game? I don't even know if that made sense.. xD

How much more detailed could I make them while retaining the style?

I mean like how in the inventory in LTTP, the items/equipment almost has an.. "8-bit" coloring to them? Kinda like this:

My question is, would you do this kind of style too into your inventory? Just a question of detail and whatever.

If you were to keep it true to the style, you would want to do whole new sprites, rather than recolours.  They would have to be roughly the same size as those to be stylistically correct, and the LA items are too small.  That said, you only need a couple colours per item, and you can reuse the bow, bombs, flute, powder, shovel, whatever else I'm forgetting..
