Welcome to the rebirth of the annual Character Creation contest of 2012!
For those who are new, this contest has been around since 2005 and hasn’t been run for a while due to general inactivity on the forums. Now that we have a fresh batch of new members, we have decided to start up the competition in full!
So what exactly is the character creation contest? Well, it’s simple: you create a character, display it to the forums, and then let them fight to the ultimate death for the glory of the #1 spot!
This board is dedicated to general questions for the contest. Here’s a description of the child boards:
CHARACTERS BOARD
This is where you will create your character and campaign them. Feel free to be as artistic as you wish. A picture and a minimum of 150 words of description are needed. A user may only have one character in the competition. The preferred format for images is .png. Please keep in mind that we on Staff will review submissions in this board. When we approve your submission, we will write an [APPROVED] tag in the title of the thread. If your character is generally inappropriate (use common sense, review the rules, or ask to have your submission reviewed by a staff member) then we will simply lock the topic and add a [REJECTED] tag.
MATCHES BOARD
When the competition starts, this is where the matches will take place between characters. There will be a systematic way of dividing the characters once the characters are all submitted. The way voting works is by polls at the top of a thread. You may only vote once per match. When a character is defeated, there will be a [DEFEATED] tag added to the character’s thread in the Characters board.
We have come up with a list of dates to follow for the competition:
- SUNDAY, JUNE 10TH: You have until this date to come up with a character and post it in the Characters board. After this date, we will assemble all characters into divisions and prepare the matches! Please keep in mind that if you are a day or two late, we will indeed accept your entry, but we encourage you not to wait until the last minute ;).
- SUNDAY, JUNE 17TH: This is when the matches will begin! Wee!!
The #1 rule should be to HAVE FUN! To see previous character entries, please refer to this link: (this is where Basniak puts a link n’ !@#$%)
Some personal favorites include Kanye East (2010) and The Fartriloquist (2008)!

Well, both. Common sense. Inappropriate entries consist of nudity, too much gore, etc etc.

One last question. It's ok if I modify A LOT a sprite, and create a new one. Is just that I need a base to make the character.

Sounds fine to me! The Dragonite entry is basically a modified sprite too.

Next Friday is June 1st, what happens when that comes around and there's still not enough entries for a hearty bracket? :(
It's pretty sad remembering how popular this contest was way back when. Maybe you should let people enter 2 entries so Homozygoat can stay in ;)

While I don't mind bending the rules due to lack of participation, I still can't accept Homozygoat due to inappropriate content :P.

I'm guessing we'll just extend the due date on the entries? Advertise it more on the main part of the site maybe?

Why not? It's up to the public, not how strong a character is. If your character is God strong but is crappy, then chances are they won't be popular.

We all know Sephiroth isnt crappy, and well itd be silly for a character with awesome power to lose due to vote. Simply because some people prefer awesome things while others prefer humorous.

I know Sephiroth isn't crappy, because he's generally a good character. However, for example, if I came up with a character with little to not background, and say "this guy is God-like and can own anything", I'm pretty sure this said character will fail.

Yeah... The entire point of this contest is to effectively describe a character. I am sure that if somebody entered a rock as a character, but described it in a way that brought it to life, and connected with the members of ZFGC, then it would win. As Star said the point of this contest isn't about the strength of the character physically, but rather the strength of the character description. I'd say go ahead and enter your idea, but be sure to add character to your character instead of just muscles.
Also - Obviously you wouldn't want to add a character that is an exact clone of Sephiroth either, as the point of this contest is to make your own character... I am sure you already knew that though. ;)

I dont even like Sephiroth all like that hah. Ill enter one of my OCs I guess. After i fins my brothers artbook so I can get the picture. Sadly I wont have a pic of his weapon, just his face.
