Hello I`m Nico, I`m 20 years old and live in the netherlands.
I`ve always wanted to make my own zelda fan game but didn`t want to make it 2d. So i started looking for a good and "easy" game engine and i found blender, that has a game engine, an 3d editor and everything you need to make a 3d game . I started working with blender almost a year ago now.. I`m still learning alot about the engine. But I think i made enough progress to post it

I`ll first show you some screenshots of the game, and later some trailers off the gameplay (I already made some with fraps, but it slows the game down to 15 fps)

I can`t say I made everything myself but I put it all together for a game. Most of Link`s Animations were made by this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_atuiowe9U (this is not the game I`m making) .

I don`t have a story or dialogs yet, I`ve only worked on the character , did some mapping and made some objects and effects. If you like to help with this game (story, dialogs, animating, modeling, or cool ideas) send me a PM

Sorry my English is not perfect but I think you can understand it.
Please post your comments!

Edit:
gravity test video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzo32mBmf8k
heart plants video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLNvZ9UDSjA
bow, bomb test video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WXO5a6A1x8
The game is running much better without fraps recording so don`t look at the fps

I can happily say this. This is one of the best starting projects I've seen. Though my only regret is that the Link texture looks horrible. Apart from that

I am dumbfounded you are also using blender. I also tried making a 3-d zelda game using blender (GO BLENDER) but i didn't make it to far. If possible, i would love helping you make this game or...... nabbing your engine when your finished with it :D

PM me back what you think!

As awesome as this looks and you have been trying Blender, give Unity 3D a try.

http://www.unity3d.com

It's free and far better than Blender.
It supports Blender too.
(I also started out using Blender until I found better engines)

Give it a try, I'm using it in my 3D Zelda game :3

Yes I have thought about using a other engine but I spend to much time on this project to change engine. But maybe for a next project i`ll give unity a try, I`ve seen some videos and tutorials for unity looks pretty good.

I`m working on a small demo, scene changing and saving right now. the demo should be ready for download soon.

Hey, whatever works for you go for it :3

On a side note I recommend picking a style and staying with it.

Your Ocarina of Time model rips don't look good with high resolution level meshes.
Regardless I anticipate seeing more of this :3

The actual Link model won`t be low poly I just use the low poly to shorten the loading times but I appreciate your comments.

So basically you added about 1k of useless polys? good for you :P

No really don't do that, if you want high poly make it worth it have details instead of just slapping extra polys on the model.

Great work so far, but your bump maps are definitely exaggerated too much.

Also, you should share your OoT model rips. These are the first I've ever seen, and tons of people request them; including me.

oh yeah sure, no problem i`ll upload them asap what files do you want .3ds? .obj? .blend?I don`t have all the model i`m still ripping some of them..

I`m working on my game right now already did some basic AI for some enemies but not even close to finished, I`m implanting some new animations made by the same guy who made the rest of them(see first post) i`m really thankfull he did because i suck at animating. I`ll update soon I need to find good recording software first, fraps slows the game down.

Well, the model's rigged already, so rather than forcing people to go through the trouble of re-rigging it, throw up a .blend and, if Blender can export this, COLLADA.

I can export to collada but i`m not posting the rigged version right now, because it`s not done. When it is I`ll post the blend files from the whole game so other people can make there own game. For now i can post the models with textures, sorry for that. Is collada used by most people? I thought .3ds could be opened with most programs. what models do you need? and should I upload ripped maps too?

A.k. if you did not rip those models yourself or make them yourself, you should not be posting them. At least get his explicit permission first. That would be stealing. Also it would be appropriate to post the name of the guy who made them in your first post instead of linking to the Youtube video.

On a different note. I am looking forward to seeing some action footage of your project.

Well; there's a bit of a difference between ripping them and recreating them.

For example; if someone had ripped them and he was reposting them, it's irrelevant because it's Nintendo's property through and through. If someone made them from the ground up, or made a large edit to them, he should credit those people and get permission.

Same thing with sprites really; I don't get where a rip warrants credit. Customs should be credited to the editor and not claimed as one's own though.

It's ripped from OoT. It's no different than ripping sprites from ALttP.

Also, I found one ripped for Garrysmod posing; fully rigged, etc. If you want, I could convert it from Source's model format to Collada or something.

The only reason I talk of Collada so much is because it's a reliable format that preserves rigging, uv mapping, animation, texture information, geometry, and most aspects of the model. If you were to export in 3DS, you could say goodbye to animations and rigging.

I'm actually going to make my 3D Zelda game in Unity open-source once it's finished, no point in releasing an unfinished engine lol.

If there are people making 2D systems in Game Maker we may see far more 3D games if they were more open-source.

Some edits here abd there may be helpful but it should get people going somewhere.

Besides, Unity's Lerpz tutorial is a potential full-blown game if you get creative :3
I was able to get complex stuff started in no-time!
Hell, I'm not even a programmer either :3

Ok, i`m not going to post the model before i asked a admin if it`s ok. But this tutorial shows how to rip them (i think i can post this?) http://www.3dmm.com/showthread.php?t=11184 .Also I found a good site for zelda sounds http://noproblo.dayjo.org/ZeldaSounds/.

About the Link model it`s a ripped model the guy i got it from downlaoded it somewhere, so he did not make the model he animated it. And ofcourse I have his permission to use the animations, he`s even making some for my game. I don`t speak him that often so don`t know what name he wants the credit to that`s why I posted his youtube video. I`ll ask him next time, I also need to credit some other people for textures or scripts I`ll do that once the game is finished!

I`m still working out the bugs in the demo, and a demo map so demo will be here soon :) :P

Trust me when I say to create your own animations... it doesn't limit you :3

I create or rip my own assets, so it makes it easier to make my own stuff :3
