Quote
The story of a low-rent super-villain, the hero who keeps beating him up, and the cute girl from the laundromat he's too shy to talk to.

Starring Neil Patrick Harris as Dr. Horrible, Nathan Fillion as Captain Hammer, Felicia Day as Penny, and a cast of dozens!

Directed by Joss Whedon

Written by Joss Whedon, Zack Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen and Jed Whedon

Okay. So I already wrote up this huge thing, but then Firefox screwed up and I lost it, so I'm going to make this (somewhat) brief.

What: A 3-part internet musical mini-series, roughly 40 minutes in length.

When: Each part will go up 2 days apart from each other, starting tomorrow July 15th, on the official website (posted up top). There they will be available for free streaming until midnight July 20th. So that's:

ACT ONE: Tuesday July 15th.

ACT TWO: Thursday July 17th.

ACT THREE: Saturday July 19th.

Some time after they are taken down, they will be available for download at some fee I don't know just yet. This was made with the money of the creative team, and whatever favours they could pull, during the writer's strike. They're trying to prove the internet's worth as a viable business model, and making money is a necessary part of that.

Later, a DVD will be released, with apparently huge amounts of special features. One of which is a musical commentary track (yeah, I crapped myself too). A soundtrack will also be released.

So I guess that's really all you need to know. If you want more information, you can go to the official website.

Entertainment / Beck - Modern Guilt
« on: July 13, 2008, 02:04:35 pm »
Has anybody got Beck's new (Danger Mouse produced) album Modern Guilt yet? It came out on July 8 and is crazy good. It's mellower than typical Beck, but not as soft as Sea Change was. There's also a lot of crazy electronic bits and sounds everywhere on the album. Definitely worth repeat listens.

You can listen to the album, in it's entirety, here:

It's on the right of the page if you scroll down a bit. I seriously recommend you listen to it.

Entertainment / Nine Inch Nails - The Slip
« on: May 07, 2008, 12:26:32 pm »
So Nine Inch Nails recently (I think it was yesterday, but I just found out today) released a new album for free on their website.

http://theslip.nin.com/

I'm listening to it right now (Track 8, Corona Radiata, just started), and I really like it. It's got quite a bit of hard, rapid drumming throughout most tracks, although a bit past half way it seems to have calmed down and gone with a kind of slower, ambient style. The album is also fairly short for a Nine Inch Nails release, at only 10 tracks (as opposed to the last one, Ghosts I-IV, which was 36 tracks, separated into four 9-track parts), and I reckon it's a stronger record than Year Zero or With Teeth.

I highly recommend downloading it if you like Nine Inch Nails at all. Actually, just download it, whether or not you've heard of or enjoyed the artist's previous releases. It's free, so what do you have to lose?

As a side note, track 9, The Four Of Us Are Dying, just started, and I love it.

Entertainment / Little-known bands that more people should listen to
« on: March 22, 2008, 07:35:25 am »
So there are a lot of fantastic, but little-known bands out there right? So I figure, let's put our communities heads together, and spread some indie love!

Just talk about and recommend some less-than-mainstream bands that you know, preferably with some kind of link to one or a few songs by them, like youtube videos or something.

One band I'd like people to be aware of:

Jump, Little Children

These guys are a really great folk-pop kind of band thing(?), who sadly broke up a few years ago, after releasing their 3rd (and in my opinion, best) album.

Albums:

Magazine (1998)

Vertigo (2001)

Between The Dim And The Dark (2004)

Close Your Eyes (From the album Magazine)

Go nuts, people.

So the new Foo Fighters album is out/almost out, and after listening to it 3 times, I can safely say that I really like it.

The stronger songs seem to be the softer ones, although the faster and rockier songs are all still great.

One particularly cool track is the instrumental "The Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners", a great acoustic piece which kind of dances and swirls around for 2 and a half minutes. I don't know how to describe it. >_>

So has anyone else heard the album? What did you think? If you haven't heard it, and would like to, you can stream the whole thing here:

Entertainment / New Linkin Park Single "What I've Done"

That's the way awesome video for "What I've Done", Linkin Park's new single.

The album "Minutes to Midnight" comes out on May 15 in the US, May 14 everywhere else.

I just felt like I should make this thread because I love LP and didn't see or make a thread when the album was announced. And I love this song and video.

Edit: Replaced old link with a working one, except this one's YouTube and not as good as Google Video, but whatever.

Edit 2: Replaced again.

QWERTY is apparantly the working title for the song, and I love it! I really hope it appears on the new album this year. ;D
