Email Addresses

I was thinking of setting up an email system for the site so that all users are automatically assigned an @zfgc.com email address. And whenever an email comes into your account it shows up like a PM in your inbox. Suggestions?

Why? Mostly everyone will already have an E-mail, and if not, there are much better options out there.
But then again, maybe someone would like it just to have an zfgc.com in their e-mail -_-

In essence, the feature would only truly be useful for staff members so that they would have an easy identification for those who needed to contact them.  Otherwise I would say that it should be made possible to send an e-mail from ZFGC to someone rather than having to compose it in something else - kind of like how the submission thing works on the site.

Isn't that what we have PM's for? If you get an PM, you would receive an E-mail from ZFGC about receiving a PM, and it would be the same. You wouldn't usually want to go through ZFGC to contact someone outside ZFGC.

Just a random idea really that I thought of during college. Theres no great point to it apart from having a more customized email address.

Basically just suggesting I create an email system for zfgc so people can have member@zfgc.com email addresses.

Might be a bad idea.. -- just in the aspect of spam. Could get the domain blacklisted and once you're blacklisted via email, you're essentially !@#$%.

Not a bad idea for staffers, and I've always liked the hosting idea, we'll have to bump up the space... -- or make a sub domain and point it to another box.. http://users.zfgc.com/~user/   or http://members.zfgc.com/~user/

Indeed. But given that you would need an account and possibly activation, its not likely the people will access are going to mass-spam?

I dont think regular members should get an e-mail account at ZFGC. They already have personal e-mails that they have used to register.

The e-mails should be for staff members, even though they have personal e-mails, what if they wanted to represent ZFGC? then a e-mail @ yahoo is not professional at all.

So, I think just for staff members.

Most semi-perma staff already have @zfgc.com emails. This was just an additional suggestion.

Nah, I don't think this would work too well. For staff, it seems fine, blah blah blah. ZFGC should have free hosting for members though or something, could get more people to come, I dunno.

Well, while I said that it should be just staff members, perhaps it could be expanded to prominent developers who work on their games here - seems like common sense, those who want to contact those developers would also wind up back.
