Title: The Legend of Zelda: The Legendary Swords (Update 1/17/07)
Post by: Sparks the Echidna on December 01, 2006, 05:42:54 pm
The Legend of Zelda: The Legendary Swords
- Live the Legend -

Story:
Legend tells of two swords hidden deep within the vast lands of Hyrule. Together they hold the key to unlocking the land in which the golden power is located. One day a boy will awake as the chosen hero and rid the land of evil with the help of the golden power when it is needed most. In the depths of the land spreads a darkness. The time has come for the hero to awaken and go forth in search of the swords...

Features:
- Ally system in which you and your team of characters can fight along side one-another.
- New weapons and armor as well as various items to choose from
- 4+ Dungeons along with original bosses (as of now only 4 dungeons are planned, but I'll see how things go)
- New spells and sword techniques

Update (1/17/07):
- Added a story, features of the game, and most importantly a new(ish) engine test.

Newer Mockups:

It all looks realy good!!!!
All of the scrrenshots would suggest that you were making a OOT Remake, The first is the shop from oot, the second is koriki forest, and the third is the fairy path in death mountain.

Eh, sort of. The map is very similar to OoT, but with some major alterations. I'm using the main map layout such as locations of areas and such, but the inner areas are more or less changed.

Yeah, I'm still going to work the 3 hero idea into the game engine somehow. I just want to somehow improve upon it and make it easy to impliment. And as for being a beta tester, I wouldn't want to take that position away from you ;).

Please, please don't mix styles, MC and LTTP look horrible together! I prefer MC and would love to see another MC fangame but i would much prefer you just using LTTP sprites than mixing the two. Aside from that it looks quite nice so far. And, erm, all i can say for the demo is that I hope the mock-ups are more accurate in showing your current achievement for the game. n_n;;

FSA updated a lot of LTTP graphics and used a lot of filters to make everything fit better with MC style. And I didn't like the mix in FSA, either. LTTP uses over-simplified mostly-solid-dully-colored objects with thick lines to give a cartoon look, whereas MC uses specifically bright, light, often contrasting colors with a smooth look to give it an entirely differntly cartoony look. They're just way to different to work together.

Since when you decided what goes into a fangame O.o, I really like how they look. You should just change Link colours, but still with those MC colours it looks nice.

Co-op as in online play? Sorry, but that was a very long time ago back when I was planning on making this an online game. Unless you are talking about the ally system, that feature has been long gone.

The ally system will still exist. I just am in the process of redoing it to make it better. Not much will change, mostly just added things or improvements.

Sorry, the allies will only be controlled by the computer, or if you switch to them. It will be similar to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

I completely agree with you. I used to suck at tiling and such. Now I'm getting better, but I'm still looking for someone who is experienced to maybe help out with the tiling for the game. I have the overworld almost completed mapped out on paper. Now I just have to put it into the game.

Hey wasn't this called The two swords before ZFGN closed?
It used to be called the Sacred Sword, but the game merged with another game by Alex the Hedgehog called the Elemental Sword, making the game now known as the Legendary Swords, featuring both swords in the game.

i thought it was pretty solid at first.. but everything just seemed to fall apart.

first I needed the cncs232.dll that so many games need which is always annoying, started up the game first thing I noticed was how much I hated the music.. I really hate all the zelda remix midis they all sound bad, you should really just stick to the traditional midis
movement was okay, I don't really like the sprite recolour, sword was really bad, its only half the slash but since you did it for all angles I assume its on purpose though I have no idea why anyone would do this.
cutting bushes is a glitchy mess, hard to cut them, then sometimes you can just walk through them and they get cut, but they grow back way too fast so you can get stuck in there

needs a lot of work sorry

It's the newest release, but it is quite old. I realize there are tons of bugs that need to be fixed. I'm reworking everything from scratch, but using the way I did most of it as a guideline. The real game will have a lot better engine. As for the sprite recolor, it's just a placeholder until I decide on a final Link sprite. The reason why it only did half the sword slash is because it's the same Link sprite I've used since the first demo that my old partner Alex the Hedgehog used. For some reason he only included half the sword swinging animation and I didn't feel like recoloring the rest of the frames. It's all really just to get the idea of the gameplay. I'll release something along the lines of a demo as soon as I get the engine working better.

No, sorry. The ally system will work as if you have a team of npcs on your side. If I added a co-op option I would probably have to make it online and story modes aren't really made to be played that way, especially in Zelda.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but after you get the sword, you can cut bushes simply by running into them.

Haha. I'm glad you pointed that out. I didn't realize that. Thanks for letting me know. As of now I'm completely redoing the sword and items part of the engine. I believe I can do a lot better than what I did before. As for the movement, it will be the same concept, just less buggy.

Eh, I'm not really sure what you mean exactly. Like in Four Swords Adventures? If so, then no. You will be able to switch to your allies and play as them, but only one character at a time.

No problem. ;)

As for the movement, it's not really that bad. All you really need to do is make Link slower, as he's WAY too fast at the moment.
