I'm the web designer for that site. The site is almost ready to go live and start attracting new visitors. What do you guys think about the look? Is everything easy to figure out? Something you want to see added?
-
My first reaction is the purple kinda hurts my eyes. Especially the letters. Sorry I have to say this, but I do not want to look at that site for a long period of time. You are better of using softer variations of the color. When I have the time I'll take a look at it in more detail.
-
I don't think it's bad, given they're colors pretty much directly taken from the Zerg :P It's incredibly fitting.
-
Looks pretty nice :)!

The Zerg are purple? huh? I just played 4 hours of SC2 and I...seriously didn't see purple 0_0..
But the purple text made me feel dyslexic.

Looks pretty purple. And green.
-
And pretty old...that screenshot is like 2 years old. XD
But the Zerg 'logo' is purple, so yeah. And the creep is.
Oh, the website looks really big. I have a 24 inch monitor and the font and everything is huge!

I've heard that before from the developer I work with, I'll see if softening it doesn't lose the style I want...

Yeah, I don't think it's bad either :P

Thank you :)

AFAIK the races each have two colors.
Zerg - Green Purple
Protoss - Blue Yellow/Gold
Terran - Red Gray/Silver
And I'll look into the text color.

? I use a 19 inch monitor at 1440x900, it doesn't look "huge". Whats your resolution? Mind taking a screenshot to see if its displaying incorrectly for you?
Another thing I forgot to ask all of you, what browser are you using, and do you see the side bar breaking and being shoved under the news posts?
-
i dont kow what, but i think it looks and feels like a darker ZFGC... all of the links and stuff are in the same place..

Yes I know. But that neon purple doesn't dominate the screen. In the sprites it is surrounded by softer shades of purple and other light colors, like the orange, white and grey. BUt on the site that neon purple seriously dominates the screen. It isn't surrounded by brighter colors like orange and white or softer shades of purple. It is placed on a rather dark background, which makes a wrong contrast with the letters.
The only time I could even look at the top was when it displayed a picture with yellow and orange colors. Nice feature btw, the random top images. Kudos for that.
1: Firefox, what I always used.
2: Internet Explorer, just as a test.
-
Thank you for the screens Niek. Seems like I need to take care of IE :|
I heard that it did the same in chrome and opera as well.

That's because we use the same system ZFGC uses. (SMF)
EDIT: If you look at the forum Niek, where the news fader is, there is the text "News". I desaturated the purple. Is that still too bright?
-
The text news is fine.
Oh yeah, my screen is 22'' and has a resolution of 1920x1080.
-
Ok then I'll change the text color to that desaturated one when I get home. Any other things to be looked at?

See attachment. The text just looks really big.
You can also test browser compatibility with this:

:/ The text seems to be fine in size to me... Anyone else think it should be smaller?
And about browsershots, they have horrible service. Whenever I use them I get blank shots (white page) because it takes a screenshot before the page is done loading :|
-
I don't mind the size at all. But there is a notable difference between the front page font size and the forum font size.
-
Well compare the size with this Starcraft website for example. It's a lot smaller and easier on the eyes in my opinion.

Not sure if it's my resolution (1280xwhatever) but I see post like things on the left, then what I guess should be on the right of that, aaaalll the way below those posts or whatever in the middle of the page I get your boxes for live streams, blizz tracker etc.
I do however get a horizontal scroll bar for the entire page that lets me scroll a tiny amount to the right.
Anyway, it's a mess so I suggest you take a look at how it looks on different resolutions (and browsers if you haven't)

Yeah, I know it messes up under different browsers. I'll figure out whats going on :)

Good eye, I never noticed that D:

That site isn't loading for me right now, but I'll make the font sizes on the site synonymous with the ones on the forum (smaller).

Okay, I made the text color changes, and I seriously doubt it looks better... this actually hurts my eyes more than before...

Looks great to me.

Made some changes, appreciate it if I can get some more feedback.

Just in case you don't know, still exact same problems as I said in my last post.

Yeah I know. Haven't had enough time to figure out what is causing that. I just changed the text color to make it easier on the eyes and made the text the same size as on the forum.
-
I like it.

I like it.
Yay! lol
-
Yep it's till too big. Anyone running a resolution of 1280x1024 or lower has to scroll to the right and the top bar fills up half the page.
Changing the text size won't matter. You will have to resize the whole <div> page settings.

Ah yes, I know, It's not a fluid layout. Once everything is set, and the design is finalized, I'll convert it into a fluid layout.
