Zelda NES in GM
« on: August 18, 2006, 05:44:03 pm »
I did this in 2 days a while ago, the map is not finished, but it works, I did this only to see if I can create that room to room change like in the original Zelda, never attempted to finish. But I opened it few days ago and worked on it
Controls:
Arrows:Move
Z:Sword
Enter:Start
Insert, Supr: Add or delete hearts
Start,end: Add or remove HP

The only enemes are an armos Statue and some octoroks in the start screen, I think the armos works better than the original one, you can??t kill the enemies yet

Done:
Sword engine (spin charge and sword beam done)
Armos Statue
red octorok
Raft.... (doodeeleedoodeedoo)
Ladder
Heart Engine
Room to Room engine
Almost finished map
some other small stuff

I don??t think you need any screens, as it looks exactly like the original, but in full screen, this is from the NES game:

Download here:

you need to wait a few seconds before downloading

Enjoy!

its good and all, but I think the movement is wrong, and you don't get a game over XD

The movement is not wrong, is just that I don??t like the NES movement, so I tried a more lttp like movement, and yes you can??t die yet :P

It looks good so far! I know things are missing or incomplete (rocks pass through you without doing damage, etc.) but then this is a work-in-progress. The room transitions work really well, but I do notice a longer pause before the room change as compared to the original (but this may be because of my slow computer.) Do you plan to finish this?

The demo was all good and such but it seems pointless to me to make it in the same style.

Blegh...

Why make it exactly like the original? Make an improved version! With better graphics and sound. ;)

Is not exactly the same, Link??s movement is better, the sword engine is better, the enemies should be smarter or with better movement, if someday I make dungeons for this, they should be harder (more puzzles, not like in the original where the hard part was only because of the overpowered enemies) and is much easier to work with this graphics, and they have a special retro feeling

Or what about - a Zelda-game with custom content? :o

It's nice and except for the movement it's pretty much like LoZ, but don't go for it. You're good at coding, the engine is pretty good, you got what it needs to make a real Zelda-game. Go for THAT.

Nice game. I like the spin attack that you made. I found a bug. Where the three red ockatrocks are, they bounce back when you hit them with the sword. If you keep bouncing them to a wall, they get stuck. Other than that, it was pretty kool. Also, why did u quit lttp3d? Did u release the source for it?

Glad he quit 3D ALttP.  ALttP would've most likely been ruined.  There's a lot of stuff that can't be done in 3D but in 2D...

Oh, and by the way... why would I need this?  I just use zeldaclassic.

Even though your skilled enough to make a game much better than this I think it will be the first zelda game finished that takes more than 20 minutes to beat.

How did you actually accomplish the room transition?  Is the entire map one room?
