Other Projects / Re: [Demo] Nexus Ops

Well the reason you can't use both the attack and the plasma with the dragons is because plasma has a much lower chance of destroying the enemy, but you don't get attacked back at all. On the other hand it has a very attack rate, but can still be destroyed by a counterattack. I'm just as baffled about all of those dragons dying against a single miner though. I'll have to look into that. I was comparing values backwards, all of the hit rates were reversed >_< if you re-download, that should be fixed.

Regarding all of those other errors, I know they're there, just still trying to find out why they're happening. It's basically telling me the object doesn't exist even though I make it check for the object before it even gets that far into the code >_< I'm working hard to solve it though.

With the AI, it's not that I'm not adding it, it just won't be finished for a very long time.

And I'm not sure what you mean about the scrolling issue.

Other Projects / [Demo] Nexus Ops
« on: January 02, 2011, 10:17:19 pm »
This a hex-grid strategy game based loosely on Avalon Hill's board game Nexus Ops.  It's a great game, support its makers and buy it!  I will slowly be changing and modifying this game to be more original and eventually remove these apects, but until then some of the names and game mechanics are intellectual property of Avalon Hill and Hasbro.

Currently the game is only enabled for 2 player and no AI has been developed (requires 2 human players). I hope to eventually add AI, but don't expect that for a long time. Network play on the other hand will come much sooner and support up to 4 players.

Right now, there are several bugs involving lost variables, but everything should be fully playable.

The way combat works: Each unit has a hit rate. This is the chance that the unit will successfully destroy another in combat. Attacking another unit, however, also gives the enemy a chance to hit you back. You could end up destroying yourself with landing a hit on your enemy, so plan your combat carefully!

Well I got the entire menu done, but I plan on redoing it and improving it to use it in an original rpg. I'm going for a cross between a sort of xenogear & chrono trigger styled battle system which I think will work well with some of the ffl2 elements. Sorry to disappoint you though. Maybe I'll work on it again some day.

Hmm, go ahead and count me out of this. I got a considerable amount done on the engine, but I really don't feel like finishing it. Got pretty boring pretty quickly :/

Coding / Re: Making the ai move backwards after it's hit
« on: July 11, 2008, 05:50:51 am »
Just so you know, the link is screwed up, you have to copy/paste it. I'm downloading the example now, I'll get back to you if I come up with something :]

EDIT: Actually, I can't seem to recreate the problem. I did find a small movement bug. If you move diagonally one way, and then move in the opposite direction the hero's sprite doesn't update and it looks like you're moonwalking. That's an easy fix though. I'll keep trying for the original problem.

EDITEDIT: Also there seems to be a random 0 in the top left corner of the map that changes colors along with the damage color. It seems to be counting down something whenever I shoot the beam thing. I don't know if that's supposed to be there or not

This looks a lot like an eclipse-esque mmo engine. Please tell me the combat is zelda-like and not just press ctrl to attack.
I wish the best of luck to you though. Creating and maintaining an mmo is extremely difficult.

It's all good :] I left it running overnight and got like 8000 views on the myspace. Not that views really count for much, but it'll freak the rest of my band out :] Maybe I'll try opening a standalone music player and see if it works. Didn't really experiment with because I downloaded it in the wee hours of the morning.

When I said works great with page views but not plays, I actually was referring to myspace music :]

You should add support for myspace music plays :] It works great with page view, but it doesn't seems to register plays. Still a great little program though. You never cease to amaze me  ;)

I've finally decided in Final Fantasy Legends II (gbc), still new school. The enemy AI is a bit less complicated than an action RPG, so I think I'll be able to get this one done on time :]

11
Blegh I didn't see the August 1st dead line. Can I just enter for a slot in the New School and not say what game I'm doing until I submit it, or do I have to let it be known right away? I definitely won't have time to do Final Fantasy Adventure the way I wanted to in less than a month.

12
Would I be allowed to remake Sweet Home (japanase nes horror/rpg) in English? I suppose I could justify that as new school and just throw in some other enchancements :]

Scratch that, I'll do Final Fantasy Adventure. That was pretty much my favorite gameboy game growing up, and kinda served as an intro to non-turnbased battle systems. Actually, I think I'll make some updates too. So new school I suppose.

Other Discussion / Re: Wanting to learn guitar..
« on: June 28, 2008, 03:12:51 am »
Eh, kinda disagree with what everyone else is saying. I started out on a !@#$% guitar, and I deeply regret it. You don't need to start on a gibson or anything, but at least a squire or an epiphone, or a half-decent acoustic if that's what you're looking for. I started on an ovation older than I am (amazing acoustic and I still play it), and a piece of crap strat knock-off. I really wish I had started on and upper end Ibanez or Schecter :/ This is just my opinion of course. You're experience will obviously differ from mine unless you plan on playing technical metal and prog rock :]

As far as actually learning to play, there are plenty of great videos on youtube as well as other sites. Books are also a great resource. In all honesty though you'll learn the most from other people. Not necessarily private lessons, just watch other people play. Watch your favorite artists and observe how they're different from you. Don't try to copy them, just try out what they do and see what you like best mix and match and come up with whatever feels right for you.

For what it's worth, I've been playing for a little over 7 years now and I wish someone had given me this kind of advice. If you can afford it, I would recommend finding a good teacher. It can be really tough to find good teachers though. I've had 3 different ones, all amazingly talented players, but 2 of them were absolutely dreadful teachers. Problem was that my first teacher was the really good one and I was too young to take him seriously :/

Entertainment / Re: hey any u guys got any pokemon...
« on: June 22, 2008, 06:15:19 am »
Well if you change you mind and want hacked ones I can make them no problem. With pokesave you can set every aspect of the pokemon to be as if if were obtained normally (place met, inital level, stats, exp, etc). I can understand if you don't want them though.
The first time I got all of the event only pkmn I  just edited my saves to give myself the items I needed to access the in game events and just captured them normally :] I can't really do this for others without a g6 or r4 though :/ I can only trade those.

Entertainment / Re: American Horror Movies Suck
« on: May 29, 2008, 06:27:10 pm »
No, new American horror movies suck. First like jackofalltrades says, we have Hitchcock. He made some truly amazing horror movies. Also, there were plenty of great horror films in the seventies like Black Christmas, Last House on the Left, and Wicker Man.
Actually America has kinda redeemed itself with some newer ones as well. The two most recent Stephen King adoptions were exceptionally good in my opinion (The Mist and 1408).

Honestly I don't think you can say there a specific region where the best horror movies come from though. Japan has some good ones, France has some of my personal favorites, and even Italy has some nice ones. Each has there own unique charms because of cultural differences, so I try and keep my collection of horror movies diverse. I'm a bit of a horror movie/b-movie addict >_<

Zelda Projects / Re: [Demo] Virtual Tabletop NEW v0.6 (5/17/08)
« on: May 17, 2008, 06:12:02 am »
I think this nice update is justification for both gravedigging and double-posting.
After a long break, then 2 straight day of coding, here is Virtual Tabletop v0.6! It's pretty much been reworked from the ground up. It very near completion, as the only thing I plan on adding now is online gameplay, although if you would like more features please let me know what you would like to see.

Most notably new to this version is the ability to save and load games (called setups) as well as a slightly updated Ivalice Tactics. I still haven't finished writing the rules yet, but you can probably come up with you own gameplay. Just load the Ivalice Tactics.vtt along with the Quickplay.setup (found in the same folder) for a ready to play game. Additional dice and counters may still be spawned of course. The window size can now also be edited through the .vtt file. For a full list of changes check the changelog.

Here is the download: Version 0.6
And some screenies :]

I completely agree :] It's the first DS RPG I've felt the desire to play through more than once. I found it extremely hard to put down my first run through.

LOL @ Regulus.

I looked at a few videos from this movie yesterday, after which I concluded that Christian Bale is badass. The film looks like a pretty basic action Sci-Fi film, but I kind of want to see it just because of the ridiculous and nonsensical action scenes, in one of which Christian Bale BEATS THE CRAP OUT OF ROUGHLY 5 ARMED GUYS AROUND HIM WITH THE HANDLES OF HIS GUNS. !@#$% win.

Hell yes he is :] He was freaking awesome in American Psycho. I've seen this one in blockbuster, but I never really get around to renting it. I'll try to pick it up next time.

Next the game is going to suggest sticking your finger down your throat.
Or the Wiimote. XD

People might get the wrong idea if nintendo tells girls to start sticking wiimotes in their mouths >_< just a thought :]
